  1. I bet that obstruction makes it difficult for a lefty to access the slide release... For a righty (like me), This would be perfect... There is a similar product for the removable back-strap location on Sig-Pro pistols. If I had either of these pistols, I would get one. I'm a sucker for integrated technology

    fitz grips

My understanding is that they made western-style and checkered grips for S&W and Ruger revolvers, and are no longer in business. I have never seen a set in-person (that I'm aware of)
  3. I don't carry it when I'm out and about, but the Charter Undercover .38 which normally guards my night-stand goes in my pocket when I mow the lawn (for dogs & pests). I keep Remingtion 125gr SJHP +p ammo in it.
  4. Sounds like a weak/worn/damaged extractor and/or a rough/eroded chamber. Have you tried brass-cased ammo? I'd be interested to hear if it functioned just fine with that... Steel cased ammo will accentuate any chamber irregularities or extractor issues.
  5. Methinks that it was the act of fixing, in the case of the most recent generation, which caused many of these behavioral problems... Nowadays there's a new 'psychosis' or 'disorder' to label bad behavior with, for which there is a perscription of powerful drugs. I see a connection! Kids are brought up under the assumption that they are not responsible for their behavior... In fact, many times the worst of these are actually PITIED for the 'obvious' psychological stresses which cause them to act badly... it's senseless! This kind of pandering only serves to minimize the needs of children with REAL special-needs.
  6. I am outraged at how incredibly un-just it is for criminals to be allowed access to fully automatic weapons, while law-abiding citizens have to jump through hoops to even get 20 year-old machine-guns! Imagine if Cho had been such a hard-core criminal, with an MP-5 hot off the street, while the victims were legally defenseless! Who would the media blame then?
  7. I don't doubt that the website or Mr. Speir are a bit biased... but that still does not refute the facts which are represented in the article. Any make/model/individual firearm can fail... some are arguably more reliable than others. But, none are 'perfect' I am wary of any company which shows such arrogance in its advertisement of 'perfection', yet provides lacking support of such for its products... even in these somewhat remote instances. It should be noted, however, that the majority of failures pertaining to Glocks (even when they are possibly ammo-related), overwhelmingly occur in the .40s&w models. THAT is certainly a trend which would make me at least a bit hesitant to fully trust one of those specific models. The Glocks which were fully designed around a specific cartridge (such as the 9mm, .45gap, and 10mm) seem to do just fine... I would have no qualms about owning one, if they didn't feel like gripping a 2x4, that is.
  8. Does anyone make a semi-auto pistol which will fire .38 special? A .357 magnum Desert Eagle might be able to... it probably takes stout +p loadings to get it to cycle though.
  9. Don't forget that innate reflexes, visual acuity and overall physical & mental aptitude do play a role in how quickly some people learn... Proficiency is not proportional to the number of hours spent training... though it does reduce the relative time it would otherwise take to master a given action. I would much rather learn from someone who has actually had to use their skills to survive, than a person who has taken 1200hrs of classes, from people who have taken 1200hrs of classes... Even though the content is likely very similar between the two, the attitude and perspective of the instruction won't be.
  10. Black-Powder muzzle-loader kits are sold at wal-mart over-the-counter. No paperwork.
  11. Example of Glock 'perfection' Enjoy! http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/hhnj.html
  12. .38 special through a semi-auto??? Even if it were possible to feed the much longer rimmed case through the magazine (I'm pretty sure the cartridge is too long, even loaded with wadcutters), I don't believe that the .38special brass will retain structural integrity in a semi-auto (it must be supported fully during firing, such as in a revolver cylinder). Even if you got it to work, why? .38 special is not even as cheap to shoot as 9mm, and has much less power...

    SIG 556

I almost bought one of these, but recently ordered a Polish AK-74 instead... I'm sure the Sig is very accurate, the Sig 550 platform has always been noted as one of the most accurate intermediate rifles in the world. Congrats!
  14. Crimson-Trace makes a good product... I almost bought one of their models for the AR15 (neat setup, grip activation, laser mounts to the carry-handle). At ranges which I would need to defend myself, it is unlikely that I couldn't point-fire just as accuratly as I could with a laser... and if I've got enough time to take an aimed shot, I will use the sights. I think that a laser is an excellent tool, used properly under the necessary conditions... just remember that bright red beam works both ways! Just like a mounted light. Long-guns are more natural platforms for lasers, IMO. But, whatever works for the user is fine with me. On handguns especially, lasers are excellent training aids... Lets you see POA after a draw... without putting your finger on the trigger. I don't care for the Laser-max units, they're to dim, less natural to operate, and compromise the internal structure of the handgun itself (if it comes apart, your pistol is screwed). So, good choice on the CT! Let us know how you like it!
  15. I believe it... seen and done such things before, myself. I can't wait to get a 10mm 1911, to shoot flatter and take advantage of the inherent accuracy. That's surprising about the XD-45 though... Both the Service and Tactical XDs (not .45acp versions) that I've had could hold better'n'average groups at 50yd, and hit the rifle gongs without much trouble. I'll have to compare again now that it's warm and feel like venturing to an outdoor range.
  16. I owned a Springfield Mil-Spec for a long while... It was a great shooting gun, for what it was. IMHO much better than anythin else in it's price range (hard to even get a new Glock in the low $400s). Never had any issues with it until I had a gun-smith mess with it... even then it was just to sensetive to carry. It would feed SWC all day without a hitch. I'd get another one... and leave it stock.

  18. I totally agree with you that the folks who rely on their training to stay alive in a conflict are the ones who should have the last word on critiquing what works and what doesn't. That's why you don't see me climbing anyone's ass about technical mistakes seen in pictures... I'm not qualified to. However, since you are qualified to critique such things, I think that's perfectly appropriate and relevant. But, one doesn't have to be a combat vet to form a general opinion from what one does know, albeit limited. I just think that such things could be discussed with less hostility from both sides. That's all. I enjoy the pictures for their entertainment value... I think that doing that would be fun. But, would I use it? Probably not.
  19. The hostility may be legitimate, I agree, but I also think that there is no need to beat a dead horse... On the other hand, any professional should be willing to accept some degree of criticism based on their perception by potential customers. Again, Tungsten made a good point... let's not paint any organization with too broad of a brush. The issue of free advertising is an administrative issue, but then again, this is an open forum. I can easily choose what threads to view, and which ones to avoid... I'd rather not have someone else doing that for me.
  20. That is the saddest thing I have heard all week... Congratulations on the new and potential aquisitions, though!
  21. It's okay to pray for yourself... obviously this is something you want to happen to you. I'll be keeping you in mind, as well.
  22. Good point Tungsten. I have no problem looking at cool pictures... Plus, nowhere in these latest threads has this training been touted as the only way to go by Shay. I prefer a balanced input, we can all make our own decisions from there. Shay, regardless of where we agree and disagree, I respect your input. Especially most recently. Thanks,
  23. Speaking of the great JMB (may he rest in peace), A Browning or FN P35 High-Power is another EXCELLENT option to consider.
  24. Sig P225 Sig P239 Both good single-stack choices with a rock-solid background, excellent ergonomics, and low recoil. Obviously there are other options... but I would strongly recommend letting her try one or both of those.
