    Snake!!!!

I hear that chicken tastes a lot like snake.
  2. One of the things I have learned over the years is that humans are not deer. You shoot a deer, and it will fight to flee until it can no longer do so. Humans sometimes do that, but also sometimes will collapse with minor wounds. You don't know which kind of human you will get when you shoot it, so it's a good idea to go for areas where you can do a lot of neural damage, or places that make them bleed a lot. Knowing where those spots are and keeping a cool head will go a long way toward keeping you alive and making sure that they are not.
  3. Here's a better look at what I carry. There is the Gerber and the Cold Steel I carry on the web belt. But the one I absolutely always carry is the little Victorinox. I have sent some of them to guys being deployed. They thought I was nuts until they found out how useful the little knife is, especially the thin, but strong, screwdriver blade. I eventually get a note back telling me they now understand why I am so high on that knife. I see Cold Steel has updated their dorky knife DVD. The old one I have has the owner (I think) running around in shorts and doing the idiotic demonstrations. Don't get me wrong, they make some good knives. You will note that I carry one. I wouldn't suggest using it to open a C-ration can, but it is an excellent slasher/gutter. CS's reputation is built on excellent heat treating, but their newer offerings have become more conventional with more "standard" steels. Few knife brands can be counted on to only have excellent steel for the purpose sold. But the name brands generally have some truly good knives if you research knife steel and design. Most also have a lot of crap. You have to do your homework.
  4. I suspect the receipt extension was intended for folks who paid for their renewal at the last second. But that's not what the code says. Looks like the original intention was to allow the sheriff to have 30 days for his input and another 30 days for the background check. The last 30 should be for the standard bureaucratic inertia. With that TV report, they are probably doing a more thorough review of all applications and renewals, and maybe current permit holders as time allows. I think I'll put in for a duplicate permit just for fun.
  5. 380 ACP, 9mm, 40 S&W Kel-Tec P3AT, H&K P7M8, H&K USP 40, plus a Beretta 92SB for field use.
  6. There is an obvious joke there about making #1, but of course I won't mention it. But your reasoning is largely what lead me to go with a 9mm in the 80s rather than the "standard" 45 ACP for field use. 16 rounds of 9mm before reloading sounded a lot better than 8 rounds. I still use it in the field. But for closer urban ranges, I decided to go with the larger 40 S&W round. If I had to choose only one, I'd go with the 9mm.
  7. Denial is such a wonderful thing.
  8. Just send the renewal 90 days before the permit expires and you won't have to worry with this stuff. That's a lot of what I got from this topic.
  9. Do you have Kevlar shorts too?
  10. Sounds like lukewarm recommendations at best.
  11. Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert Folder * Uncommon strength and balance * 154CM blade with titanium nitride coating * Patented Roto-Lock * Limited Lifetime Warranty * Overall Length: 8.7" * Length Closed: 4.9" * Length of Blade: 3.78" * Weight: 4.2 oz. * Blade Material: 154CM * Handle Material: Glass-filled nylon * Blade Style: Spear * Blade Type: Double bevel It doesn't mention it but the handles are unlikely to break. As well as the glass filled nylon, it also has full length stainless steel panels under the plastic. Suggested Retail: $167.80 Recommended by a LE buddy in North Carolina. I've carried it every day for years.
  12. You must be using the wrong ammo.
  13. Hey Tower, that wasn't the extended mag...oops...clip I was thinking about.
  14. I like Jägermeister.
  15. Could be Eddie. There is a visible difference in the permanent and temporary wound channel. I tried to find a comparison on The Box O' Truth but didn't come up with anything. I may look again. That site could some better organization.
  16. This has been a very useful topic.
  17. Something just doesn't look right about this study. I'd have to examine the data on my own. I'm particularly skeptical about the gelatin pics that shows the virtually same mass 357SIG and 9mm JHPs have the same penetration although the 357 has a significantly higher velocity. Maybe they are using very different designs of JHPs? If so, the review becomes apples and oranges. Having said that, I like both 9mm and 40 S&W. I carry them both, normally not at the same time. I can agree, based on experience, that they both work fine. The 40 has the edge for closer urban carry, but for more distant field use, I prefer the 9mm.
  18. I've noticed that.
  19. So you have twice the cost and chances of getting back just weapon parts?
  20. I was thinking the same thing.
  21. Sounds good. I'll try to store that in my memory bank.
  22. Yeah Tungsten, what do you think of board owners who make you join to see the stuff on their board?
  23. Someone needs to tell the Doublemint twins to chew with their mouth closed.
