  1. Perhaps it really did accidentally end up over the US. Or possibly a belligerent Chinese government is just thumbing its nose at an incompetent American one. My dad was on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific in the early 60s. He said they would do a bunch of launch and recovery and turn every electrical gadget on full blast and then run wide open toward the Russian coast a couple hundred miles out and then go ice cold stone silent. They weren't even allowed to use an electric razor. The Russians would freak out and send half the Soviet navy out to figure out where the American carrier went. The Russians played the same game off the California coast. The balloon thing strikes me as the grandchild of this geopolitical UNO the Navy used to play (and I'm sure still do), except China"s intentions may be a little different.
  2. I'm thinking if I hike to the top of Mt Leconte, I could nail this thing with my 6mm BMG as it passes over. https://www.fox13memphis.com/news/trending/north-carolina-police-urge-residents-not-take-potshots-chinese-spy-balloon/UNPYNPJKDBDLXGFEMFTPWF7ZWM/
  3. I used to be a delivery driver and had a psychic on my route, but she never got anything. One day she finally did, but she was closed. I came back the next day and she had left a note on her door that said, "Please come back tomorrow and call me 15 minutes before you get here." My smartass DNA came out and I wrote on her note, "You call me 15 minutes before I get here." She came and picked up her package the next day and I never saw her. I always wondered if she got a laugh out of it or put some kind of voodoo curse on me.
  4. I was referring to police and non-police related cases. It's now pretty much impossible for any of them to get an impartial jury. Steve Farese may take their cases pro-bono because sometimes, that's just how he rolls.
  5. Yes and the Ballins are Olympic gold medalists at muddying the water (which is their job). I also wonder how these high-power defenses are funded (not just in this case).
  6. A new gun is never a bad thing but he had better watch his back - $790 for a new Montefeltro is THEFT lol
  7. I was wondering the same thing. CJ Davis said there was no probable cause to stop him - wouldn't dash cams confirm or repudiate this? I guess they saved that for the inevitable courtroom karate. It looks like one of the arrested has hired Blake Ballin. I figured Farese and/or a Ballin would show up. Gonna be interesting.
  8. A day late and a dollar short and due to Bill Lee, not the city council. I still suspect Shelby County residents and especially Memphians are given preference.
  9. Some things are more important than improving hiring practices. https://wreg.com/news/memphis-city-council-overrides-mayors-veto-keeps-police-residency-referendum-off-ballots/
  10. I read 2001 somewhere, but that could have been a typo.
  11. I agree and don’t want to engage in spreading rumors, but Davis’ statement is baffling.
  12. If it is the case and this is not what it seems and Davis and Mulroy know and are worried about imminent riots, they need to have a press conference quick, fast, and in a hurry.
  13. I heard that too from a friend and figured it was a BS rumor and refused to mention it. Now I wonder.
  14. The police chief announced that there was no evidence of probable cause for a traffic stop. What the hell does that mean? Why would the police chief say that? Why would she say it out loud? Why did they stop him? What exactly do we have here? Is this something other than straightforward police brutality? Did Nichols and one or more of the officers already know each other? Her statement definitely makes me wonder what exactly the hell happened and why.
  15. Is he using steel shot? Try some bismuth. I've heard many a duck hunter complain about steel no matter what ga they were shooting. A friend hunts ducks with nothing but 20 ga and uses these: https://bossshotshells.com/shotshells/bismuth/ He said they hit like a truck compared to steel shot. They are kinda pricey, but he says he only gets to go twice a year, so he might as well make his shots count.
  16. Or he might get away. MPD has a fairly strict no pursuit policy and the bad guys are well aware. If MPD chases someone in a car (assuming they follow their own rules), they probably have a good reason. It’s not even clear (or at least I haven’t read) whether he didn’t stop, stopped and decided to leave in his car, ran away on foot, or some combination. If it turns out that he was one of those fine citizens who, in the last two years, has decided it’s ok to shut down streets at gunpoint, get 3” from other cars while changing lanes at 125mph on I-240, or do the hit-and-run routine and he finally got caught, I will have less sympathy for him. But I won’t judge him or the cops until I see some facts and evidence.
  17. I don’t know what happened, but I suspect he wasn’t stopped for failing to use a turn signal.
  18. How often does this happen when the person stopped by police does not run or fight? It would be interesting to find out why he ran and what happened after he did. We are told that black men are all but justified in running because look at what happens when they get stopped, but most of the incidents cited are horrible examples that the victim/suspect had warrants, tried to run over the officer, etc. and could have easily avoided. This one appears to be an exception, although none of us have all the facts and probably never will. It is a tragedy if black men are taught to run any time they are stopped and then fight if need be because you are going to get badly hurt or die regardless. That seems like they are being conditioned to carry out a self-fulfilling prophesy.
  19. I dry fired my friend's trigger yesterday. The break felt exactly like my Timney does, but the reset was a lot more pronounced. He played around with several connectors and settled on one of the Lone Wolf connectors. I would buy one of these before anything else if I wanted to change the trigger from stock.
  20. No, I get it, but some groups push the narrative that white cops are out hunting black men. This incident doesn't help their cause, so I think riots are less likely. White cops or black, I'm not judging anyone until I at least see the video (if it does become available).
  21. SHOULDN’T matter, but unfortunately does. Many a civil rights industrialist tonight is probably lamenting what they initially assumed to be a golden opportunity.
  22. Excellent point, but it will be ignored by the city council when someone mentions widening the candidate pool for the job by allowing non-Shelby County residents to be hired. Memphis is short on officers, but shrinking the department's recruiting potential is more important because POLITICS
  23. Makes sense. As much as I despise Baldwin, I have mixed feelings about sending him to prison for this. A trip to the local indoor range can look like somebody let loose a bunch of monkeys with chainsaws. I would hate to imagine the safety picture on the set of a movie with untrained Hollywood egomaniacs pretending to shoot each other. I suspect Baldwin did nothing different than he has done numerous times in his career, except this time, somebody loaded the gun. A friend completely disagreed and said if one of us were cleaning a gun, reassembled it, accidently loaded it, and pulled the trigger and shot somebody, we would go to prison and what he did was no different. I think this is a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. We (should) follow Cooper’s four rules. Those rules get murky when making a movie that involves people being shot. Whether he pulled the hammer or pulled the trigger, Baldwin pointed a gun at someone and shot them and is ultimately responsible. If he had said something like “Wow, I screwed up and this is an eye opening experience. I want to use this tragedy to establish and follow better procedures on sets and change our culture”, I would respect him for it. Instead, he said “IT’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT!!” So come what may.
