  1. I am watching Redskins v. Giants. Plaxico Buress is not playing because he accidently shot himself in some club Friday night. Probably used a Glock. Anyway, fatass Tony Siragusa said that Buress was foolish to carry a gun with him, and that you shouldn't go places where you feel it is necessary to carry a gun. Wow, I didn't know crime locations could be predicted. What an ignorant political statement by an overpaid, overweight numbnuts.
  2. I'm no fan of Horiuchi or the ATF. Whatever the case, why would a company that produces stocks for precision rifles want an endorsement from a controversial sniper who shot someone in the arm?
  3. Picked up a Smith ORC M4 (no front or rear sights). What I would like to do is find a 1-3 or 1-4 compact scope, possibly with an illuminated circle-type reticle, like the Millett DMS http://www.millettsights.com/controller.php/catalog/tactical_dms My problem is that I hate the way they usually have to be mounted so far forward. I never got over my childhood hatred of the texture of raw vegetables, either. Go figure. I may settle for an Eotech or Aimpoint and and good set of BUIS, but what I'd like to find is a DMS-style scope in a shorter package. I definitely want the CQB-utility of a true 1X sight, but the optional magnification would be nice. I've been on other forums snooping around, and the only other option I've found is Leupold's CQ/T. I've read good and bad opinions from users about it, but at $800-900, I'm a bit reluctant to pull the trigger. Anybody got a similar setup?
  4. How big are your hands? If they are smallish, you may be better off hitting the mag release with your trigger finger. The 229 is not exactly slim. I'm a lefty, and always thought I'd like a switched mag release, but hated it the first time I tried it. Congrats on a fine weapon.
  5. +1 In the 90s, UT fans would be thinking, "we have a shot at the title game." Finishing outside the top five was a disappointment. Lately, fans say things like "we may have a chance at winning the east!" And a top 20 finish is considered a successful year. While I respect him as a decent man, his coaching/recruiting prowess has dwindled over the years. It doesn't take an armchair quarterback to realize something is badly jacked up with two losing seasons in the last four years. Hopefully, UT never hires another former offensive lineman as head coach (or offensive coordinator, for that matter).
  6. +1 Hans Gruber...sounds like more of a Nazi than a Stalinist.
  7. ????????? Fulmer has been running the program into the ground since 2001. They are 4-7, maybe 4-8 tomorrow. He gets outcoached every week, and he can no longer recruit. Expectations are lower every year. For this, he's awarded millions. How is this getting screwed???

  9. So sorry to hear of your loss. This really hits home--my wife went in the hospital last week with a short cervix (she's at 25 weeks). Fortunately, she's home now, but premature labor is still a worry. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  10. Again, I never generalized all cops, only MPD. Get out of the LEO field, move to Memphis, and stay for five years. Then you may know where I'm coming from. Happy T-giving and be safe out there.
  11. Well, if I am one of the ones labeled "copbasher," then so be it. This is similar to Obama supporters yelling "racist" every chance they get, though. I never generalized all cops; I just made an honest, undeniable observation about the local PD. The law simply does not apply to an alarming percentage of them here. To all the good, honest cops (and I know several), I thank you for what you do on a daily basis. Others, however, do not get my sympathy when they gripe about low pay, crappy hours, scummy work enviroment, or diry work they have to do. None were drafted into their field; all made choices to become cops knowing the pay, risks, and thankless nature of the job.
  12. Dont sterotype MPD like that--the bad apples give the other 60% a bad name.
  13. Because, if this guy had turned out to be MPD, OP's call to the police would have been a complete waste of time. Cops around here are above the law.
  14. My everyday carry knife, as well. I wish I could disable the safety, though.

    Vince Young

He's been a bust, but comparing him to Ryan Leaf may be a bit harsh. Maybe he will adapt and become a passer first. Scrambling to make the pass is great. McNair and McNabb have been successful with this formula. Simply being a running QB like Vick and Young makes for great college highlights, but short NFL careers.
  16. I switched to Glocks from 1911s, and quickly resolved this problem. I bet that if you shot Glocks exclusively, like me, you would not have that problem. I am by no means saying everyone should do that, but that issue is one of the reasons that I shoot/carry/compete with one type of gun. Switching back and forth between different types of guns is not a good idea, IMO. For a while, I shot SIGs exclusively. Then I switched to 1911s. Then I finally settled on Glocks. Now, if I shoot a 1911 with a flat MSH, I momentarily can't find the front sight. My point is that no matter what type of gun I choose, I will stick with that brand/style, etc to avoid grip angle/pointability/indexing/different controls issues.
  17. Yes, concealment is required, but they'll probably let you shoot without it at first. They don't want to hammer a new guy over the head with rules--they are trying to recruit a new shooter. You can shoot your revolver in two revolver-only divisions: SSR (stock service revolver) or ESR (enhanced service revolver). SSR is geared towards a 4" .38/.357 using .38 ammo and speed loaders. ESR is more for guys using L and N frame .45 ACPs with moon clips. I believe revolver guys are allowed three speedloaders or moon clips on their belt (as opposed to two magazines). While you are technically only shooting against other revolvers, everybody compares their scores with everybody.
  18. Here's some video that Memphis Mechanic shot at the match: [ame] [/ame]
  19. canyn, FWIW, I got an e-mail that said no IDPA this coming week due to repairs to the big side. You are probably already ahead of me on this. truth, On Tuesday nights, Range USA shoots IDPA and it's ~$12-$13. Rangemaster shoots every Friday night, and the cost is (was) $15. On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, MSSA has IDPA (outdoors) and it's $12 for non-members. Bring eyes and ears, your gun, a strong-side hip holster (no cross draw or small of back type), three magazines, and a magazine carrier (for two mags, or two single mag carriers). Plan on shooting ~75 rounds on Tuesday or Friday, and 100-125 on Saturdays. Bring more than you think you'll need. Be warned--this will be even more fun than you expected.
  20. RUSA on Tuesday night or MSSA on Saturday?
