Yea, the K6, while cool and vintage, is not the greatest scope. The coating is starting to come off the glass, and it does not have the best light gathering abilities. but it looks really cool.

So I did the same thing to the Sears branded Winchester I have. Its factory finish was meh. It was a harder finish to remove, and I ended up having to use Citrus Strip to get the hard finish off. I still used the acetone/0000 steel wool and denatured alcohol/0000steel wool for the final prep. The rifle as got it from chance77. The finish was much better than on the Model 45, but I still thought it had more potential. After stripping with citrus strip, acetone and denatured alcohol. I think I left a remnant of finish. After the first two applications of the Winchester Restorations Stock Oil (a tinted linseed oil recipe devised by long time Winchester restorer John Kay) After a few more applications and time to cure. (the lighting is different in the last photo. It did end up darker than above, but not quite as drastically as it looks)

I thought the same thing, but some of the design didn’t jive with a pre-64 date.

By 74, at least they had most of the kinks worked out from the changes implemented after ‘63.

Please don’t sand the wood if you can help if you can help it. If you haven’t restored the wood on an old lever gun, I can give some tips.

Based on inflation, if you add up what I paid for the rifle, shipping, tax, and FFL fees. I’m right about there with paying the same price.

SBR it with a 10” 300BO, a can, and a 20rnd mag (I just don’t like the look of a 30rnd p-mag) and it would be a pretty sweet rifle. I do wish they did not use the term “AR” I worry it will make the “antis” start looking negatively at lever guns. Maybe call it a “modular magazine fed lever action”

Speaking of lever guns, have any of you seen this: https://www.offgridweb.com/gear/new-bond-arms-lever-action-ar-15/amp/ It will be a Lever action lower for AR uppers. Kind of f-ugly, but a suppressed, 300BO lever would be kind of cool.

Hi, I'm Briggs, and I'm a leveraholic. It's been 19 days since I bought a lever gun..... So, the Sears Model 45 (Sears branded Marlin 336RC) in 35 Remington arrived and she is sweet. The bluing is in really good condition for a 59 year old girl. The furniture is in great shape except for the finish. I removed the wood and stripped the old finish off using denatured alcohol, acetone and hexane. I used my Winchester Stock oil (slightly tinted linseed oil mixed with mineral spirits) to do a hand rubbed oil finish on the wood. These photos are after the first application. Several applications, with curing between, were ultimately used. Here is how she looks now with a vintage Weaver K6 scope. I can't wait to get her out and put some lead down range.

I use Music City Pawn. Not really SW Nashville but they are good folks. Used to be $25 but it recently bumped up to $40, plus the $10 background.

Another source to get a feel for current values is GunBroker.You will have to search the completed sales, then it’s best to sort those by number of bids (most to least). This will give you a feel for the interest in the sale. Just remember that sometimes folks go a little stupid on GB and get in a bidding war. I usually look at multiple sales and then try to come up with an average value based on guns of the same condition. I also then price depending upon how quickly I want to move the fire arm.
