That dry heat can sneak up on Easterners like us. We aren’t drenched and it doesn’t feel the same because sweat is evaporating, so we think we are good. Bam then we are dehydrated before we know it.

I was at Bright Angel campground at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and it was 117F and the humidity was maybe only 10%. It didn’t matter.

You may be related to my father. He kept an icepick thermometer in the dash vent of his F-150 and if it got above 40F, he was in the Lewis Ford service guy’s face. I think I got frostbite in his truck once on the way to school. My sister sent his DNA to ancestry.com or whoever and it said he was 70% Scandinavian. That explained several things.

DA/SA My mother told me if I don’t have anything nice to say…

It’s so hot, Jehovah’s Witnesses started telemarketing.

I’ve managed to avoid jail so far in life. Hope it doesn’t get any hotter, though.

This In the cold, you can add layers but in the heat, you can lose only so many layers before you go to jail.

I wasn’t saying ya’ll are fussing, just making a general comment about the yearly summertime drama the weather people and/or treehuggers stir up and the mentality of people nowadays: Guys at work: The high today is 106!! Global warming!! Me: No, the high is 93. Them: But TV/news/social media said 106! Me: That’s the heat index, a made up number. The temperature is the same as last year and the year before and the year before that. Them: But it’s 106!

Same here. Not sure if it’s getting older or not working outside every day any more (or both), but it seems to take me longer to acclimate. But I still remember summer 1980.

I don’t understand all the fuss. It’s doing the same thing it does every year for the 5+ decades I’ve been around, except now the weather people stir up everybody talking about heat index instead of temperature. As if things are different.

Stoeger trashes Sig but he will absolutely tell it like it is. Who knows, he may like the gun. I was a little surprised he spent as much time as he did with the two Staccatos. I think he actually enjoyed them.

After my Prodigy plate came loose the third time, I switched to red loctite. The next step was JB Weld. Fortunately, the red has held lol.

THIS. And of course he has a muzzle brake.

I have had great luck with custom molded ear plugs. Several smaller companies make them, but it has to be done in person (usually at a gun show or a big match). I forget what brand mine are but there is a local lady who makes the same thing. Those combined with some 25 reduction electronic muffs usually work well on the rare occasion I shoot indoors. I once had an ENT nurse tell me they could also make some. That may be an option for you.

They may not affect reliability but they are more fragile. I figured that was BS until I broke one years ago.

My deciding factor is finding a relatively slim gun that hits the sweet spot between a grip that is long and prints like a broomstick under my t-shirt vs a grip too short to get three fingers on and pinches a blood blister on my palm loading a magazine. The itty bitty whiz-bang double stacks don’t blow up my skirt. My typical carry gun ends up being something along the lines of a Glock 48 (barely), a Springfield EMP4, or a Sig 365X Macro.

Damn you

Grip safeties and thumb safeties prevent trigger movement. We are talking about inertia driving a spring-dampened firing pin into a primer when a gun is dropped, not a trigger actuated ignition. A heavier firing pin spring and/or a lighter firing pin can mitigate this, but ignition reliability can be compromised. A non-drop safe 1911 is much ado about nothing IMO, as opposed to other designs.
-
Well, not exactly. Have you ever heard of a 1911 being dropped and shooting somebody? I haven’t, but it’s happened with other designs.
-
Non-FPS 1911s are definitely not drop safe, but I’m not too worried about it. They may fire if dropped on the muzzle. This is not nearly as worrisome as some makes that may fire if dropped on the hammer, on the side, etc. I would (and do) carry one with no concerns.

FYI - the Omega 300 is a .30 caliber can. You mentioned 8mm, which I assume would be a no-go. -

Yes. HUB = Bravo = 1.375-24 I use a Rearden Atlas mount on my Omega 300. Some of my gun barrels are 1/2-28 and some are 5/8-24, but all have Rearden Q Plan B compatible muzzle devices that work with the Atlas mount.
