  1. Brother in law was late getting to the dinner table today. Called about 1030 and asked for some help getting one out. He knocked down a nice 11 point. He has hunted this same deer for 2 years now and Im happy he finally got to see it through.
  2. Pm sent buddy. Happy Thanksgiving!!
  3. Send away my friend. I'm always open to giving bad advice and swapping lies
  4. Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Blessed Thanksgiving. Hope everyone has a fantastic day and remember to send up a prayer or take a quiet moment to reflect on what you're thankful for. I'm thankful for a healthy family and for the ammo shortage starting to ease off every so slightly
  5. Yes, eventually. I wanted to get an idea of how it was gonna look together before i stripped and patinaed the rest of it. Also wanna see how maintenance intensive it is first. It may end up cerakoted in the end but Im digging the look.
  6. So decided since this rifle has been free so far I would try something different before I decide to cerakote the rifle. The epoxy in the stock cured tight so I hand sanded the stock and forearm down to 800 grit. Then I used a method I found online of putting on tru oil and mixing it with Armor all. It has a catalyst effect on the tru oil causing it to cure faster and harder. I was able to hand rub a dozen coats of tru oil into the stock and forearm. I then went after the receiver. I wet sanded it down to 1k grit, then using a technique I used on knives, I did a mustard and vinegar steam patina in the receiver. The result is a gray, antique worn look. It looks much better than the rusty freckles tat where on it. For now Im gonna call this one good enough for the deer woods.
  7. Man thats been a minute. 9 years ago. That knife is laying in the top of my closest. I finally busted the handle it. I need to get it down snd rehandle it st some point
  8. I traded it in on a Springfield 1911. Everytime i looked it at I got madder than hell so it had to go
  9. I didn't take it badly or anything. I agree it could have turned out much worse. I almost widowed my wife and left my two babies that day. It was scary and violent and once the adrenaline and shock wore off my hands shook for days and I didnt sleep well for months. All things considered I got extremely lucky to survive, especially considering I hit a block wall head on at speeds in excess of 70 mph with no seatbelt on.
  10. Worth it? From a monetary stand point absolutely not. My health insurance covered my medical bills. No idea who covered theres but I never heard anything about it. My car insurance didnt pay out anything, I had liability only and since I intentionally used the truck as a battering ram it did not rule it is an accident. Their car insurance company sent me and my insurance a letter demanding payment, but I simply sent them the police report and they magically decided I wasnt liable for any damages due to the wreck happening while their client was in commission of a crime. I did not get charged with any crimes, using the vehicle as a blocking maneuver the first time was not seen as criminal since they had just committed armed robbery, and ramming them the second time was justified self defense since they had fired shots at me. I did go to court as state witness multiple times and they are both currently serving 10 years each for a list of felonies and misdemeanors for which they were found guilty. At the end of the day, the decision to try and stop them was rash and impulsive and cost me far more than the $500 Glock. But its hard for me to say it wasnt worth it totally because those two scumbags will never forget that, and at least for the next few years they will be in prison instead of free to continue ripping people off. At the end of the day, if i could do it over I would just call 911 and at the most, try to keep up to get a tag number. But events like this happen in seconds and at least partly because the Marine Corps has engrained me to do something, anything when the #### hits the fan I reacted purely on instinct and did what I thought was best at the time.
  11. So this is where Im at now. The cracked is sealed completely with acralock. I drilled a blind hole through the bottom and seated a 1/4" rod about 4" long into the stock and acralocked into place. I decided to just leave the black dot. I can always use wood filler later to help blend it. The stock is hand sanded to 220. The pictures are with it whipped down with a damp rag. Thats the final color im after. Next comes hand sanding to 600 grit then a truoil finish. Then the forearm will get the same treatment. Im happy with it. Total repair cost to date $0
  12. Not the same way. If everything else was the same up to the moment they grabbed the gun, I would have chased them to get a tag number and called the police enroute. But hindsight is always 20-20 and im betting they never forget it, because i know i wont
  13. Brought the stock into work with me today. Filled the cracked using the screw hole as an entry port, and pumped the entire hole and crack full of Acralock. We use this stuff to install boat decks onto hulls. 2750 psi working strength, 80-120% elongation before it sheers after curing. Its some heavy duty ####. I got it taped and zip tied up tight while that cures. Full cure is 1.5 hours so at lunch im gonna pull it down and drill it and dowel it with 1/4" diameter aluminum rods in a couple spots, again installed using acralock. My goal isnt an invisible repair, its a clean and neat repair with as much strength as possible.
  14. I think I'm in love. Or maybe I'm in heat. Either way that thing is gorgeous. I mostly want for ringing steel out to 500 at my place on weekends, but I would enjoy the challenge of deer hunting with one on occasion. Even if they are heavy as hell.
  15. So I have become very interested in getting into semi long range shooting with a big caliber single action. Dies anyone here shoot one or have any reccomendations? Ive looked at several on Dixie gun works but don't really know what extras are fluff and what really makes a difference. I do want to stay with .45-70 as i dont see any advantages to 45-90 and bigger when using smokeless. Anybody got any advice on rifle choice, or the hobby in general
  16. Thats how we did it. For Carson it was 2 years on constant worry with his meth addict mommy constantly in and out of the picture and dcs dropping the ball repeatedly on paperwork and court dates, etc. Elizabeth case was easy. She was positive for amphetamines from birth and her mom signed over her parental rights asap to avoid child support and charges
  17. As long as its not cracked am I good? Or should i replace it while Im in there anyways
  18. Adopted two kids while ive been gone. Proud daddy to a now 5 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. We got our son when he was 22 months, and our daughter when she was 5 days old.
  19. Time to time. I still do a bit of blacksmithing and wood working. Also climb and cut hazard residential trees as a side gig, and lots of gardening and homestead stuff. Enough to stay busy lol.
  20. I use a water bed heater wrapped around my mash barrel in the off season to keep it up to working temp. Ive never had an issue with milky whiskey but I run a thump keg which serves to help up the proof and works as a slobber box.
  21. All pictures and the event transpired 2.5 years ago in 2019. No more investigation so i can discuss facts openly. So I have been gone from here a few years with life in general keeping me busy. In April of 2019 i had an ad for a Glock 36 posted on Armslist. The ad was answered by text message on Easter Sunday and I arranged to meet the buyer the next evening in Knoxville. Mistake #1 I didnt insist on meeting in a familiar, safe area. I left work and got to the Little Ceasars, agreed upon meeting place, at the meet time. Mistake #2 I went alone without someone to watch my back. Two young, black men showed up and we discussed the gun. They talked through the passenger window and I stayed in the truck with the windows down. I had a loaded firearm concealed out of sight. Subject A went to "get the money" and started the car. Subject B then grabbed the unloaded glock from my seat and ran to the car. Im not wired to let someone drive off with my stuff but I did maintain enough cognitive thought to know that shooting an individual in the back running away from me in a parking lot would end with me in prison. So instead i used the truck to try and stop them. I hit then the first time in the passenger side and caved in their door. I then chased them onto Hembree street where the passenger took a few pot shots out the window striking the truck at least twice. I then struck them in the driver rear quarter pabel at approximately 80 mph when they slowed and tried to turn left at MLK. I went through there car, blew the intersection and through an abandoned block building on the other side of the street. At the end of the day they both went to prison for multiple felonies, I recovered the gun that was stolen. I also totalled two vehicles, my 2003 Toyota Tundra and their 2015 Chevy Malibu. I ended up in the ER for my wreck injuries. I crushed my sinuses, broke most of the bones in my face, split my forehead, broke my C7 vertebrae and generally got messed up. So word to the wise. Stay vigilant, meet somewhere familiar, take people with you, and if your gut says dont do it, then listen
  22. Howdy. I spent some time up there on and off. Did a lot of the work on that Oreillys in Jellico when they remodeled that old IGA for it back in '14.
  23. Thanks man. Its been a while for sure
  24. Stripping it down. This is the stock crack. Im very tempted to attempt to fix it and refinish just to see if I can make it look right. As was mentioned earlier if i screw it up I can buy a new stock for under $100
