There is an old tale (not sure if it's true, or just rumor) that when Chesty Puller was watching a flamethrower being tested he asked "where do you put the bayonet?" Some people just like having them is all. :P And there isn't anything wrong with that.

Damn good point to consider in these days of data usage limits. Especially if people have kids who stream or play video games a good bit.

I didn't fail to miss that salient detail during my six years living in Muslim countries, both in and out of uniform. If nothing else, being reminded that eating, drinking, or even chewing gum in public during Ramadan was a jailable offense hammered it home. What I was talking about in that reply, was that in the 60s, the fighting between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland was a political fight, not a religious one.

It could have been a week, it could have been a day, who knows. Maybe the kids were given the worksheet and told use a textbook, a handout, or just Google the answers. As to kinds learning the differences between Protestants and Catholics, it would make sense if that was covered in the discussion of the Reformation in whatever History class that was put under. Comparing the conflict in Middle East to The Troubles is apples to oranges. Northern Ireland was a political fight where religious affiliation pretty much aligned with politics, so that angle was present, but it wasn't the root cause when things got hot in the 60s.

That explains why it was about Trump. [emoji3] Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk, because I felt that Oh Shoot wanted to know that particular bit of information.

Wrong thread maybe?

I stay away from a fixed percentage when tipping, because then the gal working at a small time place is at a severe disadvantage to the one at a fancy Italian joint. In my mind, they are both working hard, and putting in an honest day. I do have a floor of 15% as a minimum. What I use as a rule of thumb is making the gratuity for equaling a decent hours wage for the server. I pretty much just add whatever I felt would make a good hours pay onto the $2.13 that is required. So, even on a cheap meal at Waffle House or the lunch special at a Mexican restaurant, I'm adding $5 even though the check was somewhere around $10, and I was in-and-out after only about 20-30 min.

One of the evils of our society. Thanks for the info.

Are pizza delivery drivers on regular, or tipped wages?

"British Imperial" wasn't a thing until it was standardized in 1824 by the Weights and Measures Acts. After the Revolution, our system was closer to the English model than it was different. We do have German quality beer here, just go to a store that sells imports. ;) Not for nothing, one of the most important founders wanted us to have something metric'ish... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_for_Establishing_Uniformity_in_the_Coinage,_Weights,_and_Measures_of_the_United_States

The Shia/Sunni divide is one of the underlining causes of the region being a powder keg, and is important when you learn about ISIS, and why they have achieved as much as they have. It's relevant as history, and current world events, both things kids should be learning.

What, pray tell, was that reason?

Bill could make parents responsible for kids finding guns
btq96r replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
All that and you can't teach her that mum's the word on telling any of it to someone outside the family? I agree with you that this isn't going to become law for the reasons you mention, I'm just not opposed to it as it's written. -
Because it was the Reagan administration where Wall Street took off as a % of GDP higher than in normally stable years, and now we're living in the world where the investment banks are driving the economy, and have to post higher and higher profits just to survive since steady isn't sexy anymore. That was the real effect of "we're going to turn the bull loose." I get why he did it, US manufacturing wasn't keeping the dollar strong (just like it isn't today), and every President after him has been beholden to it, with the free trade agenda making the problem even worse. But now we're in a drug addict like cycle of needing high profits out of the financial sector, where the numbers are as much fantasy as reality, same as an addict needs higher amounts of drugs to get their next high. Makes me think of this cartoon.

Or the aftereffects of Reaganomics which made companies focus on quarterly returns and short term stock prices instead of long term customer satisfaction through a quality product.

I was just thinking someone would come in here and try to tie this to liberal policies. Like Pete eluded to, this is just companies putting smart people to the task of turning $1 into $1.10.

It's fair to assume that the case and its contents have been separated. So, knowing what was in there would help in the recovery. Also, if it is a government owned long gun, getting the info out there will make any thief or the person who bought it from a thief a bit more nervous about holding onto it.

Bill could make parents responsible for kids finding guns

Maybe it's time we actually read the bill in question...just a thought. It's actually not overly complicated legislation. http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB2058&ga=109 The term gun safe is pretty wide open to interpretation, but that's about the only questionable item I can see in this. Basically, if you aren't in the room, you can't have a gun and ammo lying about if there is a kid under 13 present. The terms "reckless" and "in plain view" seem to negate the crazier scenario's here. The age of 13 is specific enough to not interfere with hunting and other family gun stuff as well. I wouldn't consider a kid ready to be left unsupervised with guns and ammo before that age anyway. Also key are the words in the penalties part where the child has to actually obtain possession of a gun to trigger (no pun intended) the misdemeanor or felony charges. Unless I'm missing something, I have no problem with this bill as I see it. I'd want to see the final copy to come out of committee, but I'm not getting any red flags. -
My postman sucks as well. If it can be wedged and in any way stuffed into my mailbox out by the street, it's going to be. One time, he all but folded the edge of an oversized envelope to get it into the mailbox. All that was in there was a replacement copy of my Honorable Discharge certificate that I wanted to frame for display, which pissed me off. I filed a complaint on that one. If I could, I'd put a lock on the mailbox, and cut a slit just wide enough for letters, requiring him to walk anything bigger to the front door. But, since I rent, and my mailbox is inside a brick thing, I'm SOL. Best believe I'll make that change when I actually buy a house. Until then, I can just smile when I have a USPS package waiting at my door because it meant he had to get out of his truck and walk 20 feet.

So gracious in victory. :)

I'd imagine that Trump and Cruz are splitting some votes as well, as Trump and Cruz are closer ideologically than Cruz and Rubio. Cruz going down would put Trump over the top I think, by virtue of his immigration stance being a lot more harsh than Rubio's history on the subject. The best case scenario for Rubio is Trump and Cruz keep bashing each other and bleed away supporters by looking completely unreasonable while he stays even keel, and wins enough primaries to take control. If his head-to-head numbers against Hillary stay steady, expect him to keep that argument going as well. I want to see how Super Tuesday and the mid-March primaries shake out, but I'm feeling like the Republicans are feeling like a brokered convention is a real possibility.
-
That before or after it would become a heated series of arguments about who can beat Hillary, what candidate is really conservative enough, and how supporting an independent is "throwing away" a vote? Just saying the TGO caucus would have it's own issues to work out.

No Gun Signs Coming Down at Legislative Plaza
btq96r replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
For me, a decent parallel comes back to that thread we had a while ago about do you tell someone if you bring a gun into their home. Acknowledging the differences in business vs. residential properties...I still use that line of thinking I had in that thread. I either have a persons permission up front, or I don't, and if they expressly tell me they don't want me to (which is what the posting does in this case), I respect that.
