Pokey, we're glad you had fun. You should'a taken a cleaning kit, though - I had two left afterwards. Guess I will paint one pink, for Sue... -

I didn't get a good photo of all the food - there was another table full of stuff. Sue worked her butt off, and really laid out a good spread, so I have to give her credit; 5 kinds of chips, 3 kinds of cookies, grilled dogs, fixings, chili, baked beans, 4 kinds of sodas, hot cocoa, hot cider, hot coffee, honeybuns and dunking sticks, nuts... You get the idea - it was about half picnic, half shooting match. There was probably a Dorito or two in there somewhere. We went through about 30 dogs, and not much was left of the rest of it. It was a lot of fun. Now I need to get off my lazy butt and get the grill up from the range... -

Congratulations to all for a good day at the range! Pictures will follow this post, but here are the scores for members of TGO: Mark@Sea - "a comfortable lead" Boomhower - 182 Elliott - 181 - 1X Mike357 - 172 CAS - 136 Pokey - 111 - 1X Donna - 39 (CAS's Mom, 1st time shooter) We had 7 new shooters/non-board members as well. Everyone managed to put a little lead on target, and everyone had fun. I would like to thank Boom, Pokey and Mike357 for their assistance before and afterwards. Mike especially went above and beyond. CAS loaded a few 270 rounds, to boot, so know ye all that he is now a 'reloader'! -

Hi All, Wideners is closed on weekends.... Hey, the 12 noon time isn't something to sweat too much, it will take at least 30 minutes for the first 3 shooters, so there is a very good chance that you can be an hour or more late with no worries... My computer at home has gone tango uniform, so I may be unable to respond after this message, depending on what went wrong... headed there this afternoon... -

Hi All, Late on the reply - I'm on the road. In Atlanta at the moment, I have to go down to Eastman, GA. Sick family. No worries, I plan on being home Wednesday night, Thursday at the latest. Show up whenever convenient - anytime from say 9 am to Noon... If some are a little late, those of us who are there can get a little practice in beforehand. The match is gonna take a little while - I'm guessing maybe a couple of hours. I'll have coffee, hot dogs and beans onsite - bring your own sodas, if you would. I have three or four 22 pistols for those who are without. Please bring standard velocity 22LR. You are plenty welcome to shoot hi-vel (or anything short of those nooclear tipped, 747 killin', magical mainstream media bullets) in your pistols, but a couple of mine are antiques, so I get a bit picky. I'll go ahead and set a drop-dead time of noon. You are welcome to show up later than that, but the match will be in progress. You may (probably) get to shoot it anyway, but no guarantees. Everybody stay safe on the road... looking forward to meeting you. -
Glocking, Chrome plating is nickel plating. Chrome is a 'clearcoat' for nickel, that makes it brighter and a bit more durable.

A diesel boat on batteries is a pain to pick up. And these days, anytime the Navy starts active pinging, some green group sues to 'save the whales'.

Ricks, A few posts back, I posted my home phone. From JC is easy - just run right up 26. Give me a call when you get close (either stone drive, or the next exit north) and I can talk you in - unless the others want to meet beforehand somewhere. -
Any members here involved in nickel plating? I have some things I would like to get plated, and need a custom shop, or someone willing to take on a simple plating job. I'll do the polishing. The parts are brass. They are Coleman lantern founts, originally nickeled, but after 80+ years the plating wore very thin...

Ricks, I got your PM, and sent you an e-mail with directions. You didn't get it? 423-246-6433 Mike, glad you are having fun with the lee loader. I think they are fun (but I've been known to enjoy a hangnail, so your mileage may vary) and about the cheapest way to get introduced to reloading that I can think of... -

Mike, if you give me the model # of the lantern, I may have a generator here. Is it a single or double mantle lantern? Ah, doesn't matter. Bet you go home with a different one anyway . Sounds good, CAS, but I will need directions if I come get you. -

CAS, this coming weekend is shaping up to be a bit busy - Mike may come up, I have a guy coming over to look at wiring my garage, I've got siding to stain and get up, and some lanterns to rebuild for someone... If you'd like to come up and sweat for the weekend, I could come down Friday and pick you up. Call it even on the reloading stuff. Do you have my phone number? Gimme a call.... -

Ricks, PM or E-mail me for directions. Where are you coming from? Don't worry about a .22, I have some loaners. CAS, sounds good. Picked up a case trimmer for you, and some lube. -
Hartford '92 .357 carbine in stainless for Sue, and a Henry golden boy in 22 for me. Lever actions are fun...

Hey, Boomhower, I sorta hope that 'Demo' isn't the word used to describe it afterwards, but yeah, I am gonna walk Mike and CAS through using a lee loader. Gonna be an interesting meet, I think. Mike, yep, it'll do 38... If you have the room, though, you're gonna want to think about a regular press... I'm working on getting my garage wired now, once that is done I can finish up the office and set up my reloading bench... I can chunk out maybe 300 an hour with it. I'm set up for 45, and have the dies for 38. I will probably be parting with my 9mm press, as I don't have anything chambered in euro-weenie anymore. At any rate, should be a fun day here in Kingsport. -

Hey, CAS, no worries, we'll sort it out. Bring all your 270 cases, we'll toss 'em in my tumbler and by the time we're done with the pistol match they will be ready to go, and you will go home with however many you bring, loaded for your next shoot. Mike, according to my book, the starting load is 6.5 grains, the high end is 7.2 grains, so your 7 grain scoop that came with the kit should work just fine. Guesstimate about 1280 FPS. I have a scale, and somewhere, if I can find it, a full set of lee scoops to boot. At 7000 grains to a pound, you're gonna get a lot out of that pound of #2.... compared to about 58 grains for CAS's 270. The bullets are a jacketed soft point. The box is marked Nosler 150 grain IPSC Trophy Grade. They look pretty good to me. For our purposes, regular primers will work just fine, I think. Guess we will find out, anyway... The primers are Wolf - hey, I was trying to go cheap. -

Hey, Mike, with your lee loader was a card, with case specs on it. On the backside is a list of loads. Accurate #2 is on the list, and if you've lost the card I have a manual, we can work up a load. Wideners reloading supply, Johnson City. They have a website, too, and really do more mail-order than walk-in. Bring your loader, a mallet, eye protection, and if you have one, a caliper. If not, I have one or two laying around here. Oh, and lots of cases! If you get bored and want to come up early, my dance card is clear for the next week or two. Give us a call. -

Mike, got you 1 pound of Accurate #2 powder ($16.00), 100 primers ($2.25) and 250 150gr bullets ($15.00). Will have to check the book for the exact numbers, but I am positive that a pound of powder is enough for several hundred pistol rounds. -

Lee Loader 270 Win 12.50 Reloder 22 1 lb 17.50 (powder) 100 Primers 2.25 100 135gr HPBT Match 22.00 Looks like it comes to fifty four bucks and a quarter. That works out to about 10.85 a box for your first five boxes. Cheaper after that, as you don't have to get another lee loader for 270 - say 8 or 9 bucks a box. If the total is a bit harsh, you can owe me. -

Actually, there will be loaners available. Also, bring anything else you want to shoot.
