  1. Well stated.
  2. Point taken on 1911s. I had one a couple of years ago that was mass produced GI model and I sold it. It just wasn’t accurate at all. I knew if I started putting better components on it, I would end up building the whole thing over again. I posted last week about a Tisas that I bought that I thought would be the same, but it is both tight and accurate. Maybe I got lucky- I had no plans to upgrade anything. I try to buy pistols that are already as I like them, but the 1911 world is a different animal.
  3. This is a general question and NOT directed at anyone. I have seen pistols for sale in the past that have various customizations- some heavily customized. Most list the custom features and the costs, which are usually added to the asking price. I tend to not be interested in heavily altered pistols- stippled, cerakoted, aftermarket barrels, etc., even if it is a little discounted, let alone listed at a premium. I think it’s because I see them as someone else’s dream gun that didn’t work out like they wanted. I prefer unaltered stock pistols. I’m interested in other views on this, as I might not be thinking correctly.
  4. I’m looking forward to this trigger- if it’s as good as it’s supposed to be. We’ll see.
  5. Thanks-I appreciate the link!
  6. I have a gift card for Cabelas- I’ll check that Vortex out. Thanks!
  7. I haven’t used magnets because a buddy warned me about magnetizing the gun and particles jamming it up. Reading about others using them for years, though, makes me rethink using them. Magnets would be very convenient in the car, under my desk, and other spots. Any recommendations on brands and sources?
  8. I suppose that will result in our enemies being able to purchase the 50’s. This purchase could not have happened without US govt approval, could it?
  9. That’s good to know- I may order a full-size model if the stock holds out.
  10. I ordered a Tisas 1911 Carry in stainless two weeks ago with low expectations. I own a Colt 1911 in 10mm and have owned a couple of Colt 1911s in 45 acp and a Springfield Armory 1911, so I have a good baseline. I ordered the Tisas from Classic Firearms for $399, so again, low expectations. The fit and finish are really good, and it comes with a cleaning kit, two mags and a waterproof carry case. I’ve only run 100 rounds through it, but the trigger is much nicer than expected. I’m waiting for some major flaw to appear, but so far I am pleased- it’s a pleasure at the range. I don’t know that it would ever be my carry- that’s why I have Sigs and Glocks- but I thought I would share in case anyone is looking for a budget 1911 that feels much more expensive. Also, I like that SDS had Knoxville TN engraved on the frame. The same model in blue is $579 at my LGS. FYI- I have no connection to CF. In fact, I’m not a fan of them usually.
  11. You assume correctly. I had forgotten about the Lite Rack.
  12. Looking for a Ruger LCP II 380
  13. I appreciate the input from everyone. The issue for me is not having a safety vs not having a safety, but double action versus single action. My other carry is a P365, so I’m carrying that pistol in single action mode as well. I’ll keep my LCP II for the time being. I carry in a leather pocket holster that I made, and it is sufficient to protect the trigger. I might have been looking for an excuse to buy the LCP Max- I am susceptible to firearms manufacturer marketing, especially when they increase round capacity. Or make a stainless model. Or improve the sights or grips. Or when I’m bored. Or when my wife says “Don’t you have enough guns?”. “No, I don’t- I’m going out for a bit-I’ll be back later”.
  14. 43 unexpended factory rounds with 7 expended brass. All factory Winchester, Cowboy Action Lead Flat Nose. I shoot 45 Colt now, so would trade 1:1 or sell if someone needs them. I’m in Knoxville.
  15. I’m looking for an early-mid 1990’s P220 in .45 acp. I’m looking to replace the one I bought and carried on duty for 10 yrs as a national park ranger in Colorado- the govt. provided a P229 in 9mm, but we could carry the P220 in .45 if we bought our own. I was on the bear mgt team, so bought my own. I had to sell it 15 years ago when times weren’t so good and my then-young son needed expensive meds that insurance denied. Anyway, if anyone has one from that era and is interested in parting with it, I’d be interested in buying even if it has some wear on it- mine had been through a lot. I’ve included a picture of the pistol style. It had the plain grips and no rail. Thanks
  16. I have read a lot on both sides about the LCP II being essentially cocked and ready to fire whenever a round is in the chamber, but no safety. The LCP II is my favorite -and only- pocket carry, and I have zero complaints. It’s accurate enough, easy to handle and a dot of bright red on the front sight and I’m good. I have read many articles saying that it’s unsafe to carry. I carried a Sig P220 with decocker and no safety on duty for many years, so I don’t mind the lack of safety, but I’ve always had a decocker so that the first shot is DA. I’ve considered the LCP Max because it is supposed to be a DAO pistol, but I don’t know if the safety issue on LCP II is a real concern or not. I’d like to read other opinions if anyone has thoughts on this.
  17. Thanks- I don’t travel to Nashville into next year.
  18. Bump with lower price
  19. Yes it’s the stainless steel model. I’ve included a picture of the label on the case (BSS).
  20. Sig P232 .380 auto. I bought this for my wife, but she prefers her S&W 642, so I need to sell. It comes with two magazines and the original case, plus factory Hogue grip. $445
  21. I have had many chances to buy range guns where I’m a member, and I passed them all by with no regrets except one. At the start of the pandemic they put out a Sig MPX for $1,400. It had the stew shot out of it and I thought it a bit too much for what it was. I found out a year later that another guy bought it, sent it to Sig to be refurbished for $500, and sold it when it came back for $4,000- only one I regret not buying.
  22. S&W Model 686 .357 magnum. I carried it on duty in the desert Southwest and then In the Rockies. Desert heat, forest fires, road patrol, dust, dirt, rain, mud , snow, and it always cleaned up good as new. More importantly, it never jammed or failed in any way, and it shot better than I did.
  23. I'm sure some of you are familiar with Selco Bagovic, who survived the war in Bosnia Herzegovina in the 1990's. I went back to re-read some of what he wrote about those 3 years living under siege, and found a particularly sobering post of his. Just how close are we to the dark forces of societal chaos? You can judge for yourself: Daisy Luther from The Organic Prepper also contacted Selco for an interview. We highlight a couple of the Q&As and you can go to her site if you’d like to read the rest (she focuses on politics and the US situation). Q: What parallels do you see with events in the US and Bosnia before the SHTF? US and Yugoslavia (in 1990) on first look do not have anything in common because people are going to say, “The USA cannot have anything similar to any socialistic system.” This is true but only on first look. Yugoslavia had somewhere around 20-22 million citizens, six republics (similar to states in the US), 3-4 main religions, and many national groups (ethnicity). The official state policy was to build Yugoslavian “nationality” (from the end of WW1) and through different ways that effort was successful until the 90s. We were “something big, united through differences with a strong connection to make something big.” And then those differences were used to make chaos. In the late 80s and beginning of the 90s (when democracy came) the problems started and ended up in series of wars and cases of complete collapse. Things that I experienced in my case prior to SHTF, and things that you might recognize: Things that make differences between people are more and more problematic (race, religion, political opinion). Polarization is getting obviously stronger. People want to come to your country, but they do not want to “assimilate” or contribute to the greater good. They want to preserve their way of life which is often absolutely contradictory to the way that your country (society) works. The political way of solving those problems often fails, because, in essence, those problems are hard to solve in a democratic way (in the spirit of democracy). Your freedoms are “shrinking” as a result of that. Calls for “radical solutions“ for the problems are stronger and stronger. The media is absolutely working a dirty job, and it is hard to find out what is the truth anymore. Suddenly people and events from history are “brought back” so people can judge and argue about it, to write history again, to build myths sometimes. Q: Anything else to add? I have seen many people killed, a lot of women and children too, civilians. A huge number of people suffered, were hungry and cold and were terrified through that period. But I can count on one hand the dead or hungry politicians in that time. Things were good for them through that period. Some of them ended up even richer. A lot of them are still powerful in the same or different parties, and are still talking about “their people” or “ causes” or “fear from others”. It is the way it works.
  24. Thanks very much. These are very helpful.
  25. Any experience or advice on reloading 44-40 with black powder? I have an original Winchester 1873 and I’d like to try shooting it with period rounds. I found a forum online, but for powder quantity it advised “as much as you can fit in the case and still seat the bullet”. I’m skeptical of this kind of advice with anything, but especially with substances that burn rapidly. Any advice?
