  1. Southern Ohio Gun will also set you up an account with your C&R.  As for cost / benefit analysis with the cost only $30 for three years if you only have one C&R firearm shipped to you saving the transfer fee (seems to average ~$25 at least 'round here) and background ($10) you're probably already ahead.
  2. I've got the AT&T Mobile Share Value Plan.  I had thought to go prepaid when my contract is up but with the MSVP if you don't have a subsidized phone it works out about the same as what it was going to be for 3 phones on a prepaid so I'll probably stick with AT&T.  I suspect the MSVP is AT&T's reaction to people figuring out that those phones aren't really "free."  IMHO AT&T and Verizon still have the better signals and if I went prepaid (and there are some decent deals out there) I'd stick with someone who is reselling AT&T or Verizon service.  YMMV.  The white zone is for loading and unloading only.
  3. I've thought that area was starved for a user friendly LGS with a range for the last couple of years.  They'll likely do well, especially if they're price competitive with Academy and now Gander Mountain in the mix.
  4. To paraphrase a lot of what Nick says, the "good old days" were back before you had adult responsibilities and problems.  Ask your parents if you're fortunate enough to have one or both living.  I bet your "good old days" weren't theirs because they were busy worrying about buying groceries, paying the mortgage and raising you.   There are things I miss and things I wish weren't the way they are and as such I long for different times on occasion.  I think it's just part of the aging process.  At the same time, I think it best to be careful when talking with younger folks to not always be negative with them about the state of the world.  In doing so, you may be taking away their "good old days."
  5. Not so black and white methinks.   http://www.tncourts.gov/sites/default/files/OPINIONS/TSC/PDF/013/hickslarry.pdf
  6. I try to spend my money with those businesses I would miss if they closed.  That sentiment goes for the LGS as much if not more than retailers in other lines of goods.   I live in town.  I can’t shoot on my own property and don’t have a convenient place to shoot outdoors.  However, I do have three indoor ranges within a couple miles of my house.  I’m a relative newbie and appreciate the advice I’ve received at the LGS.  I appreciate what the LGS has to sell beyond the goods they offer.  I’d miss ‘em if they were gone.   I want a bargain as much as anyone else.  Lest I seem hypocritical, I will admit that I have done and still do some e-commerce.  However, as time has gone by, my e-commerce purchases are driven more and more by availability issues rather than purely price.   LGS(s) are engaged in a business and if their business model doesn’t work they’ll fail.  I understand and accept this.  However I also understand that a good LGS store is likely to have at least some of the following expenses (and likely lots more that don’t immediately come to mind) above and beyond the typical e-tailer:  1) Rent on retail friendly space.  2)  Knowledgeable staff sufficient to staff retail hours that probably has to be paid better than pick-and-pack warehouse help or big box retail clerks.  3)  A range that admittedly opens up additional streams of income but still has associated build-out, maintenance and liability insurance costs.  To expect a LGS to compete dollar-for-dollar with a warehouse operation or some fellow making some extra cash running a friends and family / e-commerce / gun show operation out of his basement isn’t realistic.  I take this into account and appreciate the LGS(s) that try to get close.       I don’t want to tell anyone how to spend their money.  At the same time, we all vote with our dollars.  What we support flourishes and what we don’t disappears.
  7. Maybe there was some legitimacy to the term in the past but I think anymore "middle class" is just a political talking point.  If you make enough money to "afford" (and that's another discussion in itself) this arbitrary list of goods and services you are "middle class."  I am for the "middle class" and if you vote for me I will protect you from those who have less and / or more than you do.  Another way of classifying people and convincing them that they are fundamentally different from those who have more or less than they do and need protection from "those people."
  8. Considering that this bill passed 23 to 5 in the Senate and 79 to 10 in the House that would be the changing of a lot of hearts in a short time.
  9. At the risk of playing word games, I have at times felt uncomfortable if not anxious.  I decided it's more of a set up issue for me and if I hit on the right holster, etc. for the situation while I know the gun is still there I don't really think about it and it doesn't bother me.  Like others have mentioned I don't really think most people even think to notice as they're busy thinking about what's for supper or whether Kim's new marriage will work out.  As a disclaimer, I'm so fat I could probably carry anything short of a full size in a fat fold.
  10. They don't have any currently but you might keep an eye out at ammunitiondepot.com.  I've never done business with them but they seem to have a better than average selection of SD ammo.  I picked up some .45ACP Federal Hydrashock (which I think was ~ a predecessor of the HST) from ammoman.com some time ago when it was hard to find anything anywhere so while they likewise don't have any 9mm HST now you might keep a watch out there as well.
  11. I've been on the board of a couple of non-profits but have never dealt with the logistics of setting one up.  The Center for Nonprofit Management (http://www.cnm.org/) has a good rep. I'd start there.  I also have a buddy who set one up in the last few years.  I know he used a company to set up the tax status.  If you get to the point where that's a concern let me know and I'll hook yall up.
  12. Nothing like a misspelling to turn grown men into Beavis and Butthead.  He said rear.  Huh-huh.  Yea. Yea.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wpd2VaFt5iY   Enjoy.
  14. I hadn't intended to order any and really just wanted to pass it along but when it was still available yesterday morning I decided to bundle it with a few other things I was going to end up buying anyway (albeit probably elsewhere) to take some sting out of the shipping.  I had stocked up a little (for me / I don't have the bricks with the $7.99 price tag like I suspect some of yall do) late 2012 and that has lasted me.  I'm not gonna scour the internet daily or line up at stores before open but I figure it's worth picking up a little when I see some at decent prices.
  15. The fact is some do care and will continue to do so.  I'm all about people asserting their rights.  I'm also pragmatic and willing to delay assertion of certain rights for my own safety.  If there's unacceptable behavior on the part of LE I can seek redress later.  I prefer that scenario over my heirs seeking such redress in my stead.  (Not that you were disagreeing with me just hoping to clarify my position.)
  16. I'd hand 'em my HCP if armed.  If I didn't have a weapon on me I would at least inform the officer that I have a HCP but have no weapons in the passenger compartment.  I think it just freaks some of 'em out a bit when they run the DL and find out you have a HCP that you haven't disclosed. Not that I don't care about the officer's safety but frankly I care a bit about my own.  IMHO, officers tend to represent a cross section of their communities.  Do you know anyone in your town who's stupid?  doesn't have a proper temperament for their job?  I'm not anti-law enforcement by any means.  I just recognize that LEOs are people too.  Sometimes you have to plan for the lowest common denominator.  The officer walking up to your car may be the brightest, best-trained, most even tempered veteran on the force.  He may be a frightened 22 year old right out of the academy wondering why he isn't stocking shelves somewhere instead of walking up on unknown situations at 3a.m.  Anything I can do to make sure the LEO knows he has nothing to fear from me and should keep his firearm holstered, that's the way I'm gonna roll.
  17. Midway has Federal AutoMatch $16.29 for 325.  Limit 1.  Shipping is stiff but could be a good add on if anyone is planning an order.    http://www.midwayusa.com/product/193520/federal-automatch-target-ammunition-22-long-rifle-40-grain-lead-round-nose-box-of-325
  18. I suspect this is in response to Amazon (at least at times as you have to be careful with small orders and their "free" shipping with Prime) taking a bite out of them.  As I recall before most every order out the door at Midway had a ~$12-15 shipping charge no matter how little you ordered.
  19. As a disclaimer, I probably know less about S&W revolvers than anyone else who's posted here.  That said, I'd try to shoot a 442/642 before I made any moves.  You may not like it and then the point is moot.  I'd think you could find a shop near with a rental or maybe a TGOer near you willing to help out.  (I'm not near you nor do I own a 442/642 or I'd offer.)   That said, I'm thinking you'll run across more 442/642s than you will 640s so if you like the 640 (other than the ankle carry issue) I'd be slow to part with the 640 and look at other funding options first.   My $0.02.
  20. I'm pretty sure Discovery doesn't have a Roku channel but a number of the other "cable" networks do.  In most cases you can get some but not all of their content without a subscription.  I enjoy a lot of the documentary, nature, travel type programs from Discovery and similar networks (e.g. Nat Geo).  I don't know the exact ownership situations but realized at a certain point back when I had subscription television that a number of these networks must have common ownership with all the shared content.     I'd just get a Roku (they're pretty cheap) and give it a try.  Do it as a both / and for a while rather than an either / or.  You may find that even if you can't get Discovery content you can get enough similar programming to satisfy your itch.  Hulu+, Netflix and Amazon Prime all offer free trials so you can give those a spin as well.   We cut the cord a few months ago and I really do not miss it.  There are probably a few shows I don't get to watch anymore but I never feel like I don't have something to watch (Disclaimer:  we do have the three above noted streaming services).  I have found that I probably (perish the thought) watch less television than before (not a bad thing).  Plus, I don't miss paying for and in that sense supporting the ever increasing cumulative-national-IQ-lowering parade of reality shows.  Apologies if reality television is your guilty pleasure but shouldn't there be a quota on how many stupid, vapid people have to become "famous?"
  21. I was going to chime in about Sumner Gun but wasn’t sure of their caliber restrictions (if any).  Awfully good bunch of folks over there.  I am not a member at GGC but was told by a member that the membership is limited but it’s only probably 20% of the membership that uses the range on a regular basis.  Membership is so cheap folks just hold onto them like a PSL for the Titans.  That said you might check into getting on the wait list but I wouldn’t expect anything soon unless that situation has changed a lot in the last couple of years.  There’s also a TWRA range over in Antioch by Percy Priest.  Bit of a haul from G-town but probably not more so than Clarksville.  Every time I go to Clarksville from Gallatin I feel like I can’t get there, feels like you have to go to Nashville and turn right.  Welcome to the big city.
  22. I personally think the market is going to stabilize around $0.05 a round over the next couple years on the low end target stuff that was running ~$0.035 pre-panic (e.g., WWB).  If pressed, I can't justify why I think that and it may turn out to be wishful thinking.  My other pet theory is that the big boxes have been holding out.  They release just enough at reasonable prices to be able to claim that they're trying to help the consumer through this difficult time.  The big boxes don't want to be perceived to gouge and thus would be hesitant to flood the market at say ~$0.10 a round and risk long term backlash.  However, as the market stabilizes at say ~$0.05 a round they could release the flood gates and see almost a 50% return for sitting on their stock for a year or two.  I admit that this theory is based entirely on the economics (most capitalists would be willing to sit on a commodity for a year or two for a fairly safe 50% return).  I do not have any actual knowledge regarding such stockpiles.  I'll go change the tinfoil in my hat now :squint:
  23. Was by there ~11:00AM and they had some 50 count boxes at customer service.  $3.49 for CCI standard velocity.  Couple other brands for a little more.  Limit 2 boxes.
