  1. https://arizonaconcealedcarry.com/   Ran across this site on Facebook.  The non-resident permit is good in our state and some surrounding states.  Anyone know more about it?
  2. I make occasional trips to southern IL.  Since I have a pickup truck without a secured box in back, I usually don't carry.  Two times I was in a car, I stopped at the Pilot truck stop in Paducah, KY off I-24 last exit before IL.  Unload my weapon, leave in locked postion put in a box and lock in a truck.  If passing through the southern part of that state, when I cross into Missouri, I make another stop and load my weapon and carry on.
  3. I carry a Glock 17, most of the time concealed, some of the times open.  Keep an extra magazine in my truck as well.   First post, ISIS is brought up and yes, I take the group very seriously and concerned about a 9/11 or worse style attack next month since it will be September.  I've brought up before that 9/11 attack was to get our attention.  Residing in Weakley County, the attacks had an emotional reaction, but did little to change every day lives in my county.  I am more concerned of a coordinated attack of the electrical grid system.......now that would have a direct impact.  In that worse case scenerio, AR-15 with several magazines will be added to my "carry" option.
  4. In two months, I will take my family on vacation to Panama City Beach, FL.  Since I am a geocacher, I have been reviewing the maps of caches/interesting locations and etc.  In regard of where to go in the event of a “Walking Dead” Scenario, something stuck out to me.   As we known in the show, FEMA along with military bases, National Guard bases, etc, were eventually overrun by walkers.  Later, small groups pulled together and barricaded themselves, like Woodbury, the Prison and Terminus.  One thing I began to notice after Gov’s re-return to the prison.  While it was not too difficult to set up defenses against walkers (after gaining a full or better understanding), none were defensible to rogue survivor groups.  When the Gov. learned of the prison setting, he had two concerns, a survivor group in his area of operations that could be a threat and also he felt the prison was a safer place than his Woodbury and wanted it.    Prepping for my trip in October, I observed the islands of Dauphin (off Mobile, AL), Okaloose which is connected to Santa Rosa (off Pensacola, FL)   They are off the coasts, connected by one or up to three causeways.   I’ve never been to those locations, but if there are renewable fresh water supply, areas of soil, that is not sand, to grow crops/pastures for some livestock…could be places to set up and live.   Advantages:  Islands are linked by causeways that can be barricaded against both walker and rogue survivors. As resources such as fuel dwindle, transportation to mainland for supply runs, recon can be made by non-motorized boats, such as canoes, kayak, rowboat, sailboat. Renewable supply of food…..FISH!     Disadvantages: Weather: Hurricane and Tropical storm seasons, residents will be screwed…nowhere to go. Rogue survivors can also use non-motorized craft to make assault.
  5. I work in Children's Services (Juvenile Justice), when a child is placed in state custody, a medical EPSD&T ( a physical) is completed within 30 days of placement, most of the time it's completed at a health department.  I've attended a few of these physicals and during the intake there is a question the health professional asks the child if there are firearms in the home and if so, are they securely stored.
  6. Saturday I had a trip to Martin and went by Rural King, then onto Wal-Mart.  I've noted on this forum that every time I've been to Rural King, I see Open-Carry.  Thus, I went with an Open-Carry of my Glock 17.  Generally, I just untuck my shirt since I OWB carry.  Go through Rural King, grab a couple of items, one being a 50 pound bag of chicken feed.  Had a couple of looks, no comments; I left nothing negative.  Then onto Wal-Mart, there I untucked my shirt and covered my weapon.  Martin is a college town and more likely to have a negative encounter in that Wal-Mart vs. Rural King.  I go to the front door and out walks a man open-carrying.  I keep to my plan and keep my weapon concealed and go about my business.
  7. The Walking Dead Season 5 trailer has been released.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4GAs9TJVjM&list=PLP63B9XPsQt0KiUz3ffyiS1tpDywWraPF&index=6
  8. Some of you may know, I work for DCS in the field of Juvenile Justice and this week I attended a juvenile court hearing on the transfer of two juveniles to adult court.  They were charged with Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Burglary in a home invasion on June 20th in Martin, TN.  Both were bound over to Circuit Court and now I can tell the rest of the story.   Will begin with the newspaper article, a 22 year old man awoke to find 4 males in his bedroom, in which, he hit in the face with a SKS rifle.  Later beaten up while the males tore through is house, eventually stealing his game consoles, some cash and credit cards.  They also poured water on his two TV’s. I had many questions about the robbery and wondered why this 22 year old was targeted.  I went to his Facebook page and saw he was friends with some of my past clients to include drug dealers and users.  So hmmmm????   All came to light in the transfer hearing and was very interesting.  The victim was targeted due to that he was a small time drug dealer and was rumored to have $2K in cash and large amount of marijuana in the home.  When the 4 came into his house, they were demanding the money and “weed”.  Unable to find what they wanted, they roughed him up more and tore up his house.  Further testimony indicated this invasion was planned out at least a week in advance where my 16 year old probation client was recruiting an adult (that I had the pleasure of knowing from my work) and his young adult tipped off the soon to be victim.  Two times prior to the robbery, the victim stated that someone came to his door asking to use the phone at 2:30 am.  It was apparent to me, these thugs were probing the victim’s defenses and responses.  Turns out, there was no SKS involved; the thugs used metal pellet guns, two of which resembled MP-5’s.  How were they caught?  The victim went to the hospital with a broken nose and gash on his head and police became involved.  The used the text message he received and connected one of the dots to the 16 year old and later one of his game consoles was turned out and the IP address led to one of the other invaders.  Another invader, when going to be questioned by police was wearing the victims expensive clothing.    To sum up, there are probably many more of these types of episodes where the victim is involved in shady life doesn't want to be on police radar or fear from the thugs.
  9. Thanks for the information.  I should have been more specific, it is my handgun and I may use the Glock box that came with the gun.  Browsed the TSA and Southwest Airline websites, it appears to be painless process.  It did specifiy, don't use the curb-side services.   While searching did browse another forum, only complaint I read was where a nosey passenger wouldn't let up and complained to TSA that a man brought a gun into the airport, so he ended up with the more body scan and gropping than normal.   Last month, I flew round trip from Nashville to Minnesota and TSA gave me extra attention each time.
  10. Planning a trip to Panama City in October and currently plan to fly from Nashville.  I've never checked a weapon when flying commercial.  Carried a weapon on charter flights, but that was all military.  My last commercial flights:  2008 to Detroit, I was going to Canada, and knew I couldn't bring my gun. 2010, New York City, didn't bring it.  This year, went to Minnesota, while I could carry in that state and others, I visited, Wisconsin, Iowa, South & North Dakota, my layover was at Midway in Chicago and didn't want the horror to find a connnecting flight cancelled and re-check in the gun the next day.   I've done some research and reading that the check in process is rather painless.  My question, what about when I arrive at the destination?  Surely, that locked pistol box won't come in the way of regular baggage in the carosel?
  11. I was hosting a geocaching event at a BBQ place in Paris last weekend.  Was concealing with an untucked shirt.  One of the cachers attending is an off duty Paris Police Officer, he observed my Glock 17 as I was giving out door prizes.  Had a friendly chat about handguns; he wasn't bothered that I was carrying, he was carrying too.    He had advised others that play this Internet game to carry.  About a year ago, was cachin' out in his county in a rural area.  Had to park away from the posted coordinates.  A car drove up, was eyeing me.  A few minutes later, occupants were eyeing me again.  Of course, I was eyeing them as well.  Wrote in my cache log of the experience and felt better that I was armed.  That county (Henry) like others in the region are invested with Meth heads.
  12. Thanks Fall Guy, will keep that in mind.   We continue to follow the bikers and attended fundraiser in Wingo, KY for St. Jude.  This event was on private property.  I carried concealed the whole time.  Did spot one conceal, but no open carriers.  Did observe one biker with an open carry hoslter, but no gun????
  13. Assisting a charity center in Dresden, TN; wife and I attended the opening ceremony of the Full Throttle Distillery in Trimble, TN on Satuday.  The charity will host a concert and bike run this October.  I don't watch the Full Throttle show and as close as I come to the biker culture is watching "Sons of Anarchy".  To say the least, I felt very much out of place.   Being the area was a street festival and unknown if the city of Trimble prohibited carry in a "park", I left my Glock in my vehicle.  We walked around handing out flyers to nearly anyone wearing leather.  Walking around, I spotted conceal carry after another.  Guess it was carry bigger gun day?  Also saw one after another with Open Carry.
  14. I am on the fence on this issue but beginning to lean towards pro-open carry.  The few liberals on my Facebook are beginning to cry about open carry, (Wild West Shoot Outs, etc.) same crap before HCP passed in mid-90’s.  Just to irritate the liberals, I might swing in favor. I pointed out on one liberal post; the open carry (with exception of Kentucky) would end at the state line.  One thing I do like about my permit that it’s good in many other states.
  15. " If you like your current gun, you can keep it. Obama-gun will save you $2400.00/year. There will be a website where you can register your gun."   Found that quote from someone on the NRA Facebook feed.    Obama/Holder & Co. already know that gun control efforts failed in the Senate last year and gun grabbing Democrats in tight races for re-elections are distancing themselves from the issue.    What I raise, if guns can't be dealt with in Congress, then the Executive branch and use the regulation powers via executive order to get what they want.    Mark my words, that on Wednesday, Nov, 5th, this Holder talk will turn into more action with the pen and phone.
  16. Being a permit holder for over 15 years, I've observed concealed carriers from time to time.  With the increasing number of permit holders in our state, (Weakley County is well over 2,200!) spotting those is becoming more frequent.   I'm not going to take a stand to OC or not OC, both have merits and disadvantages.  Won't go there, I think that dead horse has already been beaten.   But would like to point out; over the last few weeks, I've seen more and more people using OC.    Several weeks ago at a Mexican place in Dresden, a man was OC'ing while in the place, I took nothing, and observed no one else noticed.   Last week, leaving Rural King in Martin, I'm going out, someone with a crossdraw holster is walking in.    This past weekend, I take the family to a local restuarant in Dresden, Kountry Korner.  We were grabbing a bite after a political "Meet the candidates" at an Elem. School, I wasn't carrying, since I knew I would be in school grounds.  While eating, another motorcycle club pulls up, they gather around our tables.  One of the bikers was OC'ing a very nice Glock and holster.  Person at the table beside me is in a suit, but is a Weakley County Sherriff's Deputy (man is running for Sherriff) a few tables away, in a suit is the Sherriff of Weakley County.  Both notice the Open Carrier.  Either have the right to ID themselves and ask the man for his permit but neither said anything.  After lunch, the man running for Sheriff spoke to us outside and asked our vote.  I asked him if he saw the man with the gun on his belt, he said, that's common now and don't think anything about it.   Now, to my little story.  Saturday morning, I get out before sunrise for a little breakfast and fill out my truck prior to my wild turkey hunt.  I am all camo (hadn't painted my face yet) but am OC'ing a Glock 17.  Someone did take notice and just looked.  After filling up, I went into the store for a bite/drink....on the way out, the guy who was staring at my gun, went out of his way to open the door for me.
  17. Was with a group of geocachers in January, the tower is a virtual cache, no container to find or sign, only count the steps going up.   I made the climb in 2006 when staying at Fall Creeks Falls for a Dept. retreat.  Link to the cache page:  http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6801_smoke-signals   No one was around that day in January, the access road did have locked gate that we went around.  I didn't make the climb that day, my knees were still in much pain from the 10 mile hike at Virgin Falls the day prior.
  18. As others have eluded to, Feinstien is requesting the Pres, to set the regulation or by EO.    In regard to further Ex. orders, it's now doubt that many Democrats in contested seats are running for cover, distancing themselves from political hot potatoes such as Obamacare and gun control.  I am predicting a GOP or Tea Party sweep of Congress with DNC loosing seats in the House and will lose control of the Senate.  Thinking at that point from this Nov, to Jan. we see one EO after another.
  19. Beth and Darryl at beginning with Beth getting crossbow lessons.  Anyone notice crossbow did not have a sight?  Beth steps onto a animal trap.  At first I thought, 2 years into this and nothing has set off the trap, but then got to think, what was the Walker eating?  Guess something in a different trap.    They find the funeral home, with 1 body ready for a funeral, 2 in prep.  One of the prep appeared to have been was was becoming a Walker.  The funeral home was too clean and orderly for 2 years since SHTF.  I dont' think anyone was actually living there, but may have been for a nomadic group going from place to place, but instead of wondering, actually had places to go.  The home was someone prepped with windows covered, but nothing in fortifications.   A dog shows up at the door and then runs off.  How a mangy dog could have survived this, beats me.  Later, Darryl opens the door thinking it was the dog, but instead it was Walkers.  Suprised he let his guard down.  Guess I need to re-watch that part, how the Wallkers didn't trip to alert system that Darryl set up.  My guess is the Walkers were lead to the door.   Beth abducted by who knows whom.  Thought at first the hoodlums that Rick avoided 2 episodes ago or ones that abducted Beth, however, I don't think so.  Darryl is drafted into the hoodlum group, he'll fit in for now, he has no where else to go, but when that group contests anyone that from the old prison group.....it maybe come interesting.   Bob, Sasha, Maggie appear to argue too much for me.  Anyone notice that Maggie is all about Glenn and not a word of her sister, Beth?    Groups are low or almost without weapons.
  20. Latest episode "inmates"   As wtih the previous episode, our survivors criss cross each others trails.  I suppose that will continue into the next episode.  Faith and Hope seemed to be the underlining goal of the episode.   Daryl and Beth:  Very odd couple.  Daryl proven walker-fighter, Beth, for the most part has been a Fobbit.  I did notice while both ran off from the prison armed with M-4's, Neither had long guns in latest episode.  While I can see Carl dtiching the 30-30 lever action, ammo would be difficult to obtain,  The survivors will run across (5.56mm or .223) ammo again at some point.  Daryl appeared to all but given up.  Beginning of the season, he is risen to one of the most respected members of the "prison" community.  Something in pre-walker life didn't happen.  I did like how Beth and Daryl worked together for Beth to knife the walker.   Tyress and the girls, I said from the first episode, Lizzie ain't right and I verified that Sunday night.  Carol shows up???  I think she had been hanging around the prison after Rick exiled her and she was tollowing the action.    Bus folks:  Bus was driving off and rounds where hitting it, I noticed where the bus stopped no walkers around it, it was overcome from within.   Glenn:  Got off the bus during the firefight but ends up on the walkway?  He gathers himeself and finds Tara and makes her go with him, despite that she was part of the attacking group.    Maggie, Sasha and Bob:  Only Sasha has a long gun? And it was not the one she had as she left the prison.
  21. Internet chatter about the survivors and who will live and who will die.  The show revolves around Rick and Rick is there for Carl.  So chances of either of those two charactors meeting an end are small if not zero.  Same would apply to Daryl, he has a huge fan following.    Carl feels that his dad (Rick) has let him and others down.  When the virus went global to Rick's arrival at the quarry, Shane protected Carl and Lori.  Last night's episode showed that Carl thought he was man enough to go out alone and had his butt handed to him.  If we look back at Carl, he has not been in hand to hand fight with a Walker, he always had a rifle or that Berretta.  Since leaving the prison, the Berretta runs out of ammo, Carl feels defenseless.   As for Michone, there was hints of this development sine the birth of Judith and now we saw her past.  She goes back to old ways of "pet" Walkers, but find herself around a herd of Walkers.  Walkers have developed a herd-like mentality and will follow a Walker that looks to have a purpose.  Michone can't go back to way it was (pre-prison life).  She had seen Rick/Carl's tracks earlier, I assumed she did not follow due to Rick was limping and his tracks may have looked like the Walker shuffle.
  22.   Looking forward to this Sunday evening.  Have watched the trailers and a bit confused since the footage has almost all were alone.   1) Bus that had emergency supplies took off, most onboard were sick.  Question:  If the group thought enough ahead to put emergency supplies onto a bus in the event the group had to un-ass the prison, was there a location to meet?   2) Tyress was carrying something in both hands when he left with the other two girls (possibly other kids), I think he had the baby Judith.    3) Rick and Carl were seen together leaving the prison, Rick in real bad shape.    4) Daryl and Beth in the same direction together in the direction of where the bus departed.   5) Bob, Sasha, maybe someone else, left together.  Bob has a gunshot wound.   6) Michone, maybe the best overall survivor in the skills dept. apparently alone.   Did I miss anyone?
  23. Thought about the water, barge, houseboat, island off Paris Landing, etc.  When 99% of so of the population are "Walkers", infrastructure is no more.  Dams that regulate the rivers will not longer work.  Could only tell how flooding would become.   "I think the key question is "where to go....from what"? Who are you hiding from? Is this a hunker down and hde or are you going to be actively conducting some kind of operation? If the goal is just plain hiding, then the likely best choice is to be in a remote area, WELL off the beaten path, dug in with overhead cover-concealment, and a significant break in your scent/thermal trail as well as how you got there (leaving your truck parked a mile away is pointless, you either need to walk or at best case use a bicycle).   If you are talking about conducting some sort of "operation" then the whole host of questions about, "why, against whom, where, payoff, motive, method, desired outcome, target proximity, post operation evasion and relocation" all come into play, not to mention the issue of "one man does not an army make" You would have to have co-actors which increases your vulnerability to detection as well as logistical challenges."   From what, a walker take over...virus going global.  Remote area to be away from Walkers.  But since I reside in Dresden, that would mean for me a trip onto I-40, passing by or through high pop areas such as Nashville if stay on 40, Mufreesboro, Frankin on 840.  I saw better places during my hike the previous day at Virgin Falls, far more remote, water access.  But too remote for other resources.   We hiked to the fire tower since the access road was closed.  When I completed the virtual in 2006, I drive right to the base of the tower.  I didn't make the trip to the top of the fire tower this time, the 10 mile hike the previous day took a major toll on my knees.  In the event of a walker take over, a bar across a gravel road will NOT deter me from entry.   The hilltop is flat, crops could grow and maybe some livestock.
  24.   Better word would be  Indigenous.
  25. Been a fan of "Walking Dead" last couple of seasons, there was discussion from time to time of where to go or what to do, was obvious that us who think of survival will not relate good to a TV show. Anyways, I was on a geocaching adventure that took me to Virgin Falls, Rock Island State Park and near Fall Creek Falls. At a virtual cache called (Smoke Signals), location: N 35° 40.172 W 085° 18.373 Location is an closed fire tower which is located on top of a large hill, terrain is steep on all sides expect the road leading up to the fire tower, that being the weak point. I didn't go up the tower this time since I was on of the few in the group that had already completed this virtual. I visited the location in 2006. House is there, along with out buildings and a propane tank. Pictured our our hike to the tower. Large and very tall tower. Advantages: Rural area, should be less indigent walkers Wooded and complex terrain, walkers don't trasverse very well Flat area on the hill top, be able to grow some crops, possible small number of livestock Tall tower for overwatch of the entire hilltop and surrounding area. Propane tank, fuel for heat and cooking. Concerns: Rural area, be longer distances to obtain supplies House one story and is wood, need to be more secure. Fire tower is very tall, use of arrows, crossbows would be ineffective at that distance. Water source not on the hilltop. If overrun, by walkers or rogue survivors, retreat would be difficult. Would be difficult to, but not impossible to defend against rogue survivors. To fortify, use barbed wire at base of hill and areas up the hill to trap or delay walkers. Stronger fence at hilltop ridge, with one exit/entrance Reinforce the house.
