You like a challenge! I hope it all works out in the end for you. I think I'd have gathered up some .410 hulls over time from the skeet range, while scouring classifieds for a used MEC .410 loader and then gone with the 209 primers (hoping for a sale to pop up at some point.) But that's me. I like to "beat the system" as much as the next guy, but time has shown the 'shortcut' usually ends up costing about the same as just following the normal route, in the long run. But you are a crafty & persistent guy, so I'm not betting against you @DeepSouth!

You know it's serious gun when you have to wear a gas mask to fire it

So good to hear your labs are showing all is well. The pills you have to take sound like serious business. Wow. Definitely want to keep those out of kids reach. Seems weird to swallow something they don't want you to touch with your hands. Such is the oddity of fighting cancer with chemo. I hope it does the trick & wipes out any lingering cancer cells.

Score! You finally got your .410 and for a good price. Hopefully the reloading goes well & you're shooting sooner rather than later.

More bad weather for West and Middle TN. 02 and 03 April 2025 Edition.
Frog4aday replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Yes, everything seems to get dramatized in regards to weather now. I can't tell if that is to suck in viewers to boost ratings or perpetuate the "climate change" narrative. Maybe both. Or neither. But I've been under more tornado watches & warnings here in west Tennessee in 5 years than I ever saw in 10 years living in "tornado alley" (central TX/OK border.) It really does feel like tornado alley has shifted eastward over time. Seriously has me looking at a tornado shelter for the house as if feels like a "when" scenario, not an "if" situation. -
I'd love to get a 686 at that price (truly a 'steal & a deal' @ $650) but with so many horror stories on S&W lack of quality since covid (mid-2020 to now) they have me looking for a dash 3 or dash 4 model (i.e., older model gun.)

$52 for a 25lb bag of shot is pretty good these days, but it sounds like someone kind of donated some reloading 'goods' to you, which is why the shooting community continues to surprise; the generosity is second to none. I hope you can get that pawn shop .410 for a $100 and you'll be all set.

The .30 Carbine headspaces on the case mouth, like the 9mm & .45ACP, meaning it must be taper crimped, not roll crimp. I would assume your dies are made to apply a taper crimp, but if it looks like your loaded rounds have the brass curved in toward the bullet, like a .38 Special or .357 Magnum cartridge, it will allow your .30 Carbine cartridge to move fwd under impact from the firing pin, failing to ignite. Try less crimp and see if that gets ignition back to normal.

Glad to hear the brain cancer appears to be gone. What a blessing. I hope you get back to a point you can sit down & enjoy a meal like you used to. One step at a time, I suppose.

The price of primers (and other reloading supplies) is painful. I keep waiting for the decline back to "normal" but it is feeling more and more that these prices ARE the new norm. Glad you got some primed hulls. That'll get you started.

Dang, I had no idea a PET scan took two hours. That's a long time to hold still in one position. I am not envious DeepSouth!
-
I'm pretty sure my sister married that guy! Hot glue and duct tape were his go to "tools".
-
I'm glad your blood tests look good! That's encouraging. I hope the PET scan shows all is good, too. Hopefully you hear from the gastro doc today. I'm sorry to hear your son is experiencing numb legs associated with his back pain. That is troubling and I hope they can get him right again quickly without surgery. He sounds like a great kid.

Since you asked for opinions, here's mine: SELL IT If it ever did 'accidentally' go off and hurt you or your wife, you'd never forgive yourself because the P320 just going off is a 'thing' and you knew about it. It's not worth the risk when there are so many other great options out there that aren't just going off in holsters for no apparent reason.

Recommend a commute motorcycle brand/model.
Frog4aday replied to maroonandwhite's topic in General Chat
Speaking of break-in for the helmet, I always found Shoei helmets gave me a 'hotspot' (red area from too much contact) right in the center of my forehead. I'd have to get a spoon, and using the back rounded part I'd compress the forehead styrofoam a bit at a time until the hotspot was gone. But I'd keep getting Shoei helmets again and again because they were such great quality. Come to find out I have an Arai head, which is to say a "long-oval" head! Specifically the Signet series helmets. (Arai makes helmets for "round heads", too; the Quantum series). Now I wear Arai helmets and they fit right from the get go and that's nice. But dang if they aren't really proud of their product and price it accordingly. If you are getting a sore spot in your forehead, try the back of a spoon trick to work the styrofoam a little flatter and eventually you'll get it the way you like. I can't really help w/the ratchet strap to the Adam's apple conundrum. Hopefully you can figure out a way to sort that out. -

@maroonandwhite Getting a Shoei helmet for a good price was a major score. Their quality is top notch. Fullface was also a really good decision. Hopefully you never test that helmet's protective abilities but should the day come, you'll be so glad you got what you did. Hopefully you are having fun on the bike & enjoy commuting with it. Riding everyday, even if just back & forth to work, really helps keep the skills up. The KLR650 is a versatile, go-anywhere ride that should be a reliable tool for many, many years. Since those tires have tubes, I would suggest putting in some Slime to keep you from getting a fast flat from thorns or nails & screws. Tubeless tire lose air more slowly (i.e., more safely); Slime kind of gives you a similar safety margin in a tubed tire. Just a suggestion based on hard-earned experience. -
It sounds like you picked the right day to go look for shotgun hulls. Hopefully you got some good ones (Win AA and Rem STS.)

Ticks are a never ending scourge. Glad you discovered & removed them quickly @DeepSouth.

I hate when those power window motors go bad. Pricey to fix, a nuisance to access and - as happened to you - something else in the door (pwr windows) got jacked up in the process requiring more time & money. Ugh. You are a patient and busy man @DeepSouth. I'm troubled by your bleeding. Are you on blood thinners? You might check in w/your doctor to get your clotting levels checked out since you shouldn't bleed so easily. (Check your prothrombin time [PT] and International Normalized Ratio [INR] tests.) Or not. What do I know?

Gun is taller than the kid!

Well Thank God you weren't able to send the money! Scammers are rampant now. Sad. But glad you managed to come out of it w/all your money still in your account.
-
I hope you didn't get scammed. "Want to buy" posts (you 'asked for brass') bring all the scammers around (sadly). They had you send the money to their "son's account"? That's a common red flag it's a scam. It's never THEIR account. It's a wife, or son, or daughter. Ugh. Tedious dealing w/these crooks. I hope PayPal refunds your money. You did not use "friends & family", I hope? PayPal could still be squirrely about it since it is "gun related". For a while they were freezing accounts and screwing with people who were selling or buying brass and projectiles. Keep us posted. I'm curious how it all turns out. As for your cell phone, if you can't reach AT&T, try going into one of their stores. They'll tell you they can't help you but maybe you get a sympathetic manager who bends the rules a bit & assists anyway. They did that for my mother-in-law. (She's an AT&T pre-paid customer having problems like you.)

Thanks for clearing that up @chance77. Not cool for the guy ( @FireWatchNash ) to post "I'll take it", then flake on you. Looks like a nice shotgun, especially for the price. In the first picture you have, the camera angle & lighting are just right to show some tiger-stripe figure in the buttstock, which looks very nice. I think if you could tell people what the choke constriction is, you'd be on your way to a sale. Imp Cyl & Mod? Mod & Full? Skeet & Skeet? If you have calipers, you could measure each barrel (muzzle end) and look up the constriction based on your measurements. Just a thought, trying to help you git'r sold. This chart should assist:

Uh...did @FireWatchNash NOT buy this yesterday with his "I'll take it" post? Just curious what's going on.

ad closed Traded Custom Ruger Redhawk 44 mag 7in
Frog4aday replied to I am Groot!'s topic in Firearms Classifieds
Those trapazoidal ports are called MAGNAPORTING and they reduce recoil about 15% (for two ports like yours has.) They do a four port setup also, which ups the recoil reduction to about 20%. Anyway, its a pro/plus to have it done on a .44 mag. The ports are cut with EDM (electrical discharge machining). It is very precise and very clean. It leaves no burrs in the barrel whatsoever. Impressive stuff. Beautiful gun that is well setup for hunting. GLWS.
