  1. Mace:_____________ I have a Glock 33 that I EDC carry in an Allen Miller Kydex pocket holster. The glock 33 and the 357 sig is a great cartridge/pistol combination. Mine is extremely accurate and reliable. We have worked up handloads that chronograph an honest 1275FPS out of this little pistol (...3.1 inch barrel...) using 124 grain JHC's. It is no problem to hit the 8 inch diameter rounds that the action pistol shooters shoot at 25 to 30 yards with great regularity in aimed fire. I have fired 300 to 400 rounds of these handloads thru this little cannon with no failures to feed. Recoil is brisk; not any more unmanageable than full house 45 ACP rounds in a 1911. Now that that the ammo situation is loosening up; ammo should be no problem. I heartily recommend the 357 sig. It is everything that was claimed for the 9mm in the early eighties. I like it because it will honestly duplicate the ballistics of a 357 mag (...125 grain bullet...) in an extremely small package. Hope this helps Kind regards, Leroy
  2. Roland S. Martin is a history revisionist with an agenda to advance. That agenda is that anyone who opposes the Oligarchy (...the federal government...) is a traitor and terrorist. He follows the lead of another great communicator --- a fellow by the name of Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels lied for "Der Furhr" just like Roland S. Martin is lying for the radical hippy idiots that are striving to re-write the history of the United States. Roland S. Martin would have us believe that over half of the officer corps of the prewar US Army who followed their consciences; who graduated the USMA, served honorably prior to 1861; then resigned their commissions to join the Confederate Army (...men like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart, and others...) are terrorists --- baloney --- they were (...and still are...) patriots. Don't worry about what Roland S. Martin has to say; he is a political hack. History will not remember Roland S. Martin. It has remembered and honored those that he has shamelessly lied about and slandered. Food for thought. Leroy
  3. Dear fellow TGO folks:____________ I am thinking about purchasing another pocket type pistol with plenty of punch to provide a "sunday go to meeting" pistol to allow my Glock 33 to rest. I like the single stacks; either a Walther PPS or Kahr PM series pocket gun. My questions for you all to ponder are these: Which caliber in your collective experience is the most inherently accurate (...dont worry about the discussion of controlability; i understand that one...)? How accurate is the load you like? What factory self-defense loads do you like? What handloads do you use for practice? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Leroy
  4. Great advice. In earlier times, back into the 60's it was well known and accepted that the shortest barrel length for RELIABLE operation on the 1911 was the "commander Length" or 4.25 inch barrel length (...that's why Colt only made two barrel lengths then; 5 and 4.25...). There were several enterprising attempts to cut the 1911 back further, but for the most part, they were failures due to poor reliability. That being said, there have been great advances in the manufacture and engineering of these new, short (...3 inch length...) 1911's. I suspect that the newer ones by folks like Kimber, SW, Springfield, STI (...and others...) are plenty reliable because of these advances. My problem with them is that they lose sight radius (...an important part of the handgun shooting equation...), bullet velocity, and (...as some have said...) reliability as the barrel gets shorter. I like the 4 to 4.25 inch barrel for a "compact" 1911. In spite of what some folks say, a 45ACP is a powerful handgun with a pretty good recoil. It takes a fair amount of practice to shoot one proficiently. The fact is, that anyone can do it; but it takes some practice and getting used to get proficient with it. I suspect that the 9 mm would work better in the shorter barrel lengths. The proficiency curve would also be better due to the lower recoil on the 9 mm. By the way, it has been my experience that barrel length has no appreciable affect on accuracy (...from the mechanical perspective...). From the shooter perspective, the effect is large. It takes much more practice to shoot well with a short barreled pistol. You simply have to hold closer to do it; and that takes more practice. Hope this helps Kind regards, Leroy
  5. John:___________ Nice lower start. Have you seen this: Rainier Arms, LLCâ„¢ | Manufacturer . Stark pistol grip. Put one on my last lower. I like the integral trigger guard and the bigger grip. Kind regards, Leroy
  6. Amen brother!! Very wise post, indeed!!! PS--- MORE NEWS. CHECK THIS OUT: http://www.gallup.com/poll/127262/Democratic-Party-Image-Drops-Record-Low.aspx#1 Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Leroy
  7. This may give some interesting perspective: Freikorps - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is not a real good summary of the Freikorps; but you can get the general idea from reading it. The Freikorps was essentially a group of militias with muscle. I believe the Freikorps idea and organization was much closer to the idea of being put out with all government (...state, local, federal...) plus extreme nationalism. Bad economic times tend to breed problems everywhere. Germany after WW1 was an economically devastated country (....Marshall Foch, the great French WW1 general predicted that the economic reprisals taken against Germany would result in another war in 20 years. Naturally, the politicians didn't heed his admonitions when they piled the punishments on to Germany after WW1 in the Versailles Treaty (...Which the idiotic Woodrow Wilson agreed to to get the "great" League of Nations...) -- he missed the WW2 war date by about 6 months....). It is well worth the time to read closely about what happened in Europe at the end of WW1 from an economic and historical perspective; especially in Germany. Check this picture out: I love the death's head!! Food for thought. Leroy
  8. All:_____________ Interesting read. In the Cleveland Plain Dealer no less!!! Kevin O'Brien: Who's afraid of a little Tea Party? Everyone, fortunately | - Opinions, Editorials, Letters and Columns from The Plain Dealer - cleveland.com Here's the "great quote": I heartily agree!! Keep up the good work! Leroy
  9. Amen brother!! What a great thought!!! I salute your insight!1 Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Leroy
  10. They MAY fly right at the edge of the day/nite horizon; OR just warp it up so fast ya cant see them in the day. They MAY also turn on their "invisibility cloaking device" so ya cant see 'em. They MAY actually drag the nite around with them. Kind makes ya wonder doesn't it!!? Leroy
  11. All: _____________ Got a solution to this whole nuclear proliferation thing. I propose that we sell one old model hydrogen bomb (…might help lower the debt…) to every bonafied nation that doesn’t have one. That will end the nuclear race and make sure that everyone has one. We can do one more atmospheric nuclear test, and get everyone up close so they can see the blast, feel the heat, and view the destruction first hand. We could also do a worldwide TV feed to every nation and make sure the individual citizens watch. We can then show them how to arm the bomb and send it to each new "nuclear" nation. Just before each representative leaves this country, we will tell him (...her, or it...) that they are personally and corporately responsible for their individual bomb. We can further state that in the event that a bomb goes off on American soil (...or the soil of our allies...); that we will re-count the bombs and punish the guilty with some real, modern bombs. No questions asked, no appeals, no "I lost it", no “terrorists stole it", no nothing, no excuses -- period. Of course we would never do this; but it's great to think about. This country is under the curse of stupidity. It seems that it is impossible for us to do anything right. Food for thought. Leroy PS--- Nobama is a cynical deluded little man in a great big job. He has nuts advising him. He craves adulation and worship from the world. This is simply another way to get more accolades from his socialist buddies over in Europe. After all, he is the “smartest guy in the room”.
  12. Yeah, I believe in them. They got the crafts stored at Area 51. A few select earthlings fly them around the whole world at nite. The alien pilots are in the "big secured underground supersecret chambers" at Wright-Patterson AFB. They been there since 1947. PS--- got me tinfoil hat on. Waiting on them to make contact!!! Leroy
  13. Dear TNT:______________ You have posed a thoughtful and important question for all who value the blessings of liberty to think deeply upon. I never believe that the news media (...there are a few exceptions...) will report objectively and truthfully on any political liberty issue. That makes it hard to read about them. You have to hunt for them. That being said; here is how I would judge any real political victories for those who value liberty and are grieved at the losses. Here goes the test: 1. Does the issue or action increase individual liberty; or does it simply lessen the limits already placed on an activity? A great issue here is the Second Amendment. Do not be deceived, the handgun carry permit issue (...which we see as a good thing...) is a restraint to what the Second Amendment originally said; not a restoration of a right that is in the Bill of Rights. 2. Does the action shrink the size of government or lessen regulation of some activity? 3. Does the action increase your ability to use your own private property the way you choose? 4. Does the action allow increased freedom in business, financial affairs, etc? When you apply these little questions to actions and decisions taken by government (...both Federal and State...); you will see a constant eroding of freedoms at the Federal level perpetrated by both Dem and Republicans and a push back at the state level. I sincerely believe that we are again at the exact juncture in history that the state and federal governments were on the eve of the Civil War. The Federal Government is moving to tighten its power and the states are pushing back. I don’t believe that this means that another civil war is coming; I do believe that a showdown of sorts is coming between the states and the federal government. This show down will happen in the state legislatures and the courts if the federal government continues on its present course. That being said; I'm not sure that things will continue as they have because there are some great signs of change at the grass roots level in the "Real America" (...the America that pays taxes, works, etc; as opposed to the "socialist america" that is on the dole and is clamoring for more entitlements...). It may even start to correct its course in the 2012 elections if the Republicans win big (...which I think they will...). I believe, as 1gewehr does that there have been some victories; but they happened several years ago as his post says here: I believe, as he does, that this hard left socialist agenda will be countered in the next election. Carter failed miserably and said bad things about America. He was thrown out in a landslide by Reagan, the last real republican president of modern times (...to date...). I believe that most folks who value liberty hold both the Dems and Republicans in contempt at this juncture in history. The fact is, that the republicans are just as guilty as democrats for allowing a socialist hack like Barak Obama to become president by running a weak RINO Republican like McCain (... who I admire on a personal basis for his courage and military service; but detest because of his autocratic, nutty political stands...). The fact is, that there is a sobering message to both political parties moving thru the "Real America" (... the one that works and pays taxes...). That message is that both parties had better move to increase freedoms, stop the anti-capitalist regulation, limit the size and power of government, shrink the size of government, stop the give-away of entitlements and dollars, and quit borrowing money we don’t have; or both parties will be swept away and marginalized by those that do believe in those values. That's how I see things this morning. Thanks for asking such a great question! Kind regards, Leroy
  14. Crimson:___________ You may want to take a look at this series of posts: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/hunting/28242-black-powder-revolver-question-2.html#post372347 Mike has covered a bunch of good info. We have used most all the variations on the old open top colts. I like the 51 navies the best. They are period correct and are about the same heft as the colt saa. We used Uberti or Cimarron (...same stuff...). You may want to take a look here too: Buffalo Arms Company - We sell Swiss - Schuetzen Black Powder, Cowboy Guns, Buffalo Guns - over 7,000 Items! as well as Dixie Gun works. They are both great to do business with. The biggest problem with all the percussion pistols is getting them to work every time and be fun to shoot. It usually takes some tinkering with the action (... no big deal, just smooth up the parts...), and getting the right cap and nipple combination. The big problem we had with all the black powder stuff was mating the right caps to the right nipples (...we always wound up changing ours to get a good fit...). And getting the spent caps to fall off the nipples after each round was shot. Most guys just raise the pistol muzzle up as they re-cock after each shot and the spent caps will fall off. The other big hitter is cleaning BEFORE AND AFTER SHOOTING. Before you ever shoot a black powder gun, make sure you wipe all the petroleum based oils out of the bore and cylinder. I always swabbed them down with denatured alcohol to clean out ALL the oils. Petroleum based oils turn into a tar like fouling really quickly and is almost impossible to clean out. We also used a mixture of windex (without ammonia), hydrogen peroxide solution(...the one you buy in the first aid section at Wal-Mart or the drug store...), and water in equal parts (... check the North-South Skirmishers web page for cleaning recipes....) to clean down the barrel and cylinder after shooting. Lots of folks just use hot, soapy water. It works just as well. We always lubed the pistols after cleaning with either a synthetic oil (...remember no petroleum based oils...) or Balistoil (...a water soluble vegetable type oil...). All of them work really well. We always used real black powder in our pistols. Lots of white smoke and a great, throaty "KABOOM". They are a great thing. Have fun. Lind regards, Leroy
  15. Looks to me like Mr. Horn is sending a message to all who are smart enough to listen and learn. That message: ..."Hoodlums, don’t come here to steal, pillage, and rob."... . It's laughable that a bunch of Socialist Trash like the Black Panthers are whining about this. They have a long history or advocating the violent overthrow of what they don’t like about society. I'm old enough to remember the "great" Malcolm X. Here is what he has to say about America: Read more about him here: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Malcolm_X Malcolm X is laying in the graveyard today, killed by his own "non-violent" brothers. Another legacy of militant socialism in the sixties. Read more here: http://www.criticalreading.com/malcolm.htm The truth is that Malcolm X own no count followers murdered him. I'm sure the "new" Black Panthers are a rehash of the old trash. They have no moral authority to make pronouncements on justice --- they have a history of murdering those they disagree with. If the great State of Texas has a problem with what Mr. Joe Horn did, they will bring him before a Grand Jury and start the proceedings (...which they did, and issued a No True Bill...). That's how I see things this morning. Leroy
  16. Way to go doc!! Dont let them socialist weeenies push ya around! I'm sorry its too far to commute to Mount Dora so i can use him as a doctor!! Kep up the good work! Leroy
  17. To all students of history (...fantasy and fact...). Long ago (... in ancient times, I believe...), some great scholar said: "...History is written by the victors. ..." Looks like the "victors" finally wrested control of the Texas schoolbooks from the socialist flotsam and jetsam that have controlled it for a long time. I say it's a good thing. By the way, FDR was a socialist and TR is one of my heroes, no matter what they say about him (... you know, he was the first conservationist (... not a hippy earth worshiper--HEHEHE...)). By the way, while I’m on the subject, Joe McCarthy wasn’t all wrong. There were, and still are plenty of commies in government. Our buddy, Mark@Sea, hit the nail on the head here: I say to all, keep up the good work. Follow the example in Texas and throw this Bolshevik Trash out of academia and the rest of government. Real people of Texas, we applaud your actions!!! Kind regards, Leroy
  18. Dear fellow TGO forum folks and AR reloaders (...and shooters....):________ I'ts time to load up a few hundred more AR rounds for my HBAR Carbine. I have a couple of questions to present to you all: Do you believe there is any substantial accuracy difference between flat base and boat tail bullets out to about 300 yards? What loads do you like with military brass? What 68 grain loads do you like? I intend to load some 68 grainers and need opinions on bullets and powder for these loads. My carbine has a one in nine (...1 in 9...) twist barrel. Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Leroy
  19. I like it!! Dr. Matthew Walker, MD was obviously a great man. What a neat peice of history!! Kind regards, Leroy
  20. Thanks Dolomite. I appreciate it. I tend to fiddle with stuff, and always take the parts apart and stone them smooth or polish them. I make sure everything is smooth and lube the mating surfaces with a synthetic grease. This particular trigger (...standard gi part...) had a large acount of first stage travel before the trigger broke. I think it was that the trigger was at the absolute upper end of the machining tolerance for the part. Thanks for the info. Kind regards, Leroy
  21. Cimmaron is made by Uberti (...and others, i think... for rifles...). Cimmarons tend to have a bit better finish. As other posters have said, Uberti is an Italian company. My experience with them is several years old and with percussion pistols. Dragoons, colt navies, and Remington 1858's. They are a very good product. The fit and finish of all the Cimmarons i have handled (... which includes both percussion and cartridge revolvers...) is excellent. That being said, the main problem with all the percussion type revolvers is the need to fool with them to get them right. We worked on the internals, slicking them up; and the nipples to get the caps to fit the way they need to fit to hold them on and drop off the nipples after firing like they should. It generally takes some tweaking to get them right. Once they are right, they are great. I suspect that the only thing you need to do with the cartridge revolvers is to slick them up a bit. I think they are a great value for both percussion and cartridge revolver use if you find the caliber and barrel length you like. Hiope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy
  22. This post contains a great truth. It has been exactly my experience as well. In the old days before that tactical revolution it was well known that the best mounts for the hard kickers were weavers. They invented the cross bar type mount that the tacticool guys now call a Picatinny rail . Hope this helps, Kind regards, Leroy
  23. Harry is a chump, a fool, a collectivist, or a history revisionist. The fact is that the earliest settlers in what is now east Tennessee were well armed, indeed; and were not subject to "reasonable controls on firearms". They kept them handy and knew how to use them. Harry may not have learned this in school, but a bunch of early east Tennessee settlers marched across the mountain with a fellow by the name of John Sevier and met a bunch of British loyalist thugs who had been terrorizing their neighbors at a place called King's Mountain. A battle ensued there in which these loyalist thugs were dispatched like the vermin they were; along with a career British officer named Patrick Ferguson. Ferguson, a Scotsman, had sent word across the mountain that he and his loyalist buddies were going to march across the mountain, ravish the women, burn the crops, and finish the lives of the mountain settlers there because they had the backbone to want to be free. In the ensuing battle, Ferguson was riddled with shot and killed. After the battle, these "overmountain" men gathered, peed on Ferguson's corpse, buried him, and returned home. What was left of the loyalists ran away. A few weeks later, the British met these same "overmountain" men and a piece of the colonial army at a place named Cow Pens and that finished the American Revolutionary War in the south. If we followed Harry's lead, we would be speaking German now. The British would have won the Revolutionary War, we would have been serfs to the British Empire, the Kiser would have won WWI and his son, Hitler, would have initiated the "Thousand Year Reich". I say Harry and people like him are foolish if they think gun control has done anything for this country other than to hurt it. As the old Scotsman so famously said:"...the heeel with Harry and people like him!!....". Thus endeth the lesson!! Leroy
  24. For a custom holster of any type, i really like these guys: Andrews Custom Leather. They are great to do business with. I also like these guys for kydex: https://www.sidearmor.com/. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy
