  1. Good points from all. . .you could barrel change your XDm down to 9mm. CZ 75 is a great shooter, not sure of the SP-01, but CZ 75B is a outstanding pistol. don't think you would be bad off with either option.
  2. pretty good timing on getting the permit. Mine took 3 1/2 weeks, which I thought was pretty quick also. at least, while in IL, you will have something to look forward to when you return. . .HCP
  3. Join the Bersachat forum and ask for advice there. I am a member. Or go to the Bersachapterhouse. another good online resource that has fully detailed exploded view of this gun, showing each part. Might help with disassembly.
  4. any particular reason you want to take your HCP class there? there are many other facilities that offer the class?
  5. I've gone to a few RK Gun shows here in Knoxville over the last few years. Made my first purchase from one last year. I was really surprised to see when I made my purchase there was really no haggling on price. Now, granted, I did purchase a New In Box Springfield XD9, but still, I thought there would be a little negotiation. I got a good deal at the time, but even after my purchase was complete, I wanted to pick up a $5 small can of pepper spray for my wife, and even after spending $400+ on the gun, I still had to pay the $5 for that. Not quite what I expected? Can anyone fill me in?
  6. in this case, I would hope so. You are entering your castle, you have the right to protect it and defend yourself.
  7. Exactly, I had this actually happen a few years ago (minus the gun part). I awoke at 4am to the sounds of someone rummaging through my car. My bedroom window was open and overlooking the driveway. I looked out and saw two teenage male subjects searching through my car. I awoke my wife and quickly ran downstairs and out into the driveway. They promptly headed toward their vehicle, but were not too scared of me or getting caught. Me and one of the subjects actually had about a 20 second "stand-off" where we weren't moving, just staring at each other. He then got in the car and sped away with lights out. He had blacked out his license plate number. So, my main question was, if faced with this situation again, could I try to detain them using the handgun as "leverage"? I guess, if the cops cames and they were detained, I could be charged with AGG ASSault, but the kids could also be charged with "whatever" I don't want to violate the law, but I also don't want to be violated. What could I do?
  8. Thanks, that clears it up. . .somewhat. So pointing the gun at the person is considered "deadly force", but what about just brandishing it/showing it in holster, drawing it and not pointing it at the subject. Getting really into the "grey" area now, I guess?
  9. So the instructor did not really answer this clearly in my HCP class. If you witness someone committing a crime on your property (breaking into or vandalizing a car, shed, other) is it legal to use your handgun (drawn and pointed at the subject) to try to detain them while waiting for the police? Obviously, if they run, I cannot shoot them in the back and if they charge me I can shoot them, but what about my case?
  10. All the brands listed here are good affordable entry level 1911's.

  13. My wife carries in her purse, but I will be slowly persuading her to carry on her person. Hell, I got her over the first obstacle of carrying at all.
  14. We waited at DMV about an hour. The fingerprinting was easy. Only took about 3 1/2 weeks to get the actual permit. I was very happy!
  15. Hi, new member to TGO forum from Knoxville. Got turned on to this forum from Lagerhead. I am a member of XDTalk forum and Bersachat. I own a Springfield XD9 and Bersa Thunder 380. Both wife and I have our HCPs and we carry. I usually shoot at Coal Creek, just because it is close to my work. I browsed the forum the other day and found a ton of great info about carrying in TN. I plan on reading up more and more just to make sure I am completely familiar with all the laws. Looking forward to being a member of this group. Always looking for new friends to go "plink" with.
