  1. I am not condoning anyone's opinions or choices here, but I think (if I understand the law), that the gun must be unloaded and ammo must be separate in the vehicle. Basically, same as if you did not have HCP. Loaded gun in the glovebox is a No-No (I think) Interesting add-on question, what if your loaded piece is in the glovebox and someone else is driving you home? just food for thought. . .
  2. probably can find much more detail and info over at XDTalk. to provide better insight, we could use some more info from you. I have an XD9 Service with about 600~700 rounds through it. Only 2 FTejects. that happened during the first 200 rounds and due to my limp-wristing. I never use reloads, but from what I have read, that would probably be the first source for the failure. Could be any number of other things?
  3. +1 EMP. . .300 rounds through mine so far. . .100% reliable. Accurate as hell. From what I have heard. . .and even my LGS agrees. . .Kimbers are either hot or cold. Springers run hot more often than not, IMO.
  4. just saw this in Knox News Police: Vendor shoots himself in the hand at Knoxville gun show » Knoxville News Sentinel
  5. So I did a full disassembly of a 1911 slide today to inspect the firing pin and extractor etc.. I tried to run a patch through each of those channels, and found it to be too tight using my standard rod/jag tip that I use to clean the barrel. Do I need a special tip to clean those two channels? or just a smaller jag/tip? or other special tools? any advice before I do a complete disassembly of my XD and EMP.
  6. marked on the calendar. ..will try very hard to attend. . . .send directions and other details out later.
  7. Welcome fellow Knoxville brother
  8. HEADLINE: NEWS FLASH. . .the cops got off, no charges as per "The Oak Ridger" just printed. . . http://www.oakridger.com/newsnow/x364054435/Oak-Ridge-officers-cleared-in-road-rage-incident
  9. Looking for OWB holster recommendations for 9mm EMP. Either leather, plastic or other.
  10. +1 interest. . .might be able to talk the wife into it as well. Keep me updated on time/place. I currently live in Knox co, so not too long of a drive.

    Anyone have a EMP?

got one, had it for about a month, shott about 300 through it. 9mm version. LOVE IT! if you get up around Knoxville, I would be willing to let you take mine for a test drive. it is pricey though. . .~$1000. . .but I think pretty well worth it so far.
  12. Got a buddy coming into town and want to take him shooting. It would be his first time. going to a range that has a large assortment of rentals. what would be your suggestions for easiest pistols for him to shoot. . .Ruger, Sig, S&W, Springfield, Glock, Beretta, other. . .
  13. not sure what the delay is at the outpost, they said back in OCT that within 2-4 weeks they would be all approved and would have guns.

    1911 Noob Question

call Springfield Customer Service. . .they are the best. . .they will give you whatever info you need and if you need a part, they will probably send you one.
  15. Don't think they tried to maliciously deceive you, but sounds like you didn't do your homework.
  16. Welcome brother from K-Town. +1 on the XDm
  17. my XD9 Service had 2 FTE's within the first 200 rounds. it was absolutlely 100% my fault. since then, I have worked on my grip and technique and had 100% reliability out of my gun. also, I have been dealing with CCA for over a year now and had all good things to say. I am a range member and just recently purchased a firearm through them. wife and I shoot there frequently. they definitely have the best selection of rentals compared to anybody else within 30 miles. also, I would be willing to meet you guys there to let you and your wife shoot a clean XD. Also, mine is still pretty new. Only 600 rounds through it. Let me know.
  18. So, I have both an XD9 and EMP 9. When shooting the XD, I have no problems focusing on the front sight only, since the rear sight gap is 3.8mm. Still using factory stock sights for daylight shooting. When shooting in daylight conditions with the EMP, I can still focus on the front sight, but it is a little more difficult, since the rear sight gap is 3.2mm and shorter barrel. but, in dark conditions using the Trijicon night sites that were factory installed on the EMP, I have a hell of a time focusing only on the front sight. any suggestions?
  19. nice post, please tell me how you embedded pics within your post; i would like to do the same.
  20. So, my father-in-law pulled out 4 pistols he has had in his closet for the past 20 or so years. All were stored in leather holsters and apparently were cleaned and lubed before putting up. They are bone dry now, but still can be racked and load a round without problem. Triggers operate just fine. I would like to take them to the range to see how they perform, but not sure what I should do to them first. All the internals look good, barrels are clean and nice. Some minor exterior surface corrosion, but no big deal to me. No serious rust spots on any critical areas. They are a S&W 38 revolver with a 5" barrel (not sure the actual model). Father in law says he took this one with him to Vietnam and brought it home. Colt 1911 A1 (.45). Govt issue for his time in Vietnam. Star Lancer .22 small little plinker. HK series. 1940 WWII German Luger--don't plan on shooting this one. How should I proceed? (Normally, I clean my pistols with Hoppes #9 and apply some light oil).
  21. Is there always a learning curve with triggers on new guns? I thought once I had the fundamentals, I could transfer that to any new pistol and be accurate right out of the gate. Well, not for me. I have really learned the Springfield XD trigger and got a new EMP recently and at my first range trip, I shot it like crap. my accuracy was terrible. What do I need to do (other than shoot 10,000_+ rounds) to be able to pick up any gun and shoot it accurately?
  22. Holy Crap!. My family frequents West Town Mall. This scares me to death. I usually do enter through one of the Dept. Stores, and don't notice any signs there; so I will continue to carry. Makes me scared for my wife though. Unfortunatley, I think this lady is the "exception" rather than the rule.. .how many other wives/girlfriends would have enough situational awareness to fight off the attacker like this. I mean 2-3 seconds he could have had her in the van with the door closed and then . . .lights out! Again, Holy Crap!
  23. How often does a new pistol need adjustments of the sights? I currently own a Springfield XD9, Springfield EMP 9 and Bersa Thunder 380. All of which I consider I am still learning the particulars of each gun and their respective triggers. They are fairly accurate, even though I am still not totally blowing out the bullseye when I go to the range. I am a member of a few forums and read a lot online about people that "claim" their new pistol is not hitting where they aim it and they send it back for warranty work. How often is this truly the case that it is the pistol vs. just the shooter? How many rounds and how many different people should shoot the gun before determining it is truly a gun problem?
  24. I just purchased mine last FRI and have run about 150 rounds through it. +1 for what "krunchnik" said. basically it is a 1911-style pistol specifically engineered and designed for the shorter 9mm round; it is not just a 1911 chambered in 9mm. as far as shooting it, you really can't notice any difference. it is a very short crisp trigger pull, basically the same as most 1911s. many people have this pistol as their EDC. since it is 1911-style, it has external thumb safety and is a SA pistol. therefore you would carry "condition 1" (aka cocked and locked)
  25. So, I did pick up my new Springfield EMP 9mm last FRI. Immediately went into the range and ran 150 rounds through it. 100% reliable. Recoil is easily manageable. It is a sweet little shooter, I wish I could say the same for myself. Out of the box, I was shooting low and low/left, just like I used to do with my XD. I guess I need to re-learn this short action 1911 style trigger. But even though I was off Point of Aim, groupings were pretty good. All at 7 yards. Brought it home and gave it a light cleaning. This was my first experience with field stripping a 1911 pistol and IMO it is kind of a Pain. I read the manual and watched some online videos so I knew what had to be done. First, I tried to strip it without the takedown-tool. Got the slide stop out and the slide came off the fram easily. Took out the recoil spring assembly, no problem, but really struggled getting the spring plug out of the slide. In all the videos it slips out real easy. In mine, I fussed with it for a while before finally pushing it out from the muzzle side the end of a plastic toothbrush. Next the barrel came right out. Gave it a quick wipedown with some Hoppes#9, a light oil and began re-assembly. Putting barrel and spring plug, and spring back in was no problem. Got the slide stop aligned with the hole and pushed it in. Again had some difficulty getting the slide stop to completely seat all the way. Fussed with that for a while as well. Finally got the knack of it. Stripped it again using the take down tool to see if that made getting the spring plug out any easier. . .NOPE. Still had to push it out, even though I thought this little tool was supposed to do that for you. Overall, form and finish of gun is excellent. The weight per spec is the same as my XD9 (Service), but this EMP feels heavier and much more solid. Looking forward to racking up the round count through this little beast. Just now as I get to the end of this post, I see in my permissions that I cannot post attachments. I will try to fix that and post some pics.
