  1. I have decided to do a 9mm AR build. looking at a CMMG dedicated 9mm lower, but can I use a standard 5.56 style upper as I don't like the look of the shortened dust cover, it just looks cheap to me.
  2. Ahh ok my misunderstanding. Thats why you have to order the lower stripped and make sure the paper says Other or Pistol and not rifle.
  3. You cannot put 16"+ Barrel on a pistol once you have the lower is deemed a rifle receiver. If you put the pistol upper back on you have an unregistered SBR.
  4. I have been doing butt loads of research, and I think my next build is going to be a 9mm AR Pistol 10.5in barrel, and a SIG brace on the buffer tube...100% legal no NFA or ATF required as long as I don't put a forward grip, or rifle length upper on it.
  5. I have no intention of keeping a long arm in my truck. Some one had asked me and had heard conflicting details like I had. What Irks me Is I am legal to keep my handgun in my truck while I am on campus...But if the college found out they could expel me....so what good is the law.
  6. I have used the search feature without much luck.   I have looked through LexisNexis and just get confused.  I remember hearing that HCP holders can keepa long gun in their vehicle as long as there was no round in the chamber.   Recently people have been saying you can keep it fully loaded.  Can someone "more smarter" than me cite the actual law that clarifies my question.  The closest I have found is 39-17-1313 but it doesnt specificaly say long guns, and it only says transporting or storing, no whee is the word loaded in there.
  7. Was designing decals the other night to sell and I came up with this...

    Other hobby

Amateur (HAM) Radio...I also run a small business cutting custom vinyl decals.
  9. I used to be a dispatcher for Bristol TN....When we run your OLN ( your drivers license # ) it does tell us if you have a valid permit. We were supposed to inform the officer it as well as your history want warrants etc.
  10. +1 on the beophung or Wouxon uv3d  I am a licensed amateur radio operator and have the Wouxon UV3D and I love it....you can unlock it from the ham bands and program most Business service freqs into it. Was about 100 a few years back. I got mine from Powerworx.com
  11. Big knock on wood but I have carried and regularly fired my PT-145 since the day my permit came in the mail without any problems.
  12. Thanks tdo..... I coppied this into a text document so I can go back and read it from time to time.
  13. Got hired, wife texted me wile I was in class this afternoon...maybe the economy is getting a little better. Now a Corrections Officer for XXXXXX County.  Hapay Hapay Hapay.....doing the happy dance...its ugly you don't want to see it.
  14. Went to Mahoney's and tried Bates, Redback, Magnum, SWAT, and ultimately I like the Danner Acadia 8" the best, After I meet with HR and find out if I get a Uniform allowance I will find out if I have to pay the full $240 for them.
  15. Johnson City and Kingsport were hiring up to 14.00 an hour but they havent gotten back to me yet.
  16. Gonna run out to Mahoney's and try on the brands they carry, I know they carry Bates and Danners. Was watching some YouTube Videos earlier....I am not looking to getting pepper sprayed during training.
  17. no academy anymore?? Wow do they do like the regional jails and travel county to county teaching the TCI Basic course?
  18.   I thought about TDOC but  am sure my wife wouldnt appreciate me having to go to the academy 6hrs away for 6 weeks, the nearest state facility to me is Northeast Correctional which is a maximum security facility. I will be starting out in the $12 per hour range with health insurance and state retirement. But I do thank you for the offer.
  19. I took my psych test today and have a physical friday, so it looks as if I am being hired as a Corrections Officer for XXXXXX County. A regional jail with a roughly 600 inmate capacity, and all in a multi story building. I am a big guy that suffers from frequent foot pain. Can any LEO's ,Corrections, or security, give me some suggestions on black tactical boots preferably 6" or shorter, that can take the pounding of a 12 hr shift on concrete and stairs, all without leaving me crippled at the end of the day. I am also going to post this as a poll with some of the brands I am looking at.
  20. I typed this up for facebook the day they announced, just thought I would throw it out there.:   My wife just asked me what I thought of today’s decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow openly homosexual boys and still refuse adults. Short answer: I am torn my mind is not made up. Long answer: I myself am an Eagle Scout I started in the Tiger Cubs, then Cub Scouts, Weblows, Boy Scouts, and achieved Eagle in November of 1994. Though our Oath does include the words “Morally Straight”, we also follow a law: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. We have a slogan “Do a good turn daily” To not allow homosexuals child or adult is certainly not helpful, friendly, courteous, or kind to those individuals, nor is it doing a good turn. What of the boys who run the gauntlet and achieve the rank of Eagle and wish to continue as leaders? Is the BSA going to deny them, after proving themselves trustworthy, and loyal? The fear of homosexual adults being molesters, of being “turned on” by boys is also unfounded; the number of gay offenders is tiny compared to heterosexual offenders. However, now that homosexual youth will be allowed, I can speak from experience, that the bullying and discrimination from the other youth would be severe. Kids at that age can be ruthless. Some adults are not much better. Regardless of their preference, no child should have to face that ridicule. We may now see long time sponsors of troops pulling their support, these sponsors mostly churches would pull out for religious reasons. You will have parents and others saying that their kids might get hit on by gay kids, or may “catch” gay, ridiculous but true. What it boils down to is that Homosexuals are people to and deserve the same rights and opportunities as any one else, they are facing and fighting against fear discrimination, as well as an organization with deep religious and moral roots. I am indifferent to and respect everyone’s religion and sexual preference. I generally like everyone. But there are two distinct sides to this equation; each has its merits, and downfalls. Therefore, I’m torn between agreeing and disagreeing.
  21. I have a beat up 870 Wingmaster and a Remington foldover stock that is in rough shape. I want to blast them both but there are so many after market coatings, I want to hear from people with experiance. For now I am going to put an 18.5" barrel, a magpul forend on it, and hopefully one day SBS it once I get the money, So I want a durable coating that will last a long time. Also if i get a surplus barrel and cut it myself will these coatings stand up to barell tempratures.
  22. Well my wife and I are both college students,,,,,now we cant be arrested and expelled for keeping our guns in our vehicles, so it wasn't totally useless.
  23. The only thing I don't like is there are no employee protections. At most workplaces HCP holders just have a don't ask don't tell policy, but if you work someplace like Eastman where they check your vehicle at the guard shack you can be fired. They need to make a law that makes your vehicle an extention of your home, what ever you can legaly have in your home you can have in your vehicle, and no one has any say about it.
  24. Where can I find the text of the final bill as sent to the governor? Also when will it become law?
  25. I can't remember exactly where it was. Some PD was holding a gun buyback and local collectors held up signs outside the event paying fair price and the cops closed up shop!!!! Epic
