  1. Here's what I know about Shelby Forest (it's been years since I've been there--things may have changed): -The park WAS only open a few days a week (due to budget$ problems) -the park is open to all for archery season -gun hunts are by drawing only, and only shotguns are permitted, although there are some muzzleloader hunts Sorry, my info is limited, this link may help, though: http://www.state.tn.us/twra/pdfs/wmaseasons08.pdf check p. 48.
  2. 5.5 pounds and 1/2" of travel hardly qualifies as SA. The 1911 owners can probably verify this.
  3. I'll have to side with tower on this one--too many cops are incompetent with firearms. There are some who are fine shots and really know what they're doing, but most cops are not "gun" people and do not get enough training, much less practice. I believe it was Todd@CIS that recently posted that his department qualifies every couple months or so. This is incredible! I wish all departments would do this, but very few do. I said it before and I'll say it again--Glocks are perfectly safe IF the owner has proper training and practices routinely. If the shooter is casual toward training and gun handling practice, they need something else, cops included.
  4. Yeah, all the Cromptonites are strangely quiet these days...
  5. That sounds like a good breakfast.
  6. Lots of people here have problems with the pipes coming loose, although my wife's Glock 19 has them and they have held up well. FWIW, several locals have been unhappy with TruGlo's customer service. Based on how TFOs do on other guns and how TruGlo balks at taking care of them, I probably would not buy them again. My wife loves them, though.
  7. On safe or decocked--either way, I don't care. I don't want them pointing it at me.
  8. I've never heard of "bleeding a deer," but I think it's a lot more important to gut one sooner rather than later and put the deer on ice if need be. During bow season (or warm gun season), I would buy two or three bags of ice and stuff them into the deer's field dressed chest cavity if it would be a while before processing. I say "would" because I no longer really have a place to go, and I'm now more interested in competitive shooting, anyway. I'll probably find my way back into the woods, though.
  9. Ok, I really jacked up the quote feature on that one...
  10. Agreed. I'm a big Glock fan, but a complete novice who is getting a gun to have, but will not practice or get any training, has no business with a Glock. On the other hand, a novice who gets quality training and shoots/practices routinely will be fine. Not necessarily true--a Glock's relatively low bore axis makes it a bit more gentle than, say a SIG or an XD.
  11. G34 and 35 come with cheap adjustable sights. I'm not positive, but I believe the importation adjustable sight is a completely different animal--probably one I hope to never encounter.
  12. Any time. Thus, the Gen. 3 guns have the silly "loaded chamber indicator" extractor and the "target" grips (finger grooves/dimples on each side). Many features are laughable, but serve an important purpose, as dictated by the BATF. How would you like to see one of the "cheap" rear sights the guns are imported with? As if the craptastic stock sights aren't cheap enough!
  13. from glockfaq: What is the BATF points system and how does it affect Glocks? Many of the Glock's parts and sometimes the whole gun are dictated or limited by the BATF's system of "import points". To qualify for import a pistol must score 75 points based on the following system: CharacteristicPointsLength: for each 1/4" over 6" 1 Forged steel frame 15 Forged HTS alloy frame 20 Unloaded weight w/mag (per oz.)1.22 short and .25 auto 0 .22 LR and 7.65mm to .380 auto 3 9mm parabellum and over 10 Locked breech mechanism 5 Loaded chamber indicator 5 Grip safety 3 Magazine safety 5 Firing pin block or lock 10 External hammer 2 Double action 10 Drift adjustable target sight 5 Click adjustable target sight 10 Target grips 5 Target trigger 2 For example, here is how the G17 scores: Length (7.28") 5 Weight (24.79oz) 25 Caliber (9mm)10 Locked breech 5 Firing pin block 10 Double action 10 Target sight 10 Target grips 5 Total80 Here is how the Glock 26 scores: Length (6.29") 1 Weight (21.87oz) 22 Caliber (9mm) 10 Locked breech 5 Firing pin block 10 Double action 10 Target sight 10 Target grips 5 Target trigger 2 Total 75 Changes and features made to Glocks to comply with the BATF rules: - all models are imported with a cheap click-adjustable rear sight that is replaced at the factory with the stock sight - target (grooved) trigger added to compacts & subcompacts - target grips added to all models (required for the subcompacts) - due to their caliber, .380 autos (G25 & G28) do not score enough points to be imported
  14. I doubt that you will have any feeding issues with your AK, but the SPs are probably a good all around choice.
  15. Importation rules will never allow that to happen.
  16. They'll get promptly thrown out of an IDPA match if they pull that crap...
  17. Sorry Tungsten--my wife never returned my call, and my aunt is in the process of moving from Knoxville to Chicago (can't explain that one).
  18. no it won't--it's one of the new canynracer series assproof tactical Glock 34s!
  19. but then the cops may see my G34...besides, I've lost weight since that pic was taken.
  20. Keep in mind that parks are off-limits for concealed carry (or open). This may turn off some otherwise interested folks.
  21. My wife and aunt both work at the VA--I'll make some phone calls and see if I can get anywhere.
