Cheers for Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN)
leroy replied to midtennchip's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm old enough to remember when this was exactly as AR has posted. The main difference between Republicans and Democrats was their approach to solving fiscal problems and the issue of the "meddling" of government into the private sector. That was before 1960. Since the sixties, the Democrat Party has become increasingly "balkanized" by socialists, radical anti-capitalists, Stalinists, and all the other stripes of anarchist hippy political trash that flowered in the sixties. In the old days; these clowns would have never been elected to ANY political party (…except the Communist Party…). That, however, is not the case today. These people have finally took a bath, got a haircut, gone to school, and wound up in politics. These people were the outliers of society (… I think they still are today; for the most part…) and were, as the old Soviets would say “Enemies of the State”. The fact is that these people continue to be activists and are enemies of the principles that this country was founded on as outlined in the Constitution. They are seeking to forever change the “Immutable Principles” on which this country (...and, western society…) was founded. This activism has the goal of creating a “workers paradise”, (...or socialist utopia…) where government runs everything and the great phrase “... from each according to his abilities; to each according to his need...” is practiced (...and enforced with the point of a gun and bayonet...); with them (...of course…) at the head. After all, they are the “best and smartest”; and know what is good for us all. The words that this bunch are using now are the same words that were used in the Bolshevik Revolution that sold Russia in to a communist grip of slavery that took over 60 million lives. What you are seeing today within the Democrat Party is a re-hash of what was preached in the American attempts at Bolshelvism (...the one "Big Union" philosophy...) by the "Reds" in the labor movement from about 1910 thru 1930 (... when Roosevelt legitimized some of their activities...) and what you heard in the sixties. I am old enough to have stepped over some of this trash when I was going to school at UT in the sixties. In retrospect, I should have stepped on them. As the democrat party is currently constituted; I believe that it is impossible to be rescued by any well meaning ‘Blue Dog’ democrat movement. There are simply not enough of them. The battle is over, and the hippies have won. They will continue to win as long as the rustbelt states, the northeast, and the left coast remain as they are today. By the same token, it is foolish for the currently constituted republican party to try to be like the democrats as the ‘moderate republicans” tried to do in the last presidential election. That, too, is a recipe for disaster; as we have all learned. Both the democrat party and the “moderate republican” factions of the Republican Party need to be thrown out and moved to the scrapheap of history. If we don’t, we will continue to have what we have now, until we have no freedoms left and government is the source of everything (...sadly, in many peoples minds; it almost is now!!...). I say let the Democrats and the “moderate Republicans” die and another take their place. It is the only chance for both parties and us as citizens. Food for thought. Keep up the good work!! Kind regards Leroy -
Remember this one thing. At this juncture in history, you can’t live with a "conservative democrat". The reason is that the physical makeup of congress is determined by a simple democrat or republican majority. That means that one democrat or one republican can shift the whole complexion of congress. That's why votes mean things. The reelection Lincoln Davis and other "conservative or blue dog democrats" has allowed Nancy Pelosi to become the Speaker of the House. The Speaker controls the political agenda for the House. That's why you have what you have now. Lots of people are repulsed by what they perceive as "bitterly partisan' politics. It’s a bad idea to adopt the "why don’t we all just get along" philosophy because of what I am opining about now. Politics, at its core, is a winner takes all proposition. The Demorats are demonstrating to the country and their political enemies (...and they do see us as the enemy...) just how this works. Modern Republicans have for the past few congressional sessions, been far too kind and reasonable for their own good. This kindness all culminated in the running of a weak RINO Republican -- John McCain (... who I happen to like on a personal basis; not a political one...) against a demorat unknown-- Barak Obama--; who whipped the Clintons with the help of the Kennedy dynasty (... now, thankfully laid in the grave...). That election has given us the most heinous bunch of socialist idiots at the helm of this country that we have seen to date in this country’s political history; and the most corrupt bunch of trash that has occupied congress and the white house since post civil war reconstruction. The moral of this little rant: A vote for a “conservative democrat†is a vote for what you have at the top now. Folks need to look way passed the qualifications, pronouncements, and personalities of the people who hold themselves up to be something that that at this point in history; a myth. That is: a “conservative democrat†for the reasons listed above. Elections have stupendous consequences. Food for thought Kind regards, Leroy

Davis likes his job. He knows a vote for this stuff is political suicide in the district he serves. He has successfully presented himself as a "blue dog" (...an alleged fiscal (...thanks SWJewellTN...) conservative, but a demo rat none the less...) democrat for years. My assessment is that he is just another sorry politician on the public dole. His only redeeming quality is that he is smart enough to be more afraid of his constituency in Tennessee than that witch Pelosi and her other socialist buddies in congress. My advice, thank him for his service and vote him out the next time you get the chance. Until the electorate initiates a "Scorched Earth" policy with regard to politicians of any stripe that subvert the will of their constituency; there will be no end to the problems you see in congress and this country. If you don’t punish them; they will get the idea that they can do anything that they choose to do and then explain their actions away. I say sweep the state and country clean!! As the great character Homer Stokes so eloquently said in the cinematic masterpiece "Oh Brother": "...the little man has admonished me to grasp the broom of reform and sweep this state clean!...). Now is the time!! Remember, there is an election in 2010. Vote early and often!!! Hope this helps Leroy -
Archer:________ There is a great blessing in all three of these candidates. They all appear to be very conservative; and they are all newcomers. Always a great thing. This is a tough choice; but i like Robin Smith. She has plenty of backbone and plenty of experience from doing the Tennessee Republican Party Chairman (...On August 4, 2007, the State Executive Committee of the Tennessee Republican Party unanimously elected Robin Chairman of the state party... .-- this is no small accomplishment in my opinion) thing. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

I like it!! On a more sober note; it is sadly true!! Keep up the good work. Leroy

Those that believe that this is a "victory" of some sort for Americans are sadly mistaken. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is a tragedy that we have sunken to this level in both society and government. The government has no business meddling in the affairs of any private entity. That includes the banking industry, the auto industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the health insurance industry, or any other industry in this country that is providing a product or service that is legal to provide. Insurance is a product that you buy with your dollars; not a right that some government demagogue sees fit to grant you (...or to take away thru some idiotic rule that some activist can think up...) as a serf. You need to remember that whatever the government gives, it can take away. The democrats and republicans who are pushing the agenda of government intervention into whatever some rag-tag constituency seems to want at any particular time in history is nothing more than political pandering. This current administration along with congress has been the most corrupt and reprehensible that this nation has seen since the radical republicans of post civil war times. They are paying ever possible constituency, no matter how heinous and nutty, because they believe that their political survival depends on it (...the fact is that it does...). This great era of "hope and change" is nothing more than a series of anti-capitalist moves to pay back the various fringe constituencies that make up the demorat party. There are those that believe that the problems with healthcare are linked to the tort law lobby (… one of the protected cows of the politicians because they have lots of money and clout… . You know; the guys who sue the doctors because of some mistake or imagined injury to some budding genius that somehow leaves him less than he was before the poor doctor tried to help him. …) and the meddling of government in the healthcare industry via Medicare and Medicaid. The healthcare providers of this country have been demonized by the anarchist, socialists, anti-capitalist elites (...lots of politicians...), demigogs, ratty politicians, and the trashy to the extent that a pretty large fraction of people have been lead to believe that somehow the folks that are actually trying to help ease suffering and help people they don’t know are someway evil and are the enemies of the very patients they work so hard to help. This is, in my mind, is one of the most heinous lies ever hoisted upon the people of any nation. The people of the USA should be smarter than that. I am old enough to remember when health insurance premiums were about $200 per month for family coverage. That was before the extensive government meddling in the health industry and the damnable tort law lobby flowered. Lest some of you think that my health insurance is free; it aint. My premium in round numbers is about $1000 per month for family coverage. I don’t believe the government is going to lower my premium. Quite the contrary. If this debacle finally becomes law; it will raise premiums for everyone and provide an excellent “back door” arrangement to control behavior by the use of controlling clauses that could go like this: 1. If you own a gun; you could be an unstable nut and therefore a menace to society and a psychopath. No insurance benefit for you or your family. 2. If you are overweight; you are a gluttonous, selfish, chump and you are using up precious healthcare resources; therefore a menace to society. No insurance benefit for you or your family. 3. If you like to take a drink or smoke; you are an unacceptable health risk and a menace to society. No insurance benefit for you or your family. 4. You are over sixty years old (...or whatever age the bureaucrats decide...) and have a life threatening condition (... heart, liver, ms, etc). You are going to die anyway. Just go ahead and do it. No healthcare benefit for you. 5. On and on As absurd as these things sound; they are entirely possible if we keep the kind of administration we have elected. The people of this nation (…including the people of Tennessee, who elected Tanner and Cohen…) need to take reprisal on this trash that is currently sitting in high position in our government before we all become serfs. Remember, there is an election this november. Vote early and often!! Food for thought. Leroy

Shortening the first stage pull on AR triggers
leroy posted a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Dear fellow Tinkerers and AR mechanics:_____________ Have just done another AR lower using the usual GI parts. Smoothed the engagement surfaces on both the hammer and trigger. The pull is slick; but a bit too long to suit me. The question is: How would you shorten the first stage pull? Do you bevel the hammer notch a bit; or bevel the trigger? Please think about this and let me know what you think. Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Leroy -
This is great advice!! I heartily agree. Leroy

Did mine yesterday too. I thought it was interesting -- same questions as yours. Must have been a bunch of complaining about the last census. The income and house stuff is none of their business anyway. Kind regards, Leroy

Check these guys out for stocks, mags, etc, etc. : Rainier Arms, LLC™ | Taking the AR15 to new heights.. They are good guys too; and their shipping is super fast. Their place to my house in east tennessee -- three days!! RE: Collapsable buttstock. You get what you pay for. I like the Magpul CTR and the Vltor EMod (... got both of them...). Make sure you get a mil spec carbine buffer tube for your stock. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

Roy:__________ I like the baby glocks (...26,27,33...) for concealed carry. I regularly carry either a Glock 33 or a 2 inch J frame smith in my hip or jacket pocket (... the glock hides better, shorter, square shape...) in a kydex pocket holster by Alan Miller (...website here: Holsters and accessories). I think the baby glocks are a great small carry pistol with plenty of punch. If glock made a single stack (...like the Walther PPS...); they would be my "ultimate" concealed carry pistol. For what it's worth, ive carried full size 1911's and commander 1911's in both the old time shoulder holsters and inside the pants holsters. The glocks carry much better in the hip or jacket pocket because of the short overall length. I (...and others...) have found them to be extremely reliable and they pack a powerful punch. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

Charles Shumer "We can change Constitution
leroy replied to Glenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Amen brother!! We need to target these clowns, provide money to their opponents, and rid the country of them. They are dangerous men (...and women...). I believe what they advocate is treasonable; but no one has the nerve to go after them on that account. They regularly hide behind the First Amendment. Keep up the good work!! Kind regards, Leroy -
Great to hear!! I like the 265 grain bullets for both the 44 and the 45 Colt. Keep up the good work! Kind regards, Leroy

Thanks for posting this most interesting read!! Kind regards, Leroy

Vol:_________ As others have already posted; reloading is as much a hobby as it is a way to save money. That being said; I am convinced you do save money when you handload "unusual" calibers. I have a 375 H & H and a 458 Winchester (...big animals beware...). Reloading cuts the cost of ammo for these beasties by probably 75%. Moving on to pistol calibers; I doubt you can save much on 45 ACP IF YOU ARE NOT PICKY ABOUT BULLETS. If you like to pick your bullets; you can save probably 50% reloading for the ACP. We load for every caliber of big bore pistol at my house -- from 357 mag right up to 45 Colt. We shoot lots of old time big bore loads. You simply cannot buy that sort of stuff and shoot a couple of hundred rounds every time you go to the range. First of all; you can’t find 'em. Second, if you could; you couldn’t afford to buy them. One dollar a round for pistol ammo is ridiculous (... in my opinion...). One dollar a round for 223 match (Black hills Ammo) is insane (... but many will willingly pay that price; I won’t!!!...) Lest some of you "real capitalists" want to beat me up; dont bother. As the great character "Pappy" O"Daniel said in the equally great movie "OH Brother": "...I'm with you folks! ..." I like the capitalist system too and am not advocating price controls. I just vote with my dollars and wont pay what some ask for their products. I'm just frugal, not socialist!! We buy brass on sale, look for deals on bulk bullets (... the ones we like...), do our lead bullet business for the big bore stuff with this guy: http://proshootpro.com/. Buy some soft bullets from this guy: http://www.cowboybullets.com/. (...works like a charm for lighter loads in revolvers; but a little pricey for what they are...). We watch at midway for "bullet specials" for jacketed bullets. Lastly, for the 357 sig and 45 ACP; we load Rainier Plated Bullets (...they are a good value and very accurate...). The bottom line of reloading is that you can get what you want. The downside is that it takes time, and you have a pile of stuff cluttering up your garage or gun room. Oh: Reloading curve for 45ACP. If you can read, are careful, and pay attention; about 45 minutes if you buy the right tools to begin with. Don’t try to save money on presses, dies, powder measures, scales, or reloading handbooks. Buy good ones. The good ones are Dillon, Hornady, Lyman, Redding, RCBS, and Redding -- in no particular order -- by the best stuff you can afford at the best price you can find. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

Erik:____________ Niterunner hit the nail on the head. Recoil out of the Glock 33 is snappy. The pistol will climb in recoil; but you can pull it right back down on target. The grip on the baby glocks is wide but short. I think that tends to make them buck a little more if you have big hands. If you are used to shooting a big bore pistol (...40 or above...), you will have no problem with even the "baby" glocks. They are a great thing. Accurate and powerful. Hope this helps Kind regards, Leroy
