  1. I like the new look, especially the effect the dark background has on posted pics. It really makes them "pop" out.
  2. The answer to this is a matter of personal opinion.
  3. Thank you for the links. It sounds like maybe they should be replaced just as a routine thing if nothing else. I would not doubt them being worn, as this thing has 1,000's of rounds thru it.
  4. That is what I was thinking. That, and like I was saying I am not going to do anything that cannot be undone. That is why I am going with the scout scope instead of drilling the receiver. It's just a whole lot cheaper than any regular deer rifle. I am finding that as I get older a scope becomes a lot more desirable, and there is no way I would drill my Winchester 94.
  5. Yes. That is exactly what I mean. Even after the trigger is pulled I still have to use the slide release. I am not very experienced with shotguns.
  6. Thank you. I will certainly do so. Yeah, I think i will have the kiddo help.
  7. Yes it did. Thank you. Looks like I have some shopping to do after Christmas. lol
  8. I tell you man you have done a fantastic job, in fact done exactly what I want to do. I want both of my girls to be able to take care of themselves, provide for themselves, and not feel like they NEED a man to do it for them. It will be a long road with my 4 year old, but I am so looking forward to it.
  9. I have a Mossberg 600 (basically a 500) that my mom recently gave me. She is terminal, and wants to make sure of where it goes while she can. Here it is with my Winchester. It's in what I call a business condition. The finish is marred in a lot of places from heavy use over the years by her and I. I love the thing. I have a bit of an issue. It appears in some of the videos that I have seen people are not using the slide release button to pump it while firing. Mine will not function at all unless I use the release button. I have taken mine apart to clean it, and nothing appears to be wrong. Does mine have a problem, or is this a design change with the newer 500's?
  10. I also do not find Obama to be ineffective. Not in the least. I believe, based on what he has done, that he and those in cahoots with him are actually attempting to destroy our country on purpose. I know how bad that sounds. I have never believed it out of any other president, even slick willy. Look at thinkgs like Obama-care, his proposed new programs, and his support of social programs that we cannot afford, the continued economic decline within the country, the decline of our world influence, and couple all of that with the gutting he is about to give to the military. I can come to no other logical opinion other than this is on purpose. It's enough to turn a sane, reasonable man into an End of the World wack-o.
  11. Man, that is a fantastic story. Very glad you posted it.
  12. Never tried making jerky. I think I will be using this thread very soon. I do have a couple of questions... What kind of shelf life can you expect from ground beef jerky dried in a dehydrator? Would this be extended by vacuum sealing it? Does oven dried jerky have a longer life? Does steak jerky have a longer life than ground beef jerky?
  13. Question on the 38... I am about to aquire a 38 from my great uncle. He got it from gander assuming it would be a good turtle .22 given the price tag. He was shocked when he later went for ammo and saw what a 7.6x54r was. lol Anyway I told him that I would give him what he spent on it and help him find a .22. I want to find out if there is anything special about the 38 in general because I plan on going with a modern stock, sling and a scout scope. Nothing that cannot be removed later, but I will not do it at all if it is a rare year or anything like that.

    Smokers?

I used to stuff my own tubes. I need to get back into it. Paying full price sucks.

    Outdoor Range

Yep. That is the one I go to all the time. Go up exit 16 and turn right in to Natchez trace State Park. Go all the way down until the road splits (at a house on the right) and follow the right fork. The firing range is about 1.5 miles down on the right. They have 50 and 100 rifle targets and a pistol range. No fee, just fill out a range card.
  16. Welcome to the area. I guess I can say that, as I am not too far from you. lol
  17. That was awesome. Thanks for posting it.
  18. Man, I live in the wrong section of Tennessee. Yall have way to much fun over there. All he had to say was "I am sorry. That was dumb. i was having a bad day and took it out on you." But no, gotta be a tool. Oh, and DOLOMITE FOR PRESIDENT!!!

    hi!

    Welcome to the forum.
  20. Finially had the first bit of trouble out of the Glenfield 60 at the range today. It jammed three times in 100 rounds. Got it home, stripped it down and found the recoil buffer split. Seems a failure common to the Marlin/Glenfield 60. Given that it is an 18 shot Glenfield the plastic block has gone for at least 28 years. LOL I am sure to have it running again soon.
  21. My plan for breakins is a combination of clearing and not clearing. Our bedroom door is open to the hall (most of the time LOL) and the baby's room is across the hall. I will clear the hall, hunker down and see what develops. If he/she/they are seen I will shoot to kill. I do not want to go thru the effort of detaining someone, having them get back out of jail and coming back for round 2. If I do not see them from the hall then they will simply get away with it. I have no Rambo delusions. I will be protecting my family, and not bad guy hunting.
  22. Yeah dude. Don't matter what the job is I hate to hear a man losing one.
  23. I saw a billboard in Jackson today. It said Saturday and Sunday, but I did not get the times.
  24. I would think a .410/.22 over and under like an old Savage. They were great for us as kids, and should be still today. I .410 slug is a bit better for deer than a .223. I don't know about yall but my shot placement was not the best in the world at that age, and I would hate for him to be out torturing deer with that 22 on steroids. I remember sitting in that stand, seeing nothing, and finally switching to the top barrel and snagging the squirrel I had been watching playing. Priceless memories.
