Makes a Difference Where You Defend Yourself
billyscott replied to oldogy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The way I look at it, it's time for the bad guys to realize that home invasion is a "crime", not a way to make a living. When they break into someone's home there's a chance the homeowner may be killed or injured. If the homeowner is armed, there's a chance the invader will be killed. How long do you wait? Until the bad guy gets your door kicked open and draws his weapon? Or stop it as soon as soon as he gains acces to your home? -
Dennis1209, you are very right. If you look at Murfreesboro, the high crime areas are right around the section 8 housing. The government can't give anything to anybody unless they first take it from somebody else. And they have bred a whole culture of people who think it is their right to steal from anybody who has something. It's just like a job to them. If they get caught, pay a lawyer, pay court costs, get probation, and go out and do it again.

Not putting PD or Sherrif's office down, but they can't always be there when you need them. There's not a cop on every street corner. They respond as quickly as they can but if it takes them ten minutes to respond to the report of a crime, well a lot can happen in ten minutes. Thankfully, I have no reason to ever be in the state of Massachusetts. Thank you Lord. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God!

Yep, you done good Airborne.

I read today that in New York City, felony gun charges have been dropped against Tea Party Patriots co-founder Mark Meckler, who agreed on Thursday to plead guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct and pay a fine. They are goning to keep his gun. They do that in Tennessee too even if charges are dismissed in court. Now what about the former Marine and the Nurse from Tennessee?

Yeah, I also predict a wild thread when something comes out. Does the DA have to take a criminal charge to the Grand Jury? -

You're right NRA, not heavy enough to be a boat anchor. But I have run across this in several gun shops. -

Thanks for the info Dave. It is a sad situation for everyone involved. And you're right, the question is, why was this perp even out on the street? But we see it all the time. -
It's a shame because I live less than 10 minutes from the Outpost but I've never had a good experience there. You get better service at the local Wal-Mart. They need to turn it back into a Bar/Club/Restaurant and give up on selling guns.

Yeah, this is being sweept under the rug. -
"Bill Wade, the outgoing chair of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees, said Congress should be regretting its decision to allow loaded weapons in national parks. He called Sunday's fatal shooting a tragedy that could have been prevented. He hopes Congress will reconsider the law that took effect in early 2010, but doubts that will happen in today's political climate." Sorry, this guy Bill Wade is an ignorant buzzard. This shooter murdered a Park Ranger! He didn't care if the law allowed him to carry a gun is a National Park or not. This is just the typical reaction from a knee-jerk gun grabber.

Wyatt, do you see that's what I was talking about? Because he was arrested in the past a lot of people will assume he is not telling the truth now. We don't know the story on his previous arrest but we do know the charges were dismissed. Innocent until proven guilty, right. And we still don't know the background on these officers. TMF 18B, yeah, what you said. -

I didn't mean to imply that I assume the officers are guilty. It just seems unfair for his arrest record to be published, and we , the public, who will make up the grand jury, don't know a thing about the officers. Anyone has the right to go to the media and talk, it's up to the media to decide if it's a newsworthy story. I don't see how he "got this story published". Maybe the media found him. Who found out that the people involved were Oak Ridge PD? The investigating Knoxville PD officer. Estep's previous charges were dismissed, he could and should have had them expunged. I think the public, the taxpayer, the voter, has the right to know the whole story. And we probably never will. Unless there's video evidence!!!??? -

I read the article from the Knoxville News Sentinel. Here's the problem I have. Read the last two paragraphs of the article. "Knox County records show Estep was arrested last year on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct involving the driver of a vehicle on Cumberland Avenue. Records show Estep "was overtly hostile, agitated and was screaming profanities" at the officer trying to investigate the crash between one vehicle and another one in which Estep was a passenger. The charges were dismissed upon payment of court costs, records show". But the names of the officers involved have not been released. So Estep is being dragged through the dirt and the officers names won't be known till the case goes to the grand jury. If Estep got the tag number, is there a way to look it up and see who the vehicle is registered to? -
If I have wounded someone who was breaking into my house am I going to disarm myself to give CPR or to put pressure on a wound? No. That would put me or my family in danger. I will call 911, but I will keep myself armed and keep the scene secure. I know that if an ambulance is called to a potentially dangerous scene, they won't go in untill the scene is secured by a LEO. When the scene is secured, the LEO calls the ambulance to come in. It's not the LEO's job to render first aid and it's not the EMT's job to risk his or her life. I figure I've got the same rights and responsibilities they do.

Good way to put it TMF 18B. I'm not a trained medical professional. I figure if I call for an ambulance I have given the best care I can give.

What if you are involved in a SD shooting and no criminal charges are brought against you? Then the bad guy or his family brings civil charges against you. Can what you said to the officer investigating the shooting be brought up in court?
