    great day

First off, I'm Glad everyone is ok and hopefully it is a learning experience for both you and your friend. Second, I agree with a couple of the above posters. Gun safety is more then you personally being safe when holding a firearm.  If it's your firearm, it is your responsibility. Your friend should have never be in possession of your loaded firearm.  - End Rant
  2. Get an optic, shoot it stock. Then figure out what you want to upgrade first. Oh, and congrats on the new gun!
  3. I do love some PSA blemished items. Haven't found a blemish on one yet.
  4. He had me right up until he suggested I drink monster energy drink.
  5. PSA recently updated with a little additional info on both the 308 and 1911 over on afr.com: Available sometime during the middle of the year an an affordable price. Your guess is as good as mine as far as what they will list for. My guess is 1000 for the AR10 but 1200 wouldn't surprise me either. Either way, I suspect one of these will be in my safe by the end of the year.    "Our 1911s and 308 will be available sometime during the middle of the year and the price point will be affordable to the everyday, hardworking American like all of PSA's products are! More details will be available once we're closer to release date.  :D" - PalmettoStateArmory
  6. Quick update. My barrel looks fine but there have been some problems reported with one run of the PTAC uppers over on arf.com. Specifically, at least a few people received barrels that had faulty rifling. PSA is accepting returns of the affected uppers and sending out replacements.  Apparently, the uppers still functioned fine although I suspect they could wear out quicker or suffer in the accuracy department. Anyone who orders one of these, check to ensure the rifling looks clean.
  7. 6.8's normally run somewhere between a 1/10 to 1/12 twist with 1/11 being quite common. I believe Noveske barrels have a 1/12. Bison Armory, Stag Arms, and DPMS all have 1/11 twists. A 20 inch barrel would be fine, but the 6.8's are supposed to run very well out of shorter barrels so the 20 may be more then you need. The difference in velocity between a 16 and 20 should be fairly negligible for deer hunting, etc.    Disclaimer: I do not own a 6.8 but have been thinking of buying one for deer and the above info is based on my understanding from the research I have done. My preference would be for a 16inch barrel or even a 14.5 with pinned comp. Someone with personal experience with the round, feel free to chime in.
  8. I haven't had any issues with the Burris rings on my 308. They have held strong and have not marred my scope at all. I did lap them, but I do that will all rings, although it's probably not necessary. They are heavy duty and seem pretty bullet proof. Same thinf for the EGW base. EGW has a pretty good following with the Savage crowd and I'm sure their Remy bases are exactly the same as far as fit and finish/quality, etc.    If you are planning to use it for deer and yotes, you would probably be better off with a variable optic. I have one 4-14 ( one fixed 10 (http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P499.aspx). The fixed 10 has noticeably better glass (clarity/brightness), but I wouldn't want to use it to hunt considering most of my shots are under 100 yards. I would think that rifleman would suit you just fine.    You could also think about getting 30mm rings with 1inch inserts if you are planning to upgrade to a 30mm optic sometime in the future.

    Starter .308?

Dang that's a long post, glad I took the time to read it. Lots of good info, particularly from someone who has experience with each rifle. As someone who is always in the market for different rifles, this was really helpful.

    Starter .308?

Looks like Atlantic Firearms may have some in for 900, http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/ptr-91-gi-rifle-939-atlanticfirearms-com-detail.html?Itemid=0 .    There is also a Cetme listed in the Knoxville Armslist today for 600 if you decide to go that route. http://www.armslist.com/posts/2602054/knoxville-tennessee-rifles-for-sale-trade--cetme--308   Personally, I still recommend a bolt action.
  11. Whats the intended purpose for the rifle? Target? Hunting?   EGW makes a pretty nice one piece rail for cheaper then Larue.I have also been impressed with Burris XTR rings and they are not too pricey.  I would add the base, rings and optic and see what kind of accuracy you are getting before replacing the stock. I have a couple Harris bipods that work great but those Atlas ones are pretty sexy.

    Starter .308?

The low end DPMS 308 rifles sportical/panther are pretty decent and they hold their value well. Check out www.slickguns.com for a few weeks and you can probably find a DPMS for under 900.
  13. I have optics in both a Larue and a PEPR, both qd, on my AR's. Personally, I think the Larue looks better. I like the fact that it's a Larue, but I haven't had any problems with the PEPR. I can't comment on how well it holds up, hold zero on a larger caliber.
  14. I would add a bolt action precision 308 like the Rem 700. Savage also makes great rifles and the accutrigger that comes on some Savage models is going to be better then anything on a Remington. Howa's seem to get pretty good reviews over on SnipersHide as well and come in at a lower price point.  I would also recommend something larger such as an American Bulldog or Staffordshire Terrier to compliment that tactical dachshund.
  15. The Tanfoglio's are considered clones of a gun manufactured by CZ, the CZ75.  A new Tanfoglio Witness goes for around $360-400. Looks like used TZ75's run 300-450 depending on condition. They are generally cheaper then comparable CZ's.    Still waiting on my Witness Match to ship from Buds.
  16. The sporticals are decent rifles. They do not have a forward assist or dust cover which, although probably not necessary, most people prefer. If you go that route, I recommend the Smith and Wesson version which can be had for about the same price. http://grabagun.com/catalog/product/view/id/11888/s/s-w-m-p15-spt-556nato-16-30rd-fld . The S&W's have gotten good reviews.    Personally, I think you would be happier in the long run with a rifle that comes with dust cover and forward assist. PalmettoStateArmory has a great reputation. You may need to buy the upper and lower separate from them but both can be had for about the same price as the Sportical.    Lower $149: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/14434/s/psa-ar-15-complete-blem-lower-classic-edition-no-magazine/ You can get their lowers with BCG for $300-400 if you check the site for a couple weeks. They are sold out of the most popular models at present.    If you are willing to put the lower together yourself, you can get a package for $500. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/2284/s/16-hammer-forged-mid-length-rifle-kit-1/
  17. I have been cable free for about a year. The real downside, as Randy W mentioned, is the lack of sports programming and ESPN. I have Hulu Plus, Netfilx instant and Amazon Prime, although the Amazon was purchased more for the free two day shipping on purchases than the streaming tv service. If you are deciding between Amazon Prime and Netflix, I recommend Netflix as it seems like it provides a greater number of movies and shows. All of my software runs on an Xbox one, but I have also used a Roku 2 and thought it performed well.
  18. My "long range" rig is a Savage FCP and I have been very pleased with it. Savage makes excellent guns right out of the box and the accutrigger's are very good for a stock trigger. Mine shoots MOA with off the shelf match ammo when I do my part.
  19. Pulled the trigger on this one. Should show up next week. I will post some pictures when she arrives.
  20. They have been offering a bunch of deals with the strikefire lately. It is a great optic for the money. I have read a couple of less then positive reviews about the PSA sights though, which is surprising to me. I have been very pleased with everything I have ordered from PSA in the past. I think this deal is worth taking a shot on if you are in the market.
  21. They have been making similar connectors for 10/22's for years. I agree with Brasil stupid law, stupid solution.
  22. That's the first thing that came up with I asked my friend Google what "Desperta Ferro!" meant. Frankly, it sounds delicious.
  23. My invoice number is in the 800's. CC hasn't been charged yet.
  24. I completely understand that logic and honestly I would rather have a CZ 75 Shadow Target from CZ Custom shop than the Tanfoglio WItness Elite Match from Tanfoglio Custom shop. The witness is half the price of a comparable CZ and while not quite as sexy as the CZ, I hope it will end up being a good value.
