Rule #1 is dont get into fistfights. Rule#2 is a fist can inflict death or severe bodily harm, so deadly force would be allowed to neutralize that threat. If someone threatens me with his fist I'm pulling the gun. No point screwing around.

I dont see any benefit to open carry other than comfort. That may not be a bad reason under limited circumstances. A lot of it is situational. If you are a white middle class guy in a small town you've spent your whole life in, then its probably fine. If you are Black guy in a working class/inner city neighborhood then I think you'd be crazy to do so. In all I think of people who open carry as a teaching device in roughly the same category as someone who goes around in a thigh drop holster and camo. And people like that make me think gun laws ought to be stricter.

If that Glock doesn't have an Ashley Big Dot on it you might as well just lie down in the gutter and die.

What's The Matter With People? Part 2B

Thanks. It's frustrating because I really feel the area needs more firearms in the hands of capable people. Part of the problem is these people from CA and NY come here and they have no history of self-help or self-defense. So when they end up in a bad situation and police are "minutes away" they really don't know what to do. It is one reason I put the store where it is. So to get someone to come in and lay down good money, only to have him putz out when it comes time to spend a little effort is really frustrating. -
What's The Matter With People? Part 2B

It's not even that. A couple of hours and they ought to be proficient enough to use the gun inside the house. It shouldn't take much. I guess just other priorities. I hope they never have to use it. That on-the-job training can be a killer. -
So I see on the E.Nashville list-serve that there was another home invasion/break in there. About 3 months ago one of the locals came in. He had a wife and a baby and lived in the nice part of the neighborhood. He was concerned about their safety and wanted a firearm. Great, no problem. We went through various options and he settled on a 39-series S&W in 9mm. Not a bad choice at all. I showed him how to load and unload the gun and check for clear, as well as the safety issues. Also how to sight it, etc. He needless to say was new to guns. But I offered that I would be happy to take him and his wife out to my own range and teach them just for the cost of ammo. He said that sounded good. I didnt hear from him so I called to him invite him. Three times. Each time he had something else going on, the last time he thought it would work and he would call me the next day. Never did. Remember, I was happy to teach him and his for free, so it was just ammo cost and their time. No dice. What is the point of having a gun and not really being even mildly proficient in its use?

Buy ammo and range time instead. I never understood the utility of either. For laser grips, they do not make you a better shooter. Since the biggest problem shooters have is keeping the sights aligned when they pull the trigger, laser sights won't help that, they'll just show you where the point of aim is wobbling around. They are OK as training aids, but that's about it. Maybe deterrent as well. For night sights, if you can't see your target well enough to use regular sights, why are you shooting at it? If you can, then you don't need night sights. They wear out and are expensive to replace.

carry ing a gun and asked to leave hypothetical
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Take a look at the feedback section. It's all excellent. Look just because someone has some weird ideas doesnt mean he's a troll or worthy of banning. But we might want to consider gathering around and saying "neeh!" -
Gun is sold. To a white man. Thanks. Matt. Now all you mutha****ers back down.....

Thank you, Mugster. Exactly right.

Never fight with a pig. You can't win and it annoys the pig. -
The .38 J-frame is the gold standard for concealed carry. I dont like the .357s because the only thing you gain is cost, muzzle blast, noise, and recoil. The bullet really isn't any more effective.

Hey, even cheap scotch aint free.

Not really. Here it's interactive. I have to think. I have to research. I get to josh around with friends. Sitting in front of a TV blaring junk that is an insult to my intelligence is just worse than a waste of time.

You obviously are not equipped to engage in this discussion. Thanks for playing.

Even the name is meaningless. I would highly recommend ditching your TVs. You have no idea how blissful it is to avoid such stupidity.

I want to know who the candy-azz kid was in the other avatar. I am sure I should recognize him. But surprisingly, without a TV for like 20 years I never see pop figures.

You are skirting the issue and shirking answering the question. To answer your question: in many countries, especially in Europe, if you defend yourself from attack and kill the aggressor in the process you are the one who will go to jail, regardless of circumstances. If there were a god-given right then it would not be so. I know no such thing. Neither do you. Neither do people actually born in remote parts of any jungle you'd care to name. You are merely asserting something, not proving it. I am in a search for truth. The truth is that there is no such thing as some divine right, any more than there is a divine right of kings. On your theory you can just sit around and assert some right that probably doesn't exist. On my theory we have to work actively to assure that society recognizes that right and acts to enforce it. I realize it is easier just to mouth the Declaration of Independence and mumble on about "I have a right to this that and the other." Real thought is difficult and painful. If so, then please state what that is. You are merely asserting without showing what the difference is. They separate between the good guys and the bad guys. The good guys have permits, the bad guys dont. It also makes for an easy way for people to become informed about their rights, duties, and responsibilities as gun owners/bearers. Sure they could go get it some other way, but most won't.
