  1. I think you are on to something here. More and more families are considering some form of home schooling or online instruction. The issues that we learned during COVID is the difficulty of getting children (especially littles) to engage/pay attention online and some parents were just not cut out to be "teachers at home." Still, if we were to have this discussion a year from now, I'll wager that some type of "hybrid" educational models will emerge.
  2. Also applies to tornado watches:
  3. Only the bears know what really happened . . .
  4. Good point . . . as we used to say in East Tennessee, "he's nekkid" How bout this for an oldie: "Don't look, Ethel!"
  5. That.is.impressive!
  6. Start your training now:
  7. For those that have the time and interest, this is the best review of the need for mental health institutions. It is entitled, "Bring Back Asylums . . . but Better." About 35 minutes, but it is very well done.
  8. Lots of comments about why we have a lack of mental hospitals. I used to teach a grad school course on the history of mental health, but I won't bore with a lecture . But here are two websites that give good background: https://www.kqed.org/news/11209729/did-the-emptying-of-mental-hospitals-contribute-to-homelessness-here - a 2016 review from KQED that gives an excellent historical background. It cites the invention of chlorpromazine (Thorazine) as the first antipsychotic that, at the time, thought medication could eliminate the need for mental hospitals. Sadly, it was not so. The corresponding history is a jumble of state/federal money that shifts mental health care to the community. AMA Journal of Ethics - really good perspective - https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/deinstitutionalization-people-mental-illness-causes-and-consequences/2013-10#:~:text=Three forces drove the movement,to save money [8].
  9. How tragic . . . prayers for all involved
  10. Thanks for the info. I used to live a few miles from Mayodan years ago.
  11. I love it, but it is pricey . . . Why does it say Mayodan, NC on it? Did Ruger buy the old Remington site in NC?
  12. Maybe so; I've heard nothing but what I've heard in the news. I've eaten my words in the past when they have been wrong and would be prepared to do so again if I am.
  13. At least in Tennessee our children are safe from drag queens and certain banned books.
  14. At a press conference Monday afternoon, MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron confirmed that the shooter was a young woman armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun who gained entrance through a side door
