  1. My old Don Hume wore out so I ordered an Old Faithful Stage 3 kit from E-bay. I liked it enough to do a review vid http://youtu.be/Q8f_L5_r8Vo
  2. This whole topic would be moot if Ramsey hadn't stalled the vote on the vehicle carry bill. I live in his home district...one less vote.
  3. I usually wear my gun everywhere. If I go into a carry no no place I have a lock box in my truck. The only exception is when I am on campus for classes. cant even have it your car there. I attend NorthEastState and a month or so ago a teacher ratted out someone for having a gun in his car. Security locked his butt up and handed him over to Sullivan County. I make no secret that I have a carry permit. I can't wait until security wants to search my truck, and they open that safe and its empty. I'm just going to stand there and say "Now don't you feel stupid? "
  4. I know my opinion may not be popolar but....I think "he screwed the pooch" The dispatcher told him "We don't need you to do that" when he told them he was following Travon. By following Travon he initiated the confrontation. Though his shot may have been legitimate self defence, he started the fight. The stand your ground IMHO doesn't apply to Zimmerman. He did nothing more than give all gun owners a black eye.
  5. I have carried the same PT145 for 5-6 years now and have never had an issue. I prefer it over an expensive gun because it is just as reliable, but if I hver have to use it it was $345. I'd rather the cops scratch initials and it get beat up in an evidence room over one of my more expencive ones.
  6. I just couldn't imagine him drawing with the grip nearly in his armpit
  7. Wife and I were sitting at the snack bar at our local SAMS Club in Johnson City. I noticed this guy (stereotypical old guy) plain white T-shirt, Jeans Shorts, sneakers and socks up to his knees. On his belt along with his glasses case, his cell phone, was a massive polished SS or nickle, full length 1911 style handgun, in this antique looking owb holster. Now I carry openly from time to time but IWB and not so blatant. If the need arose there would be no way he would have been able to draw that "hogleg" out of that what appeared to be a home made holster that was half way up his ribcage because he was wearing his pants so high, in sufficient time to save his life. I wish I would have had a camera on me.
  8. I used to be a 911 Dispatcher when the officer runs your OLN license # it does tell us if you have a permit or not. Just running the plates does not. The dispatcher probably ran the registered owner automatically as soon as the officer called in the stop. That could be the case. But just asking if she was carrying out of the blue sounds odd.
  9. Where a helmet!!! Lots of people carrying slung rifles and shotguns not watching where the barrels are when they bend over or spin around. In short yep its packed.
  10. The sights on my PT145 are getting a bit dirty, dull, hard to see the front sight anymore. I always clean my gun every time I shoot it. But the sights just aren't coming clean anymore. Any suggestions on how to get them white again, hopefully without replacing them.
  11. Good Luck on the General... I havent bothered to take it because I cant afford a HF rig right now. 73s KJ4QCV Kingsport Amateur Radio Club W4TRC Repeater 146.970 tone123.0
  12. Believed to be an insurance burn as his communications business was in trouble...But that is just scuttlebutt
  13. An AR in Jersey!!!:hiding: Welcome...Move down here were you can shoot it:)
  14. I saw an article and a news spot on them. They cater mainly to police and security services. They offer HCP classes but I don't know if Joe Blow public will be allowed to use the range. The place didn't seem too appealing to me. The owner was interviewed on Ch5 and he seemed a bit full of himself Ex military..sniper...seal...leo...went on and on about it. "Anyone who shoots here including LEOs must surrender their weapons to me for inspection and training before shooting here..." I think I'll stick to shooting into the hill behind the house.
  15. I posted an article from the Baltimore Sun earlier titled "Off-Duty Officer Fatally Shoots Unarmed Marine" The post met the TOS and wasn't cop bashing. But is now gone, the cp isn't even showing I ever even posted it. I know I did because it had several comments already one of the comments was even from a Mod??? I was going to update it because the state is now considering charges. I have had threads pulled in the past, and from what I recall a mod usually sends me a note as to why. Whats up Guys?
  16. Parrot head I'm right around the corner...Wheres your restaurant?
  17. Due to budget cuts I lost my 911 job. So I am now working at a local hotel due to the lack of jobs around here. A couple of local hotels have been robbed recently, so I asked the owner if I could carry at work and showed him my hcp. To my surprise he said yes no problem....! I work mainly 2nd and 3rd shift so this is a relief to me.
  18. I edited it...who says I didn't mean nincompoop
  19. Just curious can the Guy in charge...( I refuse to call him the president) sign a treaty that locks the US into BS like this without congressional approval? EDITORIAL: The U.N. gun grabber - Washington Times American gun owners might not feel besieged, but they should. This week, the Obama administration announced its support for the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. This international agreement poses real risks for freedom both in the United States and around the world by making it more difficult - if not outright illegal - for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. The U.N. claims that guns used in armed conflicts cause 300,000 deaths worldwide every year, an inordinate number of which are the result of internal civil strife within individual nations. The solution proposed by transnationalists to keep rebels from getting guns is to make the global pool of weapons smaller through government action. According to recent deliberations regarding the treaty, signatory countries would be required to "prevent, combat and eradicate" various classes of guns to undermine "the illicit trade in small arms." Such a plan would necessarily lead to confiscation of personal firearms. This may seem like a reasonable solution to governments that don't trust their citizens, but it represents a dangerous disregard for the safety and freedom of everybody. First of all, not all insurgencies are bad. As U.S. history shows, one way to get rid of a despotic regime is to rise up against it. That threat is why authoritarian regimes such as Syria, Cuba, Rwanda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone endorse gun control. Political scientist Rudy Rummel estimates that the 15 worst regimes during the 20th century killed 151 million of their own citizens, which works out to 1.5 million victims per year. Even if all 300,000 annual deaths from armed conflicts can be blamed on the small-arms trade (which they cannot), governments are a bigger threat to most people than their neighbors. This U.N. treaty will lead to more gun control in America. "After the treaty is approved and it comes into force, you will find out that it has this implication or that implication and it requires the Congress to adopt some measure that restricts ownership of firearms," former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John R. Bolton warns. "The [Obama] administration knows it cannot obtain this kind of legislation purely in a domestic context. ... They will use an international agreement as an excuse to get domestically what they couldn't otherwise." The U.N. Small Arms Treaty opens a back door for the Obama administration to force through gun control regulations. Threats to the Second Amendment are as real today as ever.
  20. Overall I like it great paint work. But I could live without the texturing, it just doesn't seem aesthetically pleasing to me, like it just doesn't belong.
  21. If you guys want to play with something neat try this http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ This is a SDR (Software Defined Radio) at an university in the Netherlands where you can listen on all bands... It' s neat to tinker with if you are into Amateur Radio.
  22. I like the guy who shot down the right turn lane right pass the cop and through the red light to go straight. I bet that cop needed a new ticket book when he was through.
  23. Maybe this is a dumb question, or maybe it's the side of me that like to see sh#$ blow up. But... An oil well is nothing more than a metal pipe shoved into a hole during the drilling process to keep it from collapsing. So heres my idea...Let the Navy have some target practice. The pressure wave from a Torpedo or a large demo charge should be sufficient enough to sever and collapse the well, stopping the flow. Or am I way out in left field somewhere? I just don't see the sense in waiting 8 days for a concrete and steel box to be transported out there. Screw saving the well 200,000+ gal a day people.
  24. As a Tech there is only a small portion of the 10meter band you can use so the 8900R may be a little bit overkill. The FT-7900 I agree would fit your needs nicely. Someone else mentioned cross-band repeat feature, the 7900 doesn't have this. With the cross-band repeat feature you could park on a hill, the radio in the vehicle would receive on the 2 meter band (144-148mhz) and retransmit on 70cm (420-450mhz), you could then receive and transmit via a 70cm hand-held. I imagine this would be useful while exploring and hiking away from the vehicle. for this would need the 8800R. Depending on your elevation and antenna 2m 70cm mobile radios can usually only do about 30 to 50 miles, less in low lying or mountainous areas. Sometimes more for instance I like to take trips to Mt Mitchell NC park on top of the mountain and I can hit several states if I can hit far off repeaters just right. On simplex (not using a repeater direct radio to radio) I can hit over 100 miles I have a FT-2800M in the truck as well as in the house. On the truck I have a Larsen 5/8th wave NMO Mount antenna. I live in the Tri-Cities near Bristol and I have no problem hitting all the repeaters in the Tri-Cities area. At home I have a homemade 2m copper J-pole with slightly better results. If you are mounting to a vehicle, hands down the best way to mount your antenna is a NMO mount, granted you have to drill a hole in the center of your roof, but it is superior to any other configuration with the best db gain. If this is going to be your "expedition vehicle" take a better portable antenna such as a foldable J-pole, or a 5/8 collinear and a length of coax with you in the event you need to get out over a greater distance. Now I am a tech and my knowledge of HF is limited but if you really want to reach out and touch some one that is the way to go. But it gets a bit more technical with antenna tuners etc. Oh and the $$$ involved. Hope I helped a little Chip 73s KJ4QCV
  25. I just sent this off to all the corporate e-mail addresses I could find at Cox Communications. Cox is not the hosting site but the ISP the owner of the IP addresses. To whom it may concern. This mail is being sent to all in your Public Policy and Internet directors. I am writing you due to the fact the hosting company involved will take no action. This is regarding 2 IP addresses owned by your company. The addresses are 70.184.229.62 and 70.184.229.63 these addresses were issued by a hosting company called Tsnetworking.com. This host is hosting two sites that are clearly a direct reversal of your companies diversity values. These sites are as follows: Westboro Baptist Church Home Page and Westboro Baptist Church Home Page. As you have probably heard in the news over the last few years. Westboro Baptist Church is a hate group that travel all over the country protesting at the funerals of fallen soldiers, police officers, and public officials. They disrupt the funerals by loudly protesting that these men and woman have died as a "punishment from God for being homosexual or having something to do with supporting the cause of homosexuality." They often provoke response from police, families, and bystanders, so they can sue in court for violating their first amendment right as well as their right to protest. This is how they fund their hate group. This is a very short explanation of their exploits please research them further. Last year a child advocacy group called Pervertedjustice.org was successful in the removal of hundreds of questionable websites by bypassing the hosting companies and going straight to the ISPs. I would hope your company has the integrity and good taste to remove these sites. Thank you
