  1. I'm hoping that was just fiction.....
  2. The first one to the phone is the victim, is exactly right.
  3. Right and wrong are murky. It is certainly wrong to abuse a spouse or child. It is equally wrong to plant evidence. Do you want to weigh which wrong is worse and make the decision? Not me. Who was it who said better 100 criminals go free than 1 honest man suffer punishment?
  4. True. Because 95% of the time the officer is doing the right thing. So the dash cam confirms his story that no, the suspect was not cooperating. The other 5% of the time is different....
  5. Obama doesn't care about guns. Really. If the issue comes along, he'll side with the antis. But it won't come up. He'll be way too busy with an economy in recession (he'll make it worse) and 2 wars (he'll make those worse too).
  6. Bingo. Unfortunately some officers can't resist the temptation. I will say that dash cams have changed the whole equation.
  7. It was probably the sight of a naked middle aged man more than the gun.
  8. Whether bad guys get off on "technicalities" is irrelevant here. Of course it happens. I hate to see guilty people go free. But the reason they go free is often as not the stupidity and laziness of the officers on duty. How many criminals have gotten off from the "exclusionary rule"? I'll bet plenty. And every case was one where the cops did an improper search and seizure--exactly the kind they are likely to do on you and me. I understand that the temptation to put a real scum-bucket behind bars is great. But scum buckets have rights in this country. And violating them to achieve that is to secure short term gain at long term loss.
  9. Fixed it for ya. The point is that it happens a lot. As for "bad guys" the exact point is that bad guys, drug dealers, pimps, wife beaters, etc have rights. And if they don/t, we don't either.
  10. Not in my recollection. However it even happens in this state.
  11. "Mayonaise." As in "Mayonaise building a load of condos on the ole farmstead. Other betes noires: Irregardless. Does not exist. No such word. Irregardless of what you might hear. Crispy. An itsy-poo word. What's the difference between crispy and crisp? None. Lay/Lie. Everyone gets this wrong.
  12. Oh you mean those things never happen? Wrong.
  13. Don't tell me Otis died.
  14. You gotta spread more often when you're the only girl in town.
  15. I believe all except the "classic" models have the frame mounted firing pin.
  16. That's pretty much it. The Dems have been able to block nominees (remember Bork?). The GOP is too nice to play that game. John Paul Stevens was a Carter appointee and born in 1920. He is probably waiting for the next president before he retires.
  17. Shops that open Saturday are usually closed Mon so the owners get a 2 day weekend like everyone else.
  18. I'll leave it to others to describe what happened at Uselton's last indoor gun range on Conference Dr.
  19. LE's will tell you that you could get the death penalty for littering. What prosecutor is going to go after Joe Citizen for an honest mistake? What grand jury will issue a true bill? What petty jury will convict? It isn't worth it to them to charge honest citizens.
  20. It doesn't matter whether it is a weapon or a lawnmower. Here is the TN Code on defenses for possessing stolen property:
  21. I recently sold a 2" model .357. Fit and finish were fine. I liked them better than Taurus in fact.
  22. I think I threw up a little in my mouth..... These people (Barak and Michelle) are among the most priveliged people in the entire world. Privileged in their upbringing, education, job opportunities, etc. For them to behave like rappers is like John McCain putting on bikers leathers.
  23. Whatever. Condoleeza Rice talks about her sharecropper father in Alabama. Many other Black public figures had similar stories. Sure, Obama grew up Black and I guess identified as such all along. But there is a piece missing. It's those family stories that get passed down that are formative in one way or another. It's one reason I like the South: for plenty of people here the Civil War is a living memory, in the sense that their families were part of it and handed down stories and feelings about it. Despite having a father born in Savannah GA I dont really have those same memories and feelings. And I tend to think that Obama's upbringing and mine weren't all that different.
  24. If he asks you, he doesn't have PC. If he has PC he won't ask you. And if he has PC then there is really no way to refuse. I would make clear that I was doing this under duress and did not give permission. But that would be the extent of it. As for living in small towns, yeah. That's a problem. If the cops take it personally well OK. That isn't my fault.
  25. Nothing threatening about that.
