  1. This is probably where the line between casual gun owner, and, well...those like us here on TGO lies. Like you say, it's a life-style.
  2. Same stuff we're talking about in this thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/97396-90-of-americans/?page=1 Basically, it comes down to whether you believe background checks are "gun control." The media is spotty of defining it as such, and loves to tout that "90%" figure since it seems a better statistic, but the 50/47 answer is more telling about how divided the country is on guns.
  3. In that case... An AR. I'm going to use the limit of technicalities and count the lower receiver as my one gun, swapping my SBR and 16" uppers as needed. It's not cheating from your "one gun" guidelines since that's what the different uppers are used for. A .300BLK upper with a suppressor would be nice too, but since I don't have one yet, I'll limit myself to what I can grab from the closet and roll with at the moment.
  4. Probably a Glock 17 or 19. I originally thought some variant of an AR, but as was mentioned, can't conceal a rifle. Unless we're talking about a massive shift in society, a good pistol that will last a while is the best all around weapon if I'm limited to one, IMO.
  5. They may have guns, carry permits, and the like, but I would think that LBGT as a demographic are less likely to make carrying a daily habit like most of us here. At least that's the vibe I get from those I have conversations with.
  6. Very well written opinion piece. Many salient points all over. The Pink Pistols have seen their membership spike, and I hope it keeps growing. I'm sorry it had to be an event Orlando that gets the LBGT community to have a serious conversation about this, but hopefully it will come to something.
  7. Getting an HCP is one thing. It's a start, but also an end for a lot of people. Carrying everyday, everywhere you can, and caring about gun rights like we do is another matter entirely.
  8. If he was going to issue any more executive orders that meant anything, he would have done it by now. And even if he had anything left up his sleeve, he's also not going to do anything to steal the thunder of Hillary's campaign by making any real progress on an issue she'll campaign on.
  9. Which baffles me. If I were in Washington, I'd be making any background check bills tied into removing items from NFA laws, or getting rid of the $200 tax stamp, or other stuff.
  10. Aimpoint PRO is probably going on my next upper. I'm hard pressed to find another optic that can check every box it does at the current prices.
  11. BCBS had offers WAY below CIGNA and the others ones in the ACA Marketplace. Not sure if they were hoping people just didn't use the services like they did, or the .gov teat would subsidize their losses, but the rate increase request being this big seems to be them admitting their strategy the first few years didn't work out. More discussion here: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/91913-obamacare-rate-increase/?page=4
  12. I had a friend tell me it's a lot heavier than is optimal for an optic that size on an AR as well. Not sure if that's because it needed to be "rugged" or just the materials chosen.
  13. If I had to guess, the primary reason is because the court isn't at nine members, and that's not just for gun cases, since the court is taking cases at a slower pace overall recently. Secondary reasons could be waiting for the public debate to die down, as John Roberts doesn't want the court to take up an issue being debated in Congress. The case in the 4th Circuit about Maryland's ban could also be making him wait to see if there is a split in circuit opinions that would make taking the cases more of an interpretive, or two circuit rulings one way that don't justify taking a case absent certiorari .
  14. You guys are assuming there has to be registry to enforce this, but there doesn't. Using the 4473, where the background check has to be recorded, along with the serial number all the info is there, but doesn't need to be handed over to the government for a registry. That covers each purchase/transfer for 20 years, and still keeps it out of the governments hands unless an investigation is in progress. The gun owner should get a copy of the completed 4473 to have as well for their records to prove the gun was purchased/transferred after a background check.
  15. Universal background checks, and a National Gun Register Database are two separate issues. You don't have to have one to have the other. Also, I don't think most of us would be comfortable with how many Americans would say yes to that question either as you wrote it. Even I'm not 100% opposed to a registry, Though politically, I wouldn't agree to it without concessions elsewhere such as reducing the burden of the NFA process.
  16. I think that the politics is an important part of TGO, and I know I'd find myself logging into TGO less if it was gone. I come here with the intent on seeing differing opinions, and a place like this, where the argument is much more thought out than elsewhere is a huge bonus to me. We debate with passion, but I think it's better for the site as a whole. It's also worth noting, that we probably have a higher percentage among our membership than the population at large that is politically engaged, it being a natural inclination for gun owners and all. As to the proportion of general politics to gun chat...I know for myself, there is only so much to talk about with guns or gun related issues. If I get more than one new gun a year, it's been a spending spree, and as a college student, I don't have the recurring income to hit the range or take any classes with the frequency I might wish. Plus, when it comes to the gun content, I find myself reading more and posting less, since my knowledge is paltry compared to others on things like relics, and any other gun style besides the AR, which I'm knowledgeable enough to comment on. Politics, Legal Issues, and General Chat give me a chance to participate more. So, I think we should keep non-gun related areas. If nothing else, it lets "the regulars" here engage in conversation and serves as another way to build a sense of community here.
  17. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/06/20/this-was-30-minutes-of-hell-for-this-young-lady-unaccompanied-minor-groped-on-flight/ Heads, walls, spikes...metaphorically of course. The pedo's for sure, and probably the crew for missing what is about the biggest red alert klaxon of a warning sign that this guy was a sicko. Traveling on a plane alone is something you need to prepare a kid for. That girl should have been screaming and swinging...her parents seem to have failed her there, IMO.
  18. How dialed in do you want to be out to 250? If close range (<50yds) is a higher priority, I'd be looking at red dots more than scopes.
  19. If OnTarget and Outpost Armory in Murfreesboro are sold out of AR's, we're in the middle of a panic buy I somehow can't see. There were plenty of AR's at OnTarget on Friday afternoon...though I'm not sure of the prices.
  20. This isn't a one side or the other poll, the questions were inside the national Quinnipiac poll that addressed a whole bunch of issues. They're a neutral arbiter in these things. Sampling is always the best you can get, and I think they made a good effort to get a wide cross section of opinion when they took this poll (it was from 2014). From June 24 - 30, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,446 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of +/- 2.6 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado and the nation as a public service and for research. And if you look at the questions, the 90% figure is for background checks for all purchases, which a lot of people don't see as "gun control regulation," myself included to give you someone you know (well, internet know anyway) who supports it. The "stricter gun control" question was split 50/47/3 which is a tie with the margin of error included. This poll wasn't manipulated, it's the reporting on it that is questionable...ie: the media doesn't go in depth about the split on "stricter gun control."

  22. Whenever I hear it, it's in reference to the polling numbers that support universal background checks. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/211321-poll-most-gun-owners-support-universal-background-checks
  23. I'm going to keep an eye out on the listings for more than just my tastes. Being able to pick up a pair of free tickets easy will make good gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, things like that.
  24. I can't recall exactly when, but once upon a time, the "is this real" question stopped being my first thought when it comes to government doing things like this.

I apparently have six discount codes, and six free ticket codes I can use before June 18th 2020 in the vouchers section on my account.
