You know, I just can't disagree more. I have no idea what needs to be tuned all the time. If you are talking about the extractor, just get an aftec and change the springs every 4-5k and that is all you'll ever need to do.

I had always read that too, but knew that it was not the case. Heck Bill Wilson built his career/company on his reputation of building tight and utterly reliable guns for IPSC in the 80's. (When he was building guns that is) I started to do some research on the subject as far as the mil-spec guns and wrote this for our 1911 social group forum. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/50777-“jmb-designed-the-1911-to-be-loosesloppy-so-it-was-reliable/#entry792278 The truth as I see it: A "loose" gun can be accurate and reliable or inaccurate and un reliable.....depending A "tight" gun can be accurate and reliable or inaccurate and un reliable........depending

I shoot and build a lot of poly 1911's. Mostly of the double wide mag sort and are called a 2011. So, they use all the same parts/specs as a regular 1911 except when it comes to the parts related to the mag (mag release, trigger bow etc..). Like the RRA poly, these guns are lighter but only a by a little. The RRA 1911 is 4-6 ounces lighter than other 5" all steel guns depending on sights used etc..... The shooting characteristics of a poly grip 1911 is very interesting compared to a all steel gun. IMO, the poly actually (as you can imagine) has some give in it, and will flex a bit, and therefore seems to shoot shoots softer. An aluminum gun has less weight, but still has the rigidity and so will actually be a little more violent to shoot. I really like shooting the poly guns.

No, you can get them in most calibers. 9, 40, 38S etc....

Just finished this one........
timcalhoun replied to timcalhoun's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
No, it's still in white. Just bead blasted bare steel. It will get hard chromed though. -
It started off as a long dust cover. I cut it off and milled in the rail, and tried some new serrations...... 40 cal BTW.

I shoot them not matter how pretty. Maybe not as much though...LOL My dad is more of a collector than a shooter and he has some beautiful guns. It is so hard for me to buy anything collectable, although I do badly want a ww2 era 1911 that is in excellent shape. It is just so hard for me to actually put up the money for something I will not use. I'm hoping someday my wife will get me one as a gift so I will not actually right the check. LOL

Yep, just west of town about 20 minutes. Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Tim

Yep, I was there trying to get in shape to shoot single stack at the TN state match. I must say shooting 8 round mags at a steel match is a little crazy but a good lesson on sight patience. You are shooting really well BTW. Hope to see you this weekend. Tim

Nice video. You might want to think about getting rid of the scoop you are doing on the draw. It is costing you time. The gun is coming out of the holster up then down and then back up to the target. You are even doing it after the reload. Maybe it's because you are wanting to bring the FS up to the target? You might want to try going straight to the target as if you are stabbing it. FWIW

Even if the lube is right,Titegroup will smoke with lead. It's very hot burning. WST is by far the best powder to reduce smoke that I have found. You will not be disappointed.

Steel = fun, challenging and potentially a very humbling experience. Thanks for the match and all the hard work. -
Look at what Tim Calhoun gunsmithing did to my M & P!
timcalhoun replied to RWF's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have not done those type of cuts to a glock, but it would be pretty much the same deal. We are only limited by our imaginations as to what we can do. I would be happy to dress one up for you. Tim -
Something a little different.....

That's right, I forgot about that. No sense in having a useless, ugly, empty dovetail just sitting there. -

I only did the slide cuts for the open gun. -
I saw the kilt, but didn't know who it was.

I'm not sure what he kept in it. I imagine he might have went lower but I don't know for sure. Tim

SEMPER FI! The Marines Bring Back An Old Warhorse!!!
timcalhoun replied to Moped's topic in Handguns
Do they just take them right out of the box and go fight with them, or do they shoot and train with them first? -
Just finished this slide. It's a new top end in 40. The gun will now have a top end in both 40 and 45.

Congrats on the SIG Sniper23!!!
