  1. Unfortunately, that makes perfect sense to me, except that I prefer the 40.
  2. I'm not big on donations to groups either. Grassroots is more effective - if you can actually get people off of their butts and doing things. But I don't know that money donated to NRA hasn't done anything. It helped a few years ago in getting Democrats nervous about voting anti-2A because a number of them were defeated. I think the NRA deserves some credit for that.
  3. I have to agree. There is obviously more to this story. I'd like to hear both sides of this thing. The judge will, and he will decide.
  4. He was thinking that Naifeh was going to be elected anyway and if he gave Naifeh a BJ that his district might get more goodies.
  5. Kingsport area on the 17'th?
  6. If someone doesn't take the hat, I'll have to buy a shotgun to match it.
  7. Me either. That's why I got the digital TV converter box. Of course, if you are on cable or satellite, that's taken care of for you. You can apply for up to two $40 coupons at https://www.dtv2009.gov/. Basically I get the same stations I could get for free (over the air) on a new digital TV. I do lose some resolution of course compared to a new set. HD is very nice, but I'll live with what I have until the prices come down on the HDTVs. I learned my lesson when I spent $1000 many years ago for a SONY Beta recorder. Only thing I miss from the satellite services are a few automobile races. I don't miss getting ripped off each month for ridiculous service fees. That just adds up to more guns.
  8. Actually, it went from 10 to 21. And remember I'm in a really marginal area. The quality depends on the signal. It's either perfect, or it is like what happens when a dense - dark cloud comes over on satellite.
  9. Well, I've been there before with both DIRECTV and Dish Network. But both companies annoyed me, so I zapped them. I had an old analog TV antenna from over at my mother's place, so I installed it and have been on ithe analog airwaves for several months. I despise cable TV sales techniques (only $5 for the first three months....) and the quality frequently sucks for the high price you pay. DSL Internet is through the phone company and guaranteed to never go up. As far as I'm concerned, the cable company can go out of business. Preferably sooner than later. They also have a no-guns sign on their door. When I had the satellite service, I found that the extra channels tended to repeat over years in the cycle. So, at this point I haven't missed all the extra channels. BFD! So I have an antenna on top of the house. Very low tech - and I'm a techie. I did add a Channel Master amplifier that got me some extra PBS and ABC channels from North Carolina and Virginia. The "local" Knoxville PBS channel would never come in. PBS in northeast Tennessee sucks. But even when I could get it, it sucked. No real loss. So DTV comes along. There is a DTV converter box program that gives you $40 toward the cost of a DTV converter box (probably $60) that lets your antiquated analog TV receive digital signals receive digital TV. OK, so I apply for the certificates (I get back $40 that I paid to the government for these things). Actually I applied for two of the certificates, since I have a couple of antiquated TVs. So your converter box is $20. I researched the matter and found out that the Zenith and Insignia converters have the latest and greatest chips that help eliminate multi-path problems. They are the same unit. Made by LG. I have a problem where I am with multi-path on Fox. There is a big knob right between me and the antenna. Big knobs seen to cause lots of problems. Generally, Radio Shack sells the Zenith; Best Buys the Insignia. So...on Thursday, I finally get my coupons. Today, it's rainy and I figure it would be a good time to play around with this project. So I plan to take my coupon to RS and buy the Zenith unit. Good idea, but they don't have any at either Bristol store. So I head up this Interstate for another 6 miles and try Wal-Mart. They are sold out. Another couple of miles on the Lee Highway to the brand new Best Buy. They have the Insignia converter. Racing back to my ranch (hey if Amanda Blake could have an "Avocado Ranch" I can have a three acre grass and tree ranch (Herd up those blades of grass and Oak trees) I arrived home and figured out how to hook up this gadget in short order. It would have taken even less time, but I have to hook up to a Dolby, 5.1 theater system. In the end, I just said F**ck it and used the RF ports. I'll go for quality later. Sooooooo, the story is that it works. I gained about twice the channels and lost none. I had been concerned about the frequency response of my antenna amplifier. No one addresses this. The amp works just fine. I doubled my number of channels. Some are repetitions of other channels. Multi-path is no problem. My "weak" analog channels sometimes work and sometimes are "spotty" But that was true before DTV. Generally, with the coupon, it was well worth the few bucks I spent to upgrade.
  10. Actually, I looked for that the other day. Thanks for posting it.
  11. Anyone know the email address for Days of our Lives? I think this could give the writers some good ideas.
  12. If she followed me back to east Tennessee, she probably weighs about 300 pounds.
  13. Getting back to things that can be done, I still think the only way to get rid of Jimmy Naifeh is to find a Democrat who is not anti-gun and can get the support of 4 or more other Democrats plus all of the Republicans. Meantime I plan to just continue to "bitch and moan", like nipples on a boar hog, to my representatives to press them for ways to fix this. I hope my next "bitch and moan" session can be with Nathan Vaughn of Kingsport. Vaughn happens to be a Democrat and had his bill to give veterans with psychological problems back their gun rights after, I think it was, seven years. Naifeh made a point of personally showing up for the committee vote that killed the measure. I think you will find Democrats in the house who don't like Naifeh either. For right now, I think this is the most feasible way to get rid of Naifeh as Speaker. It seems to me that this is something all pro-gun groups and individuals can work on in the next few months - if they will.
  14. TennFire, it's not what you do, but what you don't do,. From what my legislators tell me, you don't do much. It does seem odd that you only show up here on TGO when it might affect your bottom line. Yes we all know...you don't make much - but then again, it seems to me that you don't do much. Where were you in all of the dozens of legislative topics discussing legislation before this? You only show up to weakly defend yourself.
  15. Beats me, but I was very proud to get that head. I have two. Make me an offer. Hey Cody, so far it's free!!!! That's cheaper than a check.
  16. Lots of unintelligent intelligence.
  17. Uh...who is he and who cares?
  18. Well, no one seems to want the damn cap. - even for free.
  19. That's the thing. You don't know enough about the eccentricities, and personal favors, of the law to win. Get a lawyer. I'd suggest an older lawyer. I might win without a lawyer, but then again I know the law and also at my age, the judge is probably a personal friend....
  20. Apparently, this is depending on the computer system and the department. Doesn't matter. Just inform them. Chances are you will get better treatment if you have a permit.
  21. I quit smoking in 1969 before Nam and well before quitting my government job (temporarily) after getting wounded twice and coming entirely too close to dieing in the process. The following summer, I was back in college. Being basically aimless, I ended up working in a drive-in restaurant on the beach in Nags Head, NC but living in Manteo. At the end of the summer, I decided to stay over to have some fun. I met a girl and we had a lot of fun for a week. You can fill in the gaps.... That was a big deal back then. She smoked and so did I - for that week. I just wore a jock strap, if that, under my shorts and she didn't. I have very fond memories of that week in the surf and sand. I'm sure there is a syrupy movie in this. The trick is control. Sex tends to take control over smoking. Just believe me. . Just stop smoking again after that. If you are married, allowing sex to be less important should be natural.
  22. I must strongly suggest the largest handgun you have strapped to your bare chest just above yout belly button with duct tape. You might want to tape your carry permit across your left nipple and your carry permit badge across the right one (unless it is pierced, in which case just thread that sucker through).
  23. It is really a good idea to get an attorney. Yes they are expensive, but you may end up in front of judge smart-ass if you represent yourself. Would you like to appear before Judge Judy? Many judges are much worse. Attorneys can often head off problems. You could end up with a permanent protection injunction against you that will prevent not only carry, but buying any more guns. You will need an attorney later to get that reascended. Pay now or pay later. BTW, they will be more expensive later. Meantime, you may pack until they rescind your permit.
  24. TGO is not a paid lobbying group. TFA is supposed...to be one. TFA and Harris are barely known to the political leaders in Nashville. It is simply ineffective. Quit hiding your head in the sand? Tim, you do a good job. I have no problem with you. Harris OTOH is a dip.
