The AR and it's 223, will blow a leg or head right off!
Erich replied to Erich's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sounds like that kind of expert may be making it's rounds. In conjunction with this was was another article that was similar to the one your referring to. It was an female Indian ‘trauma surgeon’ who is actually an anti gun activist. Her premise was the AR is not survivable, with enough factual info on velocity, cavitation, and footage of fragmentation in ballistic gel to make her next leaps easy for the anti gunners to buy. She went on to infer how much safer handgun accidents at home are for children playing with a gun they found, as they can pretty much always save them. Leaving out placement, a directed shot vs AD peripheral wound, etc., leaving out the typical use case of ARs being deliberate shootings and taking info from .gov studies and development of the round. The leap and inference in relation to children was there are equal numbers of young kids playing with ARs shooting themselves as if its comparable to them playing with handguns. Sure….. that sounds right? Hell, a I’m sure it would be easy to find at least one person with to much time on there hands who will run out to youtube to find “proof” that ARs always blow heads clean off and expect everyone is confused enough to think it’s a thing. -
I do avoid most media, as its primarily biased. Every once in a while you see something go by you can't leave alone. Today that was the media trying to feed the uninformed some misrepresentations about the AR and its round with the help of Charleston officials. I won't bore you the details around the misrepresentations, but a couple pics from the screen seem to summarized well. Sorry for the low quality. Some 'expert' disinformation from the Charleston.

That was the thing I had some choice words for, I settled on calling it theater trying to be mindful while cursing to myself. What amazes me the most is how their mindless supporters can be ok with these tactics, without any regard for the trauma it could inflict and loose morals it took to take advantage of this child. It seems so transparent. Speaks volumes about their support base in addition to the complete hypocrisy of ‘looking out for kids’. It’s surely a sign of desperation. They know they can’t win on logical merits, so trying to froth up an angry mob with pitchforks and torches is where they went.

Story developing. Buzz words flying. Officials reported there were multiple victims following what one lawmaker described as a “mass shooting” in the Maryland town of Smithsburg on Thursday

No surprises here with the house https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/08/politics/house-gun-reform-package-vote/index.html And the theater continues

heck, If it looks like it’s happening, I’d be tempted to max a card buying a bunch of lowers. -
Thanks. Some of their Gen 3 autos wouldn’t be bad either

Challenge accepted! Sold my 5” 629. If you find yourself with an extra 4” double lug 44mag Smith…. Been keeping my eyes open for a 329, but they are a bit more scarce than they used to be.

As proposed it would exempt private party sales, so you pocket what you sell it for. All the rare Colt dollars you get for that beater PSA truck gun With going the reconciliation route, they would make it easier, only simple majority. Question is can the usual holdouts be swayed by the revenues. Probably comes down to incentives around bill packaging. -
Are you taking requests for things to add to the for sale list before your trip??

I like what you did there! They jockeying now seems to be how they are bundling. Or in this case keep them out of the that for to avoid the GOP. I want to agree it all seems to be a bridge too far. But the environment of wokeness and how it’s sticking unlike prior iterations does give me pause that all things blue with today’s much larger social media drivers seem a greater concern. Question on convenient timing. Let’s say brainwashing and they like ala Bourne is out as plausible. How does one envision this working? Are these individuals identified and watched, being kept under control until needed? As in .gov knows of a population of wakadoodles and normally denies them access and opportunity by intervening until it’s self serving? At which time they do intervene with a select few in the hopes that one of their ‘operators’ can successfully carry out a necessary event? -

Yep, no matter how you mix and match the concept, variations allow plenty of wiggle room. Btw, in your example, that built lower came in @ $600. A little blue lean at that price, it maybe a bit too boutique -

"apply only to future assault weapon sales" Anything under the made up term 'assault rifle' as defined by existing proposed Federal ban submitted by 2 known gun hating lib Senators: https://cicilline.house.gov/press-release/cicilline-feinstein-introduce-assault-weapons-ban The later only sets the definition fortunately (just short of the red rider bb gun). Private in state sales still allowed, so the contents of your safe would drastically increase in value. Would drive more folks to build their own and/or makers working with some creative workarounds. Example invoice lines: AR15 sporting rifle / lower - $ .01 mandatory cleaning kit - $899.00 for complete rifle, $100 for lower only -
Sadly too true. Keep wanting to believe people want to think for themselves and ask the right questions. Have to keep reminding myself its not stupidity as much as bad actors using misrepresentations and leaps in logic against a group that is simply ignorant in the subject area and won't educate themselves for a number of reasons.

Throw in our own little Scenic City taking Chi towns lead of banger like activity! Last night there was a multiple shooter incident at a club. They are trying to throw in some numbers from the vehicular injuries (1 car fatality) for those that ran into traffic as they segued to Oklahoma and TX as if they are identical events. I would love to see the administration explain how assault weapons bans are going to stop 99.9% of "gun violence" deaths that dont involve AR's or 30rd mags. The irony being the largest share of the numbers may involve their constituents that put them in office (for the ones that having lost their right to vote that is) versus the demo they are coming after.

AR15 bolt and carrier cleaning tools
Erich replied to tercel89's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've got an odis bone tool which works OK for getting the majority, Fits varies by carrier spec. Its not meant to get is spotless. results are much better than the type of tool you're currently using, maybe a hair quicker. I picked up a ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight, and that does a decent job of getting the remainder. Or at least to the level I am happy with. Guillty admisstion, I stopped cleaning my 556 AR's after each firing. Only at the point that I noticed they are getting sticky going out of battery when charging, or going to battery if when not loading a round. The 308's seem more finicky so every other trip. -
Received it yesterday. The overall dimensions are larger than its 9mm counterpart, primarily more width, with possibly some front to back increase in the grip area. Similar to Large frame Glock compared to standard frame, but to a lesser degree (SF frame for the Glock folks). As delivered with medium backstrap, seems to favor pretty large mitts. I tend to wear large gloves and found it generous and moved down to the small backstrap to get it closer to my XDM9 which has the medium backstrap on it. Even with that change, circumference was about 4 - 5mm greater around the 10's grip. Trigger breaks relatively clean at an avg of 5lbs 2oz. with medium short reset. Have PRP bits in my 9 which make the 10 feel heavy, but realistically pretty decent trigger out of the box. Have yet to fire it, but based on feel in comparison to the 9, I want to add the gas pedal and ext mag release. Will hold off on the trigger until I shoot it a bit to see how it wears in. The mags are the standard mags for the earlier 10mm with extended base plates. Comes with the standard 15rnd flat plates. Pleasant surprise is with the factory ext plate, they aren't just +1 plates (at least mine weren't). I am able to get 17 rounds in the mags without a fuss, giving capacity of 17+1 over the advertised 16+1

Being an aviation fan, I pined for a Speedmaster in my younger days. Not feasible at the time, It started me down the road of a handful of Seiko’s over the years. You never forget your first, bought it at the BX in 1985. Keeps perfect time 37 years on. Hopefully it being quartz doesn’t distract, in it’s day it was a groundbreaker.

Interesting Article on Mental Health
Erich replied to aknifemaker's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not sure of your context. In general not a reason to ignore pursuing a course of action to deal with a broken system ignoring the real problem. In this case, the shooter threatened to go on murder - suicide spree at his school. The cops arrested him, state mandated mental eval and hospitalization. That’s a criminal matter. Not an elective insurance coverage situation. The state, the police, and facility all failed in their duty. Blaming insurance for systemic views on mental health is helping the bad guys make excuses for not addressing it and going after 2A…cause it’s easier, unfortunately. -

The video at the end of the article, mental illness as the next pandemic is worth a look if you haven’t done so. It touched on how one of the recent shooters was brought into a mental facility beforehand, but the system is set up to not care and sweep it under the rug and get them out asap. -
Sadly the facts aren’t an obstacle for them, they will find a spin they can use. Their base is pretty flexible mentally and don’t let minor details like facts or justification get in the way.

I look more at composition or distribution of mass vs overall weight. Bore axis being another piece. Long slides may have more reciprocating mass, but that would be a factor without an appropriate recoil spring. A forward weight bias would counter the initial flip though. Think of a standard govt model vs commander length as an example. Target pistols have added weight for good reason. But none of the tricks are intended to make up for what may be lacking with technique.

Hardly. Typical cycle. Media makes the person infamous, deranged copy cat wants his time. The media circus and here they cover this is why we are getting a bunch.

They did a nice job on the repark. Nice features in the new wood. How is the front ferrule to opp rod clearance? That's the only thing I seen on some of the CMP stocks, they cut the front tongue to high so the ferrule is proud the op rod channel.

No doubt, ended up with less than ideal phrasing / word choice on my part when I left that behind from the original wording. Feels like omitting a NOT at inopportune times. Its was not really intended to be devils advocate in this case. The left’s reaction is simply not realistic or tenable to have any measure of support. But I do believe that folks, if they really feel this needs to change, have to realize that some radically different thinking is needed around individuals and things as a society we have issues with addressing. A cultural shift on perceptions for mental well being across a lifetime and the things that effect it. And can they make these changes. Mitigating fear based responses. I don’t see that folks will be accepting of the need, or willing to give up behaviors they are to dysfunctionally tied to. I’m reading it in much of the comments, whether people see it as a moral compass, values, religion, etc. All these things define a society’s cultural base. Changing that requires some (perceived) radical perspective shifts. And that is without the influence of whoever actually controls the socials, which is a huge conflicting factor in democratized society. Its the socials that I believe make this an impossible task, as long their plague is allowed to exist.
