Water quenching is something that I havn't looked at in a while ( using clip on WW with no problems).. I do have plenty on the stick on WW ingots that I have been thinking of experimenting with. If memory serves me correct quenching is helping to harden the Tin & antimony content, but don't mark my word on that. As far as the old tale of cast boolits not being accurate for any caliber is due to someone not needing to cast boolits. I have been told aslo that my .444 Marlin & my S&W 41 Mag would not like cast boolits. I guess they havn't actually tried.

As a generla rule of thumb the Marlin microgroove barrels are oversized. The problem that comes with that is trying to get a mould that drops a big enough booilt. For the most part there are none of the common brands of moulds that provide one that is big enough. Look at the ranchdog moulds offered by Lee or look a the group buys on cast boolits. My 45-70 sluggs at .458 & with trying to go to the normal .002 over slug size puts me at .460 My .444 slugs at .430 therefore needing a .432. my 30-30 slugs .309

Primer limit at Lebanon Gun Shop
xd shooter replied to gregintenn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Just left mo LGS (the only place in town to buy primers) he has primers by the 100 to make sure someone else can get something. I left the primers there because someone else "needs" them worse than I do. -
Primer limit at Lebanon Gun Shop
xd shooter replied to gregintenn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
It just makes it to where a few more people can have them. For some folks 500 primers will last a very long time & they will have plenty . At the moment I have like 300 SPP. The 500 would have suited me just fine. But that's me. Ha I would actually be pretty tickled! :) -

Well that give 2 more people a chance to have a few! Just saying. :) I don't have a problem with "limits" as it gives more people a chance to set some so maybe (just maybe) this scare will slow a little! -

Skinner sights are the ones I keep looking at & I want the Alaskan for my 35 Rem (just for looks). I have a set of XS gost ring sights on my 444 Marlin, but I havn't had a chance to try them out. There are also the Williams sights that I hear are really good or maybe even the Lyman but I don't like the way they mount & don't look as if they as rigid as the Skinner or the XS. I have 4 centerfire marlin leverguns & plan to try a few different sight systems for them. I have a XS scout rail to try a scout scope on one of them as soon as I can swing the right scope.

I do the same method but I use the LE Wilson trimmer.

Also Batmanwith your Lee Mould be sure to use a lubricant on the bottom of your sprue plate. If you see scratch marks on the top of your mould & lead building up on the bottom of your sprue plate then you can ruin a good mould if your not careful. Email this guy for some Bullplate & follow his directions. It makes casting alot easier. http://bullshop.gunloads.com/ This guy also makes a mould lube called Zip lube. I have not tried it but I hear it works great. He is a great guy to deal with as I have bought some lube ingredients from him. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?131679-TAC-1-boolit-lube-mold-sprue-lube I'm not trying to sell either of these items for these guys. I'm just trying to help out fellow TGO casters.

Yes I would remelt that boolit, but that's me I don't like imperfections in my boolits. I actually inspect mine as I'm casting & if I don't like one I just put it back in the pot then. It loks like the bottom band is solid on your boolit & wouuld probably br fine to shoot, myself I go for consistancy.
-
Thank you sir. I think they are breeding or something! I don't understand, its like every other month or so I have another Marlin!! Seriously they are very adictive!
-
To hell with it just get a few of them!! & on the Remlin I can't speak for everyone else but my 1895 GBL on the bottom is a fine rifle & a hoot to shoot! it was shipped to me from the factory with no tang screw to hold the butstock on. :) From the top. 336 in 30-30, 336 in 35 Rem, 444ss in 444 Marlin, & 1895 GBL in 45-70. I also have a 39a in .22 S,L, LR. I love this one!! I would really like to find one in 357 & 41 Mag.
-
Yes it is. Just shoot me a PM when ya want.

Sniper I don't mind But as stated above find you a realoading manual first. There are some good reads in them that will help you understand the process, safty, measurements, & many other things. It don't really matter wich one you pick up, they all have very useful information. After that don't be ready to save any $$$$ for a while. It is the #1 thing I spend $$ on. Of corse besides every day living & taxes!!
