I just made it home and am very happy for it. 4,103.2 miles. That was a rough stretch and a great accomplishment for me. Now, I don't know that I would ever do it again.... :) -

Just hit my last night on the return trip. I am staying n Fairview, IL. Kansas was more high wind. Apparently, the mid and southwest is not for me. However, once we got Missouri, the terrain was much more like home and the wind died off. It was easily our most productive stretch, knocking out 500+ miles in less than 8 hours. -

If I ever have a desire for a touring bike after this, it will be a GoldWing. -

Long day today with less miles accomplished than I hoped for. 15 hours and 850 miles down. Just stopped in Limon, CO for the night. We spent about 9 hours, mostly in Utah, in an arm of the heavy winds we experienced in Arizona. -
Same here. Inglourious Basterds all the way.

So, leaving to come back home at 7 am local time. I have basically spent about as much time here as it took me to get here. The ride and subsequent demands for my time have been very tiring. I do not think I should have mixed this amount of business with "the ride". C'est la vie. It will be a different route going home. We will head up to Denver to go home. We are planning to "only" ride 800 miles each day the first 2 days and finish on the 3rd. Wish me luck. -

I passed the time in thought. Mostly thinking I should have bought a touring bike instead of doing 2k miles each way on a cruiser..... And honestly, I don't mind being able to think without interruption. That was kind of nice for my head even though it was rough on the body. -

Copies of the gas receipts and 3rd party verification of the odometer. Vegas, I think, is wasted on me. Not a gambler or big into the night club scene. I am older than my years. :( -

As soon as I figure out how to load from an iPhone I will. Not too many pics right now since we did mostly "gas and go" though we did get one in the parking garage of the Hilton we are staying at right after we arrived. -

Close. We made it to Vegas (by way of needles, CA) at 1:30am EST. We ended up with a total of 2,076 miles in 45.5 hours. I will add a list of items i have learned and saw during this trip. Had quite a few epiphanies regarding my life and life in general. Lot of time for thought on a cruiser bike with no radio or squat over the course of this trip. Thanks for all the well wishes and concern. I wanted to share this with the gun guys as well as the bike guys, especially since you folks are an entertaining group... :) -

And I'll add that we drove through a mini-monsoon for almost 3 hrs yesterday. That truly sucked. -

Thanks for the concern. We are currently about 250 miles from Las Vegas. We are actually in Two Gun, AZ sitting out 50mph crosswinds. Still have plenty of time to make it in less than 48, so we are being cautious. On a side note, we made the first 1k in 16 hrs. And I don't think I'm stupid ..... ;) -

Using the bead rider :) and the rain gear is a must all things considered. Thanks for all the well wishes. I'll try to post up some pics as I go. -

That's a nice trip. Rode Chattanooga to Daytona on a CBR1000RR. Much different ride than the laid back bike I'm on now... -

I am riding a 2012 Victory Vegas. The other two are riding on an ElectriGlide and a RoadGlide, respectively. Should be a lot of fun, even if we hit rain (very possible between Murfreesboro / Nashville and Memphis) -
Here's the story: I am the plant manager for 2 manufacturing plants in Chattanooga. My plants are part of a larger organization. The company scheduled an "Operations Meeting" around the Pack Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, which starts Monday. My boss, the VP of Ops, and the Corporate Director of Technology are both officed in Chattanooga, and both ride bikes, as well. I mentioned off-hand to my boss a few weeks ago that we should ride out. To make a long story short, we are leaving in the morning at 4am for an "Iron Butt" ride to Las Vegas starting in Chattanooga. We have plotted this out at a little over 2k miles, and have plotted the layout to arrive in Vegas at approximately 12am EST Monday Morning / 9pm Vegas time, effectively making this ride in 45 hours. Wish me luck!

"We are Marshall" is an excellent movie. All 3 are good picks. I would also throw in "Bull Durham". Classic.

I like sitting on the porch smoking a decent cigar with a scotch. I sometime prefer a bourbon or Tennessee whiskey, but normally scotch. Also, I like to hit the mountain roads where I live on the motorcycle. Beautiful scenery.

:stunned: There are no words to describe these.

No hate for you, Mike. Olberman on the other hand, is a flaming douchebag. I refuse to lose another brain cell from listening to his mind numbing holier than thou elitist crap.

Picked up another motorcycle and insurance problems.

I think the best way to get rid of this headache is to sell the bike to me for little of nothing, and let me deal with the insurance woes.... :) -
I thought this was video of the weekly rock slide on 64 highway in Polk County.... ;)

It is funny how interests change from time to time.

My "go to" gun is a Ruger M77 in .25/06. One of my favorite general purpose calibers of all time. Shoots fast, flat, and takes down any game in the Southeast with authority without destroying the animal completely. Can load it down to 70gr bullets for varmint up to 120gr which is good for the medium / large game in the area. That being said, back on topic. My interests and hobbies range from old hot rods (have a 72 Mach 1 that was built from the ground up) to old 4x4s (have a 79 Cherokee Chief my son and I are building together) any and all power tools and equipment, motorcycles, hunting, fishing, shooting, reloading, 4 wheelers / dirt bikes, etc. This list could keep going for days, And my wife is good enough to deal with my addictions so long as she can have her shoes, clothes, antique china cabinets and tables, china, etc., etc., etc.... :) -
Ran over a Yellow Jacket nest while push mowing today
Good_Steward replied to Seabeejason's topic in General Chat
My 12 year old son ran over a nest this morning while mowing. The little bastards got him 6 times before got in the house. He did bring a couple in wih him on his clothes, which I promptly destroyed. When I went outside, the mower was in a fog of yellow jackets. I hosed them down with Spectricide to knock them out of the air, found the hole in the dirt they were trying to get back in to, and dumped about half a gallon of gasoline down it. Been on the hunt for more nests since.
