An hour or two is plenty for pistol cases. I wouldn’t think rifle cases would require too much more. A powder cop is useful for pistol ammo to prevent a double charge or no charge, but it won’t tell you that you are .2 grains low, etc. No charge shouldn’t be an issue because you just manually charged the case and a double charge will probably spill everywhere. A powder cop makes sense on a progressive setup, but since you are doing a lot of it manually, I don’t think it’s necessary.

How many cases did you dry in the sun? I was drying wet tumbled brass on a cookie sheet with a fan blowing into the case mouths for a couple hours and figured this would be fine. I was wrong. The cases appeared bone dry inside and out, but I started getting an occasional squib, except there was loose powder in the chamber, so not really a squib. I started dehydrating them and the problem went away. This was pistol ammo, but the same could probably happen with rifle ammo. Also, just out of curiosity, why do step 9 if you just manually measured and dropped the powder?

44 wow. How long are they good for? We have a guy at work who had a hip replacement at 29 a couple years ago and needs the other one done (crummy genes). His doctor said the new hip is good for 20 years and he MAY be able to have a second replacement. The math doesn’t look good for him.

From my experience (not knee surgery yet), the doctor fixes you, but the therapist heals you.

I have a CZ 455 that sounds like what you want. It’s a shooter and it looks and carries like a first gen walnut/blue Ruger 77 that somebody threw on the copier and hit 80%. I think I gave $400 for it new three or four years ago. CZ replaced the 455 with the 457, but I assume they are similar size-wise.

I vote for the EMP. I've had three (one 3" and two 4") and I'm a fan. It's small enough to carry and big enough to shoot. Be aware that Springfield 9mm 1911s are notorious for having really tight chamber dimensions. They are happy to send you a label and open up the chamber and feed ramp. By now, hopefully a looser chamber is standard. I'm not a big DA/SA fan, but I can tolerate a CZ that has been worked on by Cajun Gun Works or CZ Custom or at least has some of their parts. Most out-of-the-box DA triggers are just awful, IMO. But take my opinion with a grain of salt - competitive shooting has made me a bit of a trigger snob. As for carrying either one, the holster is everything. They are harder to find, but I like kydex IWB holsters that have the clips in front of and behind the gun, as opposed to next to it. This design makes for a flatter, thinner, more comfortable package.

I use a 9mm and .40 Shock Bottle and I don’t think either one is all that forgiving, at least compared to my Dillon 9 and .40. Now those are pretty forgiving. I would probably look for something tighter if I loaded ammo for Bullseye, but my Shock Bottle will identify potential problem ammo that usually plunks and spins in the gun’s barrel.

Scrooge is a lightweight compared to me. I work at a company that makes you hate December and half of November and January. I am salary and get basically nothing for the extra hours, days, and heartburn. We don’t go bananas on gift buying at Christmas, but I can’t wait til mid-January.

ME ME ME. Different mentality. A stud senior on my daughter’s soccer team blew her knee with two games left. She was more distraught about letting her team down than she was about her scholarship she had just accepted possibly being in jeopardy.

The kneeling thing was the nail in the coffin for me continuing to watch NFL football, but I was already extremely tired of NFL players refusing to practice etc because they demanded $20 million instead of $18 million, or they weren’t the highest paid running back, or whatever. College football didn’t have all that. I assume that will change.

Ha ha, Wolf. The brass colored ones are pretty good, but the nickel colored ones maaaaaay cause the occasional hiccup in striker fired guns. Ask me how I know. I recently found Fiocchi small pistol primers at Sportsman’s Warehouse for $60/1000. They actually had 10 or 12 cases (1500/case for $89.95 or so). I believe components will soon be harder to find (wars/Lake City/Vista/elections) and I was on the lookout for primers, so I bought a few. I told several friends about them. A week or two later, they were up to $75/1000, but they still had several cases. I have no idea why the price increased, unless the Vista announcement spooked Sportsman’s. Whenever I’m down that way again (Southaven, MS), I’ll drop by and see what they have. Anybody else have a Sportsman’s nearby?

If this were all a plan by manufacturers, they may have shot themselves in the foot. People have discovered that Italian Fiocchio and Turkish ZSR primers will work quite well for less money.

Even a couple fellow competitive shooters have given up the game due to lack of available components. A couple years ago, whoever had reliable .22 ammo would win the Steel Challenge match. Participation dwindled. Primer/ammo chaos may be exploited, but long term it can’t assist a business model.

I think the shortage is/was very real. I’ve seen local stores that were reliable sources with 0.0 in stock for several months straight. That doesn’t serve their (retailers or manufacturers) business models. Several smaller bullet companies have closed shop because people are reloading less because they had no primers and therefore didn’t buy bullets. I wasn’t happy to see three of the four American primer manufacturers lumped under the Vista umbrella (Federal/Remington/CCI). I was even less happy when I learned that Vista was recently sold to a Czech group. I’m glad I’m not short on primers.

I haven’t seen primers stocked in meaningful quantities since 2019.

I don’t advocate for panic buying, but with Israel, Ukraine, and an upcoming election, I’m stocking up on primers and powder if I’m a handloader.

I wouldn't know - I’ve never seen it, but it is encouraging that there are folks here who can set aside their rabid disdain for the actors and just enjoy the show.
