  1. you might find part of your answer here. recently discussed topic on XDTalk. OP in this thread is from SC though. http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ccw-talk/203972-north-carolina-car-carry.html
  2. don't think I'm ready for a classifier yet. need a few more matches under my belt.
  3. agree, that would be cool for next time. now, at least, i will know a few more faces (with names) for next time.
  4. yep, group 7. I was with the XD. Thanks for the compliments. I really enjoyed it. I defintiely will return.
  5. finished my first IDPA. it was great! thanks for the advice from you guys. Had no issues with the Serpa. I am pretty sure I will be back.
  6. make sure you "try before you buy" if at all possible. . .that should also help with the decision oh yeah, 9mm
  7. Will there still be an IDPA match at ORSA this weekend? I pre-registered yesterday and have not gotten any feedback. Not sure if I should have gotten any response or not. but, one question, can I use a Blackhawk Serpa holster with the paddle mount config?
  8. my HCP class had (basically) this same example. Two men, in your home, middle of the night, backs to you. With backs to you, you cannot determine whether or not they have weapons in their hands or in front of them (like in a front pocket or waistband), therefore, we were taught that it is OK to shoot in this situation. You can presume they are there illegally with intentions to cause bodily harm. Also, castle doctrine comes into play in this case. Ultimately, pulling the trigger is your decision, but like others have said, no duty to retreat, no duty to identify.
  9. probably a little premature until all the facts are out and the final verdict is raised. if he is found to be the aggressor, that school will look pretty stupid celebrating this young man! duh!
  10. I just read the article and I also applaud the clerk. Hopefully he can prove he was in "imminent fear for his life" and therefore justify deadly force. I would hate to see him tried for a crime.
  11. After talking to a buddy of mine the other day who had an incident while carrying (concealed), it made me think. If you are out and about and carrying (concealed), who has the right to ask you if you are carrying? Let's say part of your gun or holster is briefly exposed OR if you are printing. For example, store owners, other citizens, law enforcement, rent-a-cops, etc. . . . And, who are you obligated to respond to?
  12. obviously, only open to Glock shooters. would to be nice have one open to the other major brands (Springfield, S&W, Ruger, Beretta, Sig) I currently don't own a Glock, so i will miss out.
  13. flashbacks. . .I remember that part too. As the citizen you should shoot first, ask questions later. . . ha
  14. Agree from what I remember from my HCP class. . . ."your life or someone elses". also, to my understanding, no real requirement to order the bad guy to "drop the knife", but probably a good CYA for the gun owner.
  15. I would shoot it some more. Run a couple hundred rounds through it. . .break it in a little bit. also, gives you more time to learn the trigger, get comfortable with it. make sure it is cleaned and well -lubed for this initial break in. after 200~300 rounds, if still same result, then send it back.
  16. Most knife blades are either cold rolled carbon steel (like 1075/1095) or some 400-series grade of stainless steel. the carbon steel can be heat treated to a very high (Rockwell) hardness and therefore make it very tough, strong and hold a good edge. The stainless is used in a lot of kitchen knives and surgical devices; obviously for more corrosiion resistance, but also easy to sharpen.
  17. thanks a bunch to Dub. It was a blast! definitely want to do it again. nice to meet you guys!. Look forward to talking to you more in the future and . . .of course. . .shooting with you again.
  18. pouring down rain at my place now at 9 am. I live only about 15-20 minutes fronm the location. is this thing still on, no matter what? thoughts???
  19. went to a Great American show they had in Clinton, TN (basically Knoxville) last fall at the Natl Guard Armory. very disappointed as compared to the much larger RK Shows.
  20. Just watched your video. . WOW. Cool. was reading on another forum that shooting IDPA is great "real-world" practice. Maybe even better than an actual 1-time class for "defensive" handgun use. Shooting at the range is fun, but I am ready to go to the next level of practice/training. I am looking to take a more "real-world" type class, but maybe I need to look into this IDPA. Can you tell me more about it? I see you shot this match up in Oak Ridge. What is the cost? How do you sign up? Any info about this would be helpful. Thanks.
  21. thanks for the updates. will definitely move this event on my calendar. will definitely try to make it.
  22. Anyone taken any of the classes offered at either of these two places; besides the standard TN HCP course. I have my permit, but looking to take some more advanced tactical, self defense, combat shooting courses. Not really interested in competitive marksmanship shooting, more looking for real world skills. Can't really afford to go (far) away for 2-4 tactical class, looking for something kinda local. looking for any feedback on either of these places, instructors, courses, etc. . .
  23. +1 Springfield. . .excellent quality, great customer service, outstanding shooting firearm
