1. Thanks for the replies so far guys ! Keep them comming. I think that I may try a deer neck roast on my pit first. The neck has a lot of good meat that has fat running through it really good so the fat may keep it from drying out so bad . When I cut the neck meat off of the neck it comes off in what looks like a big long layer of meat around the neck . SO I will roll the meat up in a large roll and then tie it with baker's twine and cook it on my pit . I'm gonna do it next week when we make our grocery store run . That way I can get some pork butts to cook with it so I dont waste a lot of wood on cooking just a deer neck . I will post some pictures. Thanks for all the replies and help !
2.
Wouldn't the fact that there is very little fat in deer be a problem?
This is why I asked about this . But I have heard of lots of people doing it with no bacon. I am just trying to see what temperature they use and how long to cook it .
3. Cant you put fish in it and cook it to where you can eat the bones ? Like salmon in a can where the bones are soft enough to eat ?
4. I built me an old fashioned open pit this past summer. It is the kind made of concrete block and I have a metal grate in it . I lay the meat on the grate and slow cook/smoke the meat for like 12 -15 hrs and use a wooden top for it . I burn oak and hickeory wood in a old burn barrel then shovel the coals from it to my pit and cook that way. SSSSSOOOOO my question is this : Have any of you guys that cook with a pit like mine ever cooked a whole deer ham/leg in a pit ? If so how did it turn out and how long did you cook it ? And what temperature did you keep it at ? I keep my pork and chickens at 200-225. Any information is appreciated .
5. This is a good topic.
6.
Not entering but: Cheesey Chicken 2 cups of macroni, bring water to a boil dump the macroni in for 2 minutes and drain Extra Sharp cheddar cheese, I used about 12 oz. use whatever is to your liking 2 cups of chicken, cubed into 1" squares, I used 1 whole boneless chicken breast 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup 1 1/2 cups of milk 2 small cooking onions mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk and onions together until creamy, layer the precooked mac onto the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan, then add the chicken, make sure you have enough chicken to cover the mac, then add the cheese, again add enough to cover the chicken, biw add the mushroom soup mixture on top of that, do not mix. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until soup is bubbly. This is optional but add another layer of cheese on top of casserole when you take it out of the oven.
I just made dralrms cheesy chicken and it ROCKED !!!! dralarms gets an A+ . Here is a picture of it ......
7.
It's all about how the meat is processed and cared for. I'll take gamey over steroids, antibiotics and God knows what else they put in that meat.
Oh yes !
8.
I recently received some deer meat and have had the same responses. Some people are open to try it and some won't touch it (and have never even tried it). I try to explain to people that if they will eat a chicken they should eat deer. Chickens are nasty little creatures that scavenge and eat their own kind( I do eat chicken though). I was a butcher for many years and know what quality is. Our creator put these animals here for us to eat and they will win any quality contest against anything store bought.
Amen , I worked in a grocery store when they had REAL butchers like you probably are , and those guys taught me a lot . They have talant !
9.
I actually prefer the taste of wild game over the bland taste of farm raised. Anyone who has had wild turkey will confirm this. Dolomite
Oh yes and when wild animals eat what the Lord intended for them to eat , they are better for you health wise. Like cows. God made cows to eat grass and not eat grain . When you eat beef that is grain fed , you dont get a lot of benefits. When you eat a cow that grazes and has eaten all grass , you get omega 3 fats and lots of vitamins and better versus grain fed. You can lose weight by eating grass fed beef belive it or not ! It is good for you and healthier . The same goes for deer and turkey and so forth .
10.
There's a place in Brentwood that has ads on 99.7, I think that operates like that. I don't know about their services, though.
Not trying to get off topic but 99.7 is a great station to listen to and they , mostly Phill Valentine , talks about this topic a lot and is very good to listen to .
11. I have been cooking since I was 11 yrs old. I am now 39 . So I think I got the right to "rant" a bit .I dont just cook and or BBQ , I do it all , I bake and do all kinds of cooking. My wife has been in college for a long time and works full time like me so I have cooked for my family for several years since my wife has long hours and doesnt get home till late , I am presently butchering some deer and some of my in-laws and other family were going on and on and they said this " Oh lawd , wild deer and wild meat has that wild taste to it , oh lawd you gona have to soak that meat in milk and salt water to make it taste good or else it's gonna have that wild taste" . I know blah blah blah . I try to ignore that kinda crap but it sure gets aggrivating. I dont know about you guys but I have learned that if you kill your animal , whatever it may be , and then gut it and then process/butcher it however you may do it , then get it in the refridgerator , then it should taste just fine . When people say "it has a wild taste" , I think they are eating meat that has sat outside in the warm air too long . The meat has started to rot and decay . Have any of you guys gotten this crap from friends and all about how you should only eat store bought food because it doesnt have a "wild taste" ? Ok I am off of my soap box , haha .
12. Thats good !

Armalite AR-24?
Seeking opinions on this gun. I have a buddy that's offered me his at $425...which appears to be a good deal. I am exclusively 9mm in handguns, so it meets that criterion. I just am wondering if anyone has experience with these.
Did you ever get the AR24 ?

Armalite AR-24?

They are pretty good and a good CZ clone. I love CZ and CZ clones .
15.
We tried them this year, maybe we did it wrong but I didn't care for them at all. They were very hard to chew.
Just roast them longer . I do mine for around 30 minutes on 350 degrees. The longer the crunchier .
16. They taste better than nuts , no vulgar comments , haha !
17. I just made a bunch of raosted pumpkin seeds. They were going to be thrown away so I figured why not eat them ! I used olive oil , some Louisiana hot sauce and heat at 350 for 30 minutes.
18. I have had a Glock knife for about 5 years. Have you guys had good luck with them ? I ordered one for my son for Christmas . I have cut deer stand straps and bungee cords and tow straps with mine . It has been great ! How have your experiences been ?
19. I'm still here , haha . Thank God !
20. I guess I am a rare bird . I am married and I have two kids. I work and pay my bills and my taxes and I do not cheat on my wife nor beat her , I love her and my kids . These damn people now days just dont have a dang bit of sense ! My son is 14 yrs old and 6 foot 1 and he still doesnt go out of our yard unless he has permission ! He is such a good boy .
21. eeefffing politics getting good Americans and people killed !!!
22. YES YES YES Reloading equipment and learn how to reload your own ammo. That is exactly what I will do in a few years when we get out of debt.
23. I'm not complaining at all but I thought the bulk packs of .22's were really horrible in these little guns with no extractors ? So far it has eaten 250 more rounds of the bulk pack of Winchester. I am extremely pleased. No failures at all with the bulk pack of Winchester. I'll clean it and try my CCI's in it.
24. Will the .22 Short cycle the slide ?
25. So the heavier the bullet the more recoil , which would seem that it would be able to cycle the slide more reliably than a lighter bullet ? Is this correct ? I mean mine are 36 grain and it functions very well , but I hear a lot of .22LR guys singing the praises of Aguila ammo. Is this correct ?
