  1. Wow. What about the camerman and anybody else behind the shooter who get swept every time the shooter does the tactical cartwheel?
  2. While you are on Comp-Tac's website, check out the CTAC as well. How are you built? Not trying to ruffle any feathers or offend anyone, but it seems that guys who complain about the CTAC being uncomfortable are the ones who are, shall we say, portly. Also, some have commented that the big leather layer on the MTAC causes them to sweat more in the summer. I use the CTAC, and have been happy with it. I'm not advocating one over the other, just trying to provide more info. I see you're in Memphis--if you could go to RangeUSA on Tuesday nights for their IDPA match or Rangemaster on Friday nights, you could probably see an example of both.
  3. but they don't have Tom Givens
  4. +1 I probably smart off more than the average TGOer when provoked. More than once, I've speculated that Mars would get out the KY and Viagra every time he read about some clueless cop shooting himself in the ass with a Glock. It was intended to be a harmless jab at his age, but I wish I could take back some of those comments. You never what your words will do. I should probably tone it down, too. On the other hand, I think Mars would scoff if he heard all this talk about polite, courteous posts. Maybe, in his memory, we should continue posting like there are "commies coming over the berm."
  5. Five broken ribs? Ouch. I fell off a ladder once and broke one, and that only hurt when I inhaled for about a month. If I quit breathing, it felt great. That had side effects, though. I couldn't imagine five. Get well soon!

    Grannys MP40

I've seen it 20 or 30 times before, but it gets better every time!
  7. Not a problem, as long as they have fully supported chambers...
  8. +1 We disagreed a lot, but I always looked forward to his posts. He will be missed.
  9. IDPA stages are limited only by the imagination of the guy who sets up the stage. Many of our stages offer the shooter several choices and options on how to solve the stage. Every once in a while, after watching somebody else shoot a stage, I smack myself in the forehead and think, "Why didn't I think of that?" I agree with you, I sometimes get tired of the stages where everyone does exactly the same thing. We don't have as many of these of some, though.

    Drool

If that thug with a knife 10 feet away is me, you won't get a chance to draw your weapon, much less tap-rack-bang. But I agree, double strike capability is highly overrated.
  11. One Glock 23+one Glock 19=$1000. One Glock 23+one Lone Wolf barrel+two Glock 19 mags=$636. $364 is more than a little cash to me.
  12. +1 verbal and nate. DO NOT use a factory 9mm barrel in a SIG or a Glock. I have a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for my G23, and have been happy with it. Some people need to change the ejector with a conversion barrel, but mine ran fine. G23 mags will probably not work with 9mm ammo.
  13. ??? been trying to make Master for almost a year. Consequently, I shot a classifier yesterday and am now an ESP Expert (just couldn't shoot that 89 second classifier). If I make it to Manchester next month, I'll shoot as an SSP Master. In November in Mississippi, I'll probably play w/ the ESP folks.
  14. Good night alive, IDPA is just a game! Very few IDPA shooters will argue that it's training for a real gunfight. And on the use of cover thing, not all shots must be taken from cover. Some shooting takes place in the open while on the move, which can't be a bad thing to practice. Do IDPA techniques teach you how to survive a gunfight? Probably not. Is learning to think while instinctively handling and shooting your carry gun at the same time a bad thing? I can't see how it is. Practicing drawing and shooting a carry gun from concealment in front of your peers while on a clock can't hurt. It's not training, but it's no more useless than some of the training available out there.
  15. blasphemy! j/k--although I love M-1As/M-14s, I have actually been thinking about picking up a FAL before the election. From what I've read, it appears to be the best of the .308 battle rifles.
  16. I'm 5'10/180, and I easily conceal a Glock 19. The M&P compact is smaller, and you are quite a bit bigger, so concealing it shouldn't be an issue. You could probably conceal an AMT Hardballer Longslide if you tried hard enough.
  17. Thanks Angus! I found more videos of the same match on youtube: [ame] [/ame][ame] [/ame]
  18. Before you replace any parts, make sure you are able to shoot from the reset point. By this I mean only letting the trigger out until you feel a click--the gun is now ready to fire--there's no need to let the trigger out any more. That spot where it suddenly gets heavy? That's your reset. Dry fire your gun, keep the trigger pulled, rack the slide, and slowly let the trigger out. When it clicks, you are ready to go. With a little practice, you can rip off .2 second splits by shooting from the reset. The reset seems to be more pronounced with the stock trigger than with lightened triggers.
  19. I like cats, but that's just funny as hell.
  20. +1 I need another velcro-lined belt, but $95 is just tough to cough up for a belt. However, if there is a belt that is actually worth $95, I bet Comp-Tac makes it.
  21. LOL, he's not talking about me. I probably can't shoot Master in a classifier. BTW, congrats to Bill.
  22. 1. Thanks for all the congrats. 2. Yes, I've had the 34 three or four weeks now. 3. This IDPA match was the Shoot, Rattle, and Roll in Hot Springs, AR. 4. I somehow managed not to shoot myself in the ass. 5. Here are all 12 stages (I'm the lefty in the green vest; MemphisMechanic is wearing the hatcam): http://www.tristateshooters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130
