  1. This is exactly why I am unlisted. If they would have made my address public, both me and my employer would be jumping down their throat right now with a few rabid lawyers.
  2. Tungs... err.. Broadside, the regular P2000 is probably comparable in size to your wife's M&P compact, perhaps slightly larger. There was one in the suppressor case at On-Target last time I was there. The P2000SK is just a bit smaller than a Sub-Compact XD, definitely narrower though.
  3. Beautiful rifle! Congrats on owning a piece of history! <edit> I want a Garand myself... Someday...
  4. All that being said (not needing to reiterate my own thoughts, either), there is a place for lower cost basic handguns. That is the niche which Glocks, XDs, etc, seem to fill. To say that there are arguments for-or-against any particular platform may be a stronger term than I am looking for to describe the surrounding debate... Preference is probably a better way to put it. Notwithstanding the facts and perceptions for given designs, all I can really put forth, objectively, to summarize is: -Simple and instinctive operation promotes reliability (mechanically and functionally) -Simplicity without refinement inhibits precise operation -Refinement without simplicity requires user proficiency and conscious manipulation -Instinctive operation leaves the user vulnerable to flaws in their own instinct -Conscious operation requires training/practice -Loose tolerances promote reliability while sacrificing safety factor -Superior materials and refinement improve safety-factor given the same potential mechanical reliability This holds true of pretty much any device I can think of, including firearms.
  5. Might work in some limited circumstances, but the element of surprise also generally involves a slower reaction time (slower draw), when YOU are the one who is surprised. If it's summertime, and I'll be riding in a vehicle, there are many advantages to making my handgun as accessible to draw as possible, while keeping it dry and me comfortable. If somebody is so determined to do me harm that they ignore the fact that I am obviously armed... all the 'surprise' factor in the world won't change the fact that I will have to defend myself quickly. I'd rather have the ability to draw a bit more rapidly, instead of unpredictably escalating their rash course of action. Concealment, IMHO, is more a social issue... for when I know that I'll be in situations where other people will be in close proximity to me. Moreso a retention method.
  6. I'll be OCing when I come pick up my Tantal... they e-mailed saying that it would likely ship this week.
  7. Welcome Jay! May you never need to use the warranty...
  8. Welcome Mosheim! Glocks will eternally be the center of many debatable issues here... Just don't say we didn't warn you!
  9. I open-carried all day yesterday, across seven counties, stopped several times with no problems, as usual. Met GlocKingTN and his wife in Bolivar and we both open-carried during dinner before my wife and I picked up our new puppy.

    45 GAP

.45gap is just as viable a cartridge, compared to .45acp, as .40s&w is to 10mm... People simply tend to stick with what is familiar. .45gap is the answer to a question... the question was: "Well gooollee Gaston, do-ya' think we can make a double-stack .45 that doesn't require the shooter to have sasquatch hands?" Glock did it one way (new cartridge), Springfield did it another (efficient use of grip space). Even though the G21SF is a bit of an improvement, it still does not compare to the XD-45acp or the G37. Both the G21SF and G37 are (IMO) half @$$ed attempts to attain a particular goal... that goal being a smaller grip. Oh well. Some love 'em. I personally see the G38 and G39 being the proper use of this cartridge, since it was meant to enhance the compactness of a compact pistol. I loved shooting my 5" XD-45gap, but knew all along that a micro .45 cartridge didn't make much sense in a full-size pistol. I think that's the rub. If this cartridge was marketed in a compact, single-stack platform with decent ergonomics, there would be far more appreciation for it. As I said, I would love a Sig P239 chambered in GAP. Or, a G36-esque platform with a shortened (front-to-back) grip.
  11. I don't think that 1911s are the "cat's meow" either... but they are better in certain ways. The potential for firing a cartridge out-of-battery is a BIG issue, and undeniably a predominantly Glock problem.

    45 GAP

There have been some 2-dozen depts in the NE which have adopted the G37... I'm sure due to hefty discounts from Glock. We'll see I guess... I probably won't seek to own another pistol in this caliber, personally.
  13. My wife & I will be leaving Tullahoma around 8am, getting to Bolivar around noon. I'll just be bringing what I'm carrying, maybe an extra 50rd in case we have time to shoot... I'd love to meet anybody from the area while I'm there. Cheers

    45 GAP

Survive, yes... Flourish, probably not. I had one, a 5" XD-45 GAP. Great shooting pistol, hard to find ammo for. Ballistics-wise, if you can find ammo, it's right up there with std-pressure .45acp... The grip-size savings of the cartridge are pretty moot in most platforms, since only the Glock 21 frames are overly large compared to other double-stack .45acp pistols. I would love to have a Sig P239 in this caliber... it would be perfect for a compact single stack for small hands.
  15. Meeting is in a week and a half... I intend to come. I could make it a bit early to get a bite to eat, for sure. I was starving that whole meeting last time (thought there would be pizza there). Had to stop at Steak & Shake in the 'boro on the way home. Shoney's is fine with me. Here's a map of several resaurants close by A.P.P.S. Google Map
  16. A "minor" is one who is under 18, not one who is under 21. FTF sales of handguns to 18+ persons are not prohibited by this code. FTF sales of handguns to minors are prohibited. The 19y/o was correct.
  17. I open-carried on the patio of a Mexican restaurant last year... Never went inside, and paid at the table. I don't think many even noticed. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I wanted to see what would happen, and perhaps have the opportunity to educate. I guess I wasn't obvious enough, or something... Aren't too many places to get served outside around here, so the opportunity has not since arisen again. But, I never carry illegally.
  18. public education is true socialism in action. Intelligence re-distribution: The dumb kids learn how to work the system, meanwhile the smart kids are conditioned to not think for themselves. The ones who fall thru the cracks end up on the news (one way or another).
  19. Imagine if the RA or 'love-interest'/girlfriend had been armed... This wouldn't even be an issue right now.
  20. Desiring a permit would require the ability to think for themselves... At that point, I don't see such as being likely.

    Which AK?

My sister just bought her future fiancé a Century/Romanian WASR-10 on impulse, and brought it to me to 'check-it-out' and clean it up... My first ever opportunity to fully detail-strip a WASR has been eye-opening. it's got some of the roughest, dirtiest machine-work I've ever seen on an AK. The trigger-group is shoddy and looks thrown together, the gas-tube isn't symmetrical, nor does it fit well. The barrel looks like they were handling it with pliers instead of hands... The only part that looks to be in decent shape is the bolt-carrier, but even the bolt isn't in the best shape. There's dirt caked in the cosmoline deep in the receiver and gas-tube. The cleaning kit which came with it is rusted (can't even get it open). I'll be busy getting this thing cleaned up. Thankfully, the bore looks sharp... I'll suspend judgment until I get it cleaned and bore-snaked. The mag is new and the front sight isn't cocked, thank goodness. I wouldn't buy a WASR at all, now. I'll post some pics later...
  22. I plan to pick up a Polish Mak or CZ-82/83 in the next few months... 9x18 is still cheap... I want a CZ-52 as well.
  23. Well, in a sense it is... because of the design flaw of the Glock which allows the gun to fire when out-of-battery. The out of spec cartridge certainly contributed, but most pistols would not have allowed it to fire in the first place.
  24. Ah.... another .357sig shooter. Welcome Terry! Hope you enjoy the discussion here, looking forward to your input and questions. My deepest condolances to you for the loss of your father, many blessings as you carry on the family and the firearms.
  25. Lo1291, There is a TFA meeting coming up at A.P.P.S. on Tuesday the 15th of this month... John Harris of the TFA will be there, that would be an excellent time & place to integrate with some motivated people. http://www.tfaonline.org/memberforum/viewtopic.php?t=1141
