Modern pentathlon. Pretty cool sport. It's meant to test the skills needed by a Calvary officer escaping custody behind enemy lines. Fencing, pistol, running, equestrian and swimming. And the horse they ride is randomly assigned to them as if they stole it.

With my eyes I'm a big fan of optics for any kind of distance. I use a lupold scope on my S&W .357 for white tail, a green dot on my Glock 40 for hogs. But for EDC if I'm far enough away to need optics, I'm planning on running!

I watched a little archery this morning. They have stayed pretty close to their roots... Recurve bows, no rear sights, no mechanical releases, 77 yards. And no age limit so us old farts can play too.
-
They also changed the modern pentathlon to use laser pistols.

Lots of wisdom in this thread. Where you hit is way more important than what you hit with. Choose the gun you will carry. I'm a big fan of the Keltec P32 but I'm learning to love the micro 9 Practice. Lots.

I'm always suspicious of any takedown system that separates the optics from the barrel. They often need to be zeroed after assembly. I'd love to see one in action.

It is my understanding that use of drones to establish probable cause is still in the courts. I think they are currently grounded.

Good question. I'll play... First I'll say that I really have no idea why the shooter missed Trump but I'll offer some possibilities. Could have been divine intervention. Maybe God directly intervened for the good of the country. Could have been blind dumb luck. Could have been Satan jumping in to keep chaos in play. Could have been a mosquito biting the shooter Could have been the sun in his eyes Could have been that he was just shooting at Trump's ear. Divine intervention is no more or less likely than any of these so we can each choose what to believe. Truth be told, there probably is no cause and effect in play at all. I'm personally leaning toward the Flying Spaghetti Monster having something to do with it.
-
The claim of Devine intervention is a causal logical fallacy. The bullet missing Trump and killing an innocent very well may have been God's plan but there's no evidence to support that conclusion. There are other causes that could also have the same result.
-
At the risk of incurring additional personal derision in light of my lack of longevity here, I find no scriptural support for assigning Devine intervention on Trump's behalf, especially at the expense of an innocent bystander. I would appreciate scriptures cited for such claims.
-
So. Why didn't the divine intervener save the innocent bystander? Asking for a friend.

Wow. Almost neighbors!

Topic: "Recommendations you would make to first time shooters on a firearm" I'm a bit late to the party but I've got a slightly different perspective. Both my sister and sister in law have recently approached me with similar questions. Neither are more than casually acquainted with firearms. First, recognize that this gun is a tool. Match the tool to the job. Decide what you want it to do, where you want to keep it, what's appropriate for the shooter's ability, budget, and so forth. Second, learn to shoot. Start small. Gain familiarity with guns in general. Learn to be safe. Learn to care for them. Third, learn your gun. Get good with it. Real good Forth, practice. A lot.

I read recently that twra lost their open field doctrine case and decided not to appeal. No more warrantless entries without probable cause. The biggest problem was that other LE agencies were claiming open fields fishing for other crimes.

I haven't kept up with it but when we had open season no limit on hogs some of the local "sportsmen" imported a bunch so they would have big critters to kill year round. Of course, those imports chose to procreate. A lot. So, no more open season no limit.

By the looks of the bass fishermen the only thing that makes em bite is funding. $100k boat, another $100k in electronics, $30k in tackle and bait up with hundred dollar bills. If I were a bass I'd feel honored to get caught by one of those guys.

Interesting. Thanks. I've always considered the "right to work" as working both ways. If an employee doesn't want to work, they don't have to. If an employer doesn't want to hire someone, they don't have to. (Exceptions being discrimination of the protected classes) I can see where the religious discrimination applies. As for the hiring and continued employment agreement, id feel cheated on that one. I'm really, really glad that I'm not involved in such issues.

Since cheap ones are around 20 bucks, I bought one of each to try. Personally, I chose green then bought a decent sight. Those first two now live in the junk drawer as back ups, loaners and range toys. In fact, they are loaned out now to a friend trying to make this exact decision. Now if I could only remember which friend...

I'm not sure what right is violated so long as long as work done is paid for. Are you saying that there is a constitutional right to future employment? State laws might guarantee that but I'm not aware of such in Tennessee. Please explain. I'm learning here.

After hiring several Amish neighbors to help build outbuildings at my place (I was tasked to operate the power saw, battery drill and tractor) I was later invited to a barn raising. Turns out I was the entertainment.
-
I'm on both sides of this issue. People should have full control of what they put in their bodies but I fully support that Tennessee is a right to work state.

I've been shooting my Colt New Frontier since I bought it new in the 70s. My only complaint is that my Western gunbelt seems to have shortened considerably.

My problem is that my home canned beef stew gets eaten first and the Dinty Moore sits until the can rusts away.

I personally find that I need to open my bag and review, revise, replace and recharge the contents pretty often.
