  1. Driving a car is not, and never has been a "right." It has always been a privilege. Keeping and bearing arms is my right. Now, I have no issue with taking a safety course, or even proving marksmanship, but I have a BIG problem paying money to do so. If the government wants me to prove my safety and ability then fine. But do not make me pay to take advantage of my 2a rights. It's like charging people to use free speech.
  2. I guess I see this a little differently. As far as I can tell the US Constitution says I have the right to keep and bear arms. When last I looked to bear something means to carry it. Therefore I feel that any "gun control" over law abiding citizens is unconstitutional. This INCLUDES the need for me to get an HCP to carry a weapon. I would like to see an "Empty Holster" day to protest the HCP laws, and the state of Tennessee charging me money to utilize my constitutional rights. Just my opinion.
  3. Glock? Life is too short to have such an ugly gun LOL. Seriously, I would get the XD. I do not own either, but have shot them, and the XD seems more refined than the Glock.
  4. I would think it would do more harm than good. Anytime these laws are "clarified" it seems to generally go against law abiding citizens being armed. On the other hand I see signs at my daughter's school saying Gun free drug free zone. The pic is a gun crossed with a hypo needle. I personally find this offensive that the two of them would be represented together.
  5. Yeah, I guess i need to find a couple of vintage ones if I am going to try them out fair and square. More than that I keep hoping to see another Mosin at the range shooting surplus ammo. I hear it kicks a good bit more than the Brown Bear I have. I need to try them out before springing for a full spam can or two.
  6. Given that this seems to have become the "Mosin Thread" LOL I have a question. Has anyone used stripper clips to load? If so, do you like them? I am thinking of pickling up some el-cheapos from Egay to try out.
  7. ^^^ That would be my suggestion. I don't think they all behave exactly the same with the bayo on or off. Most, but not all were used in combat, and some may have been sighted without bayos. I do not think we can have a hard rule for all Mosins. The few I have seen seem to have some individuality to them.
  8. Interesting, but outrageously expensive for a .22.
  9. This is incorrect. This is correct, except that's OBD II instead of OBD. Here is some very simple proof. This is a pic of my miles to empty right after filling up one day... It says I can drive 608 miles on this tank of gas. The car is a 2008 Chevy cobalt XFE. The EPA rating is 25 city, 36 hwy for a combined 29 mpg* Source: Fuel Economy of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt XFE This car has a 13 gallon tank. 29 avg mpg * 13 gallons = 377 miles. My MPG during this time (summer) figured from the pump was 51.1 mpg 51.1 my average pervious tank * 13 gallons= 664.3 Obviously the car is re figuring the miles to empty based on my recent driving habits. A lot of newer cars include this type of AI.
  10. It really is all in how you drive. I average 44.2 mpg combined city/hwy in a non-hybrid car EPA rated at 30 combined. This is pump verified, not just the display, and is on the 10% ethanol crap. I have done this with very slight modifications to the car. First of all the car is a 5 speed, which eliminates the power train loss in automatics. I have replaced the stock tires with Goodyear FuelMax tires running about 45 psi in the summer (The tires are rated at 50 psi cold, so it's safe). I also lowered the car about 2.5 inches to reduce the drag coefficient. I do not use any fuel additives, as they are already in the fuel and not needed. I also run name brand gas only. My wife was a dispatcher for a company called Petroleum Traders, and she said "yes, there is a big difference in brands, and it's not really the gas, but the additives they put in it." Oh, and car is a 2008 Chevy Cobalt XFE with 90,000 miles and never a problem. Yes, a Chevrolet, because if you actually look at the numbers they have been beating the "imports" in mpg for sometime now.
  11. ^^^ Yeah, but that is usable effective legislation that does not restrict the rights of you or me to lawfully own firearms. It would never pass.

    Ever eaten Dog?

Most Americans do not like the idea of eating a dog, and that is fine. But, we must realize that our western sensibilities are not shared by a lot of the other cultures of the world. The eating of dog by those other cultures is not right or wrong, just different. If you adopted a baby pig as a pet, raised that pig as a pet and loved that pig like a member of the family you would most likely never consider eating that pig. There is no difference. We in the western world tend to see animals as more than what they are, and there is nothing wrong with that, but we need to realize that those are only our opinions. Now, no one in this thread has talked about shooting anyone's family pet to eat it. There is no reason for anyone to be offended. If other cultures eating dogs profoundly offends you maybe you should reconsider how sensitive you are, and how tolerant you are of those other cultures.

    Ever eaten Dog?

I served in Korea in the 90's, and yes, I ate the doggie. The most popular "dog-dish" there is pronounced Kay-gogi or Ka-gogi depending on the region. I found it to be pretty good on two occasions and nasty on the third occasion. It's like a lot of things, depends on how it's made.
  14. Hmmm.... Never thought about doing this. Mine goes bang really good, but I have not checked it.
  15. Awesome. There is, or at least was, one around here that was Army Surplus and Tanning.
  16. Great price, but gotta wait for the $$$. Took it to the range today, and it ran great. I only had 7 rounds, so no heat, but it functioned very smoothly. Oh, and I found out today that if you replace the stock on a Mossberg 12 gauge with a pistol grip it kicks pretty good. lol
  17. Yeah, I took it all out of the actual rifle, I just left it on the stock. I figure no reason I have to take it off the stock, and the current condition looks great.
  18. My wife would rather stop shooting than clean one, so I do it. I got no problem with that, as guns are more my thing. She just participates for the time spent together.
  19. Well, like the title said I finally got a Mosin today. I bought it from my great uncle for the $120.00 (with tax and background) he had in it. I was told it was a 38, but it is really a 1942. I took it out in his backyard and fired it twice to make sure it worked. I was expecting some recoil, but really it had virtually none. That might have been due to the 174 grain Bear ammo. She might kick up a little with Milsurp. IDK, but now it kicks a lot less than my 30-30. the number on the bolt matches the receiver, so that is awesome. The number on the bayonet does not match, but I am not sure it is supposed to. The stock on it is pretty nice, but if I get the cosmoline out it I might find out it's not, so I am not going to do it. LOL. I did clean the mess out of the action and barrel though. Here are some pics.
  20. Nice. I did not know they did any work there. That is where I bought my Beretta.
  21. One suggestion. There is a link a the top for new posts. It would be nice to have one at the bottom too. Maybe above the Previous Thread/Next Thread buttons?
