I enjoyed carrying my Kimber Pro Carry II for the winter months. Unfortunatly, for summer months it wasn't the best thing. Everyone is different for a reason, the only thing you can do is to try it and test it. If ya like it, keep it, if ya don't, go on to the next gun......lord knows there's too many choices these days to not at least try something once.... Basic 1911 with different sites seems to be the decent choice to start out with....

The Airweight was bought for the wife cause she liked it at the time of purchase, after shooting it though, she decided on a G19. The 19-3 was my Papaw's carry weapon for Knox city and Knox County. A beautiful family airloom now. Definatly a shooting favorite.....

^^^ That sure is purdy. If I found one that looked as good as yours or 70belows' (from his thread), I'd keep it as is in it's pristine condition. However, since I found my Norinco in parts, I figured it'd be better as a bubba'd SKS since it has no real value if I tried to put it back in factory configuration.

First off, remember I said pemit holders SHOULD be bonded. I said nothing about me being bonded.....and yes you still sounded like a smart ass. No big deal though. LICENSE BOND (FINANCIAL GUARANTEE) This type of bond guarantees payment of a sum of money required of the Principal in connection with his line of business or actions pursuant to the license holder which has been granted to him/her by the state of Tennessee. This is the type of bond I have. Nothing special. $500,000 worth of coverage for $137.00 a month or $1600 a year. Having good credit and owning your home give you a better % rate depending on the ammount you want to be bonded for. Much like car or home owners inurance. In general it means if you are arrested and need to "post bond", you will pay nothing out of your pocket to a bail bondsmen. Your insurance bond takes care of the bail. If you are eventually cleared of all charges and end up with a civil lawsuit being sued for x-ammount of money, depending on the ammount of your bond, IF you're found guilty, your insurance bond will cover the settlement to the ammount of your bond BEFORE you pay out of pocket. To some it's worth it, to some it's not. Some will be involved in a shooting situation in thier lifetime and some will not. Some will chace it, others won't. You decide for yourself and your situation.

Congrats on the Glock purchase. We're all sure you'll be happy with it. One of these days I might end up getting a G17 to add to my G26 and G19....just haven't felt the need for a full sized one yet....

A friend of mine has a set on his G17. He used a vise and a wooden dowl drift pin to remove/replace his rear sight. Yes, he got it centered perfectally by taking his time tapping the new one into it's "premarked, predetermined" place. He used a metal punch to knock out the front sight and the new one screwed in. I believe they provide you with a "socket deal, type thing" so you can tighten down the nut. He absoutly loves them but his G17 is for home defense only. They are easily seen and used by his wife as well so they work for both of them. Me, however, I don't like the sight picture. I've recently put Ghost Ring night sights on my G26 and absoutly love them. Others don't like them. Your sights need to accomodate you and the life style you'll be using them in. Is it a home defense gun or a carry gun?? In my friends situation, will they work well for those whom might need to use them such as a spouse?? They need to work for you first and you need to be comfortable with them. Besides, if you ever decide you don't like them, sell'em and go on the the next set you think might work well for you and your application....

Actually, the case will seperate and go one way (or many different ways if it explodes and creats shrapnel) and the bullet will go the other way. There may not be much velocity behind the bullet but it would have the possibility of hitting someone or some thing. (Kinda like hitting a .22lr round with a BB gun....of which I stupidly did as a kid) Your liability issues would be the same no matter what happened. Once your pistol is out of it's holster, you are assuming a deadly threat is upon you......ANYTHING you do after you pull your pistol, is all on you. If your gun explodes and the slide hits some old lady in the face, you are now responsible for any harm that comes upon her. Remember, if the old lady happens to get shot and die because you pulled out your weapon to defend her, you are now liable and more than likley headed for a civil suit for her death........ Bottom line, you pull your weapon in self defense.....you are responsible for almost everything that can/could go wrong. One reason people who carry legally should be bonded for the highest ammount they can afford to pay in premiums.

Black Tip??? Like 7.62x39 that has a black tip?? What ammo are you talking about?? Apperantly that has to be the only 7.62x39 ammo I've never had my hands on so now I'm curious. Tried everything else under the sun from Federal PowerShock (for hunting) to the cheapest surpluss you can buy (for plinking). Please...more info on said black tip cartridges.

You sure that "expanding plastic" was your problem?? Sounds like there may have been trigger issues in hot weather but I doubt anything had expanded from the general heat caused by a summer day to screw things up.

If you're up to the challenge, I say why not try it once. If it works out in your favor and the hunt/kill is satisfactory, then you could have some serious braggin rights....

Winchester packs their 7.62x39 in styrofoam as well............

I don't claim to know the scientific reasons behind "dirty/clean" ammo, but I have definatly noticed a difference between my practice ammo and my SD ammo. My practice ammo is usually Wolf, Winchester, PMC, Remmington, GA Arms or other cheapies found at Walmart or other similar places. After 100rds the entire chamber is usually black as well as the tip of the muzzel. Litterly you cannot see the color of the barrel through the powder residue it's so thickly laid on there..... My SD ammo, which has varied over the years, have seemed to be "cleaner" shooting ammo. Examples are 124gr Ranger, Hornady CD 115gr and 124gr TAP, MagTech, Corbon, Rem Golden Sabers and Win Supreme SXT. Not sure why but after 100rds, I can still see color of the barrel through the powder residue. You can see the layer of gunk but it isn't as thick as the practice stuff.... Guess that's my only defination of dirty vs. clean. One would assume they make SD ammo with better componets vs. the cheap crap they know everyone will be using at the range.....

I grew up around handguns and was always taught that every firearm IS LOADED WITH ONE IN THE CHAMBER and to always treat them as so until I myself, detach the mag, clear the chamber and leave/lock the slide open (if possible). Having been taught that at a very young age, I never have worried about carrying anything loaded. EVER!! For those whom are worried about carrying one in the pipe, do so at home in YOUR comfort zone until you get used to it. If you leave the house, practice a quick clearance drill to empty the chamber, reholster and be on your merry way.

I've shot an LDA and loved it....unfortunaty, I don't like the prices of most Para products..... I've also shot the Hawg 9 and wasn't impressed. Felt too thick and uncomfortable in my hands....

WOW!! Went through this whole thread finally.....and I must say, I think I need to find a "black" rifle now. Never been big on the "AR/M4" hype but you guys sure know how to dress'em up real good.....makin'em look all purdy and such.....

I've shot the KelTec's and yes they can hurt the shooters hands, yes they can be inaccurate if the shooter can't handle the the thing. KelTecs' always seem to be hit or miss or at least they used to be that way. I've known 100 or so people that have had the P11 and some say it's a reliable weapon and others gripe about having to keep sending it back to KelTec. My personal opinion is that the newer models are usually running fine. However, I personally do not recomend carrying one as a main gun. As a back up is totally fine. I'd carry one to back up my G26 if I ever did decide to carry a back up that is. Decent little guns that fill a nitch in society. Like cars, sometimes you get a lemon but in most cases, those that do get the lemons, usually end up turning around and getting rid of it.

Is this a yearly event?? I'd love to make it and I'm sure it'd be fun but I would need more time to plan so I can have the hotel etc. covered and the time off of work.

Hmmm...if Oak Ridge actually goes......I don't think E. TN has a chance to wipe their butts before death arrives. Between the "Ridge", Watts Bar, Bull Run and other "power producing" plants in the area, we all just go boom and vaporize. Damns break, gass lines break....between all the carnage of the aftermath due to floods, fires and storms and the actuall "necular" explosion.....we all iz dead!

Kids are awsome...my 3yr old surprises me everyday.
