  1. Because the technology isn't there yet. Nuclear and Hydro are still the best options ATM. Any crop we use is going to immediately and severely (in the negative) impact world food supply and prices. You think gas prices are an issue? Just wait. The folks in South America can already tell you about the price of tortilla's. Doesn't sound like a big deal for them, but you figure they make $1 - $5 a day and tortilla's are all they can afford at $2-3 a day.......... not good.
  2. we've never been isolated. Since the before the Revolution we have been intermingled with Europe and to a lesser extent the far east. Some of the products and exchanges have changed but the relationships have been pretty much the same. That being said there was a time when Americans lived more simply and were mostly self sufficient. As our greed and desire for more comfort/service industry has grown, so has our "dependency" on those exchanges. I say "dependency" because if we decided to live a little less service oriented and didn't mind getting dirty we could change the exchange direction back like it was before. When I hear people talk about how both parents have to work to survive and then talk about the 4 cars in the garage, the 3-4 large flat screens, the exotic vacations, the clothes they "need", and the house for 8 when only 4 live in it - It makes me skeptical that we would ever be able to live limiting those "needs".
  3. The guy who started Piggly Wiggly started building it but went bankrupt and the city took it over and made it a museum. It is a mansion made with pink block/brick. Is it still open? as a kid it was pretty neat, but my frame of reference at 8 was pretty limited.
  4. Right now Billy Mays is tryin to work out a deal with God. "Ok God, if you act right now and let me in! I'll throw in absolutley free the OxiClean, the Mighty Puddy, the Mighty Mendit, the Quick Chop, the Awesome Auger, the Dual Saw, and the Jupiter Jack. All for $19.95!!!
  5. I've got a great AR scope combo in the classifieds.

    G17 or XDM9mm?

With the parts availability now for XD's and easily tuned triggers, I'd go with the XDm. In a full size, capacity is a bigger factor to me and I like the XDm there. All things being equal, the 17 just doesn't do anything for me. The XDm however, has all the bells and whistles that sucker me in. On a side note, if I were going with a Glock I'd go with a 19. There are many superior guns to the 17 in the fullsize category, but the 19 has few competetors.
  7. Looks like an integrated barrel/suppressor. I'm not overly impressed with the the .300 whisper for anything other than suppressor use, which is what it's designed for. An underpowered sub sonic .30 round? It is quiet though.
  8. Send a PM to gcrookston. He used to collect Luger's and is very knowledgeable on Lugers and their market value.
  9. Haha, you could just say you were putting it out of it's misery!
  10. If you had been carrying a long rifle (since you can now) you could have taken a nice buck! Of course you would have had to argue he was a threat, but I think you got the proof on that one! Nice!
  11. Nice. I'm no revolver guy but I do like the LCR.

The evil laugh and ensuing tirade at the 2:00 mark is hilarious!

    Future President?

I want to see the video when he finds out he was taped! WOW! The old hide under the sheets and declare invisibility still works it seems! ....... and how did he go from fully clothed to nothing in seconds!
  17. Welcome. I'm in Madison as well.
  18. ...or terrified and sleeping with one eye open. BTW hows your life insurance policy!
  19. Congrats to all above and Bronkers..... nice! I've been counseling folks 100/100 for years and they always look at me like deer in the headlights! Number 9 - July first for me. Dated a year, engaged a year, so 11 all together.

    Gangland

I've seen every episode. I get the reruns overnight at work. The Alaska one was kinda weird. I think maybe they were running out of good material. Good show though!

As long as that's not you in your avatar, you're going to be alright.
  22. A really sad story. Didn't particularly care for the guy or his music but every time I saw a glimpse of him perform on TV I'd have to stop and watch. Anyone who can master a skill like he did is intriguing to me. That being said, how sad to have everything and yet nothing.
  23. I keep hearing that yet it is harder today than it ever was before. Washington did it, Lincoln did it, FDR did it, ...... I'm with you on being alert, but it just isn't happening and nothing even close to what has happened in the past. I will continue to say it is harder now than ever to be hidden away without anyone knowing. Not that it can't be done mind you.
  24. In the pictures I've seen they look huge and unwieldy. Evidently they aren't, but I still don't understand why a bullpup design is not more prevalent ala Tavor, AUG, etc.
