  1. Hi Renee, Nice taste in pistols. 'course, they ain't 1911's, but not bad! Probably a bit of a ride for you to make it to Kingsport, but we have a little get-together there as well, every other month. This November meet, we're having a .22 pistol match, a reloading forum (fancy way of saying 'brief demonstration), and the usual good time. Welcome to TGO. Mark @ Sea - soon to be @ home for a while...
  2. No worries, Boomer. CAS, Mike assured me you could ride with him. Look forward to meeting you. Will do my best to have the reloading stuff on hand - do you have a preference for bullet weight for your 270?
  3. Renee, come to the Kingsport meet, bring a 22 pistol if you have one. Should be an interesting day, and fun to boot.
  4. Sigh.... Tower really liked it, too, when it was mine. I was pretty fond of it myself. Could tell you a tale or two about that piece.
  5. Sure... I just get pick of the litter...
  6. Campus hysterics, trying hard to bubblewrap the apparently never-to-be-allowed-to-mature, barring the way of those who strive for responsibility. Good for you, Mr. Adkins! By the way, can the campus legally bar the wearing of empty holsters?
  7. E-mailed them, no reply as of yet...
  8. Thanks for the good wishes, Mike...
  9. I'm out of Kingsport... Thanks DaG, I'll give them a call next week. Darn carbines are like rabbits - leave them alone and they multiply....
  10. Through no fault of my own, I've recently become the custodian of an M1 Carbine 'kit'. All GI, except for a 'new' Springfield Armory receiver and a new commercial barrel. Fine and dandy, but I have neither the tools nor the experience to assemble the barrel to the receiver. Checked with Deans' Gun Refinishing, and he isn't interested in the job. Any 'smiths want to tackle this?
  11. Well, folks, I am departing the ship somewhat earlier than I thought (I seem to be a little under the weather). The downside of this is a bit less cash available than I had planned. As a result, the Totally Worthless prizes will be limited to the top 8 shooters. From the signup list so far, it looks like a pretty safe bet...
  12. Mike of the adequate caliber (hehe - sorry, Mike, I'm on meds right now) Phantom 6 C.A.S. Boomhower A good start. Folks, this is a FUN match, for bragging rights. Everyone who participates will get a really worthless prize. Well, maybe not totally worthless, but seeing as Howard Hughes inexplicably overlooked leaving me in his will... CAS, I believe you'd be better off using something you're familiar with, but if you want to use either of mine, you are more than welcome. I have a Colt Woodsman, and a Browning medallist. Well, I also have a truly ancient 4 barrel derringer that shoots 22 shorts, and while you're welcome to use it, I don't recommmend actually shooting it - try throwing it at the target, instead. Targets will be standard NRA pistol - and a replacement center for a 300 yard rifle target in case Marswolf decides to show (hey, us old farts gotta stick together, ya know ) Grinning, Ducking, and running for cover....
  13. Okay, 22's at dawn - come one, come all, bring or borrow a 22 pistol. Anybody that beats' Towers' score gets a 'door prize'. Anybody that beats my score just gets beaten. Rules: I have to know how many are coming, or are reasonably certain (no penalties for early withdrawal) ahead of time, so I can pick the door prizes up beforehand. I will have enough for everyone who lets me know, prior to the 19th of this month. I MAY not have enough otherwise. If you intend to borrow one of mine, please bring a box of STANDARD velocity, brass case ammo. I prefer to avoid running the hi-vel stuff through my old junk. Bribing Tower is not discouraged, but strictly the responsibility of the participants. I don't wanna know... Lastly, for the entertainment value, scores will be posted here. So if you're coming, sing out quicklike, please... So how about it, ya chicken?
  14. The big challenge to my moral fiber is that Wideners, about 45 minutes from home, has a bunch of the rifles, and the swiss ammo for a very competitive price. Especially as I just found a buyer for my submarine - don't ask, you probably don't wanna know. Gotta keep telling myself I don't have room for another dozen long guns. Just got some good news - will be coming home next friday, a week early due to a slight touch of bronchitis. Would be sooner, but our car isn't amphibious. If you find yourself in the better - err, eastern - half of the state, bring that ammo along, please. I have every intention of being home through Christmas, although I am sure I am gonna have a discussion about that with my detailer.
  15. Great, Rabbi, but you are in Nashville, and I'm in Norfolk. To tell the truth, I don't need another rifle either, accurate & cheap or not... but need isn't everything. I bought one while in port here, and have it at a friends' house for now. Looking forward to trying it out in November.

    Swiss Miss?

    Any K31 owners here?
  17. Now Tower can be stubborn as a mule, but I resent the implication that I'm an old goat. Not that it ain't true, mind you, but I resent it....
  18. Think I might make it to this one... You folks ever consider 'themed' shoots? Milsurps, oddballs, 22 only, etcetera, or am I just 'eccentric'?
  19. You want to destroy someone? Give them everything they could want, take away any need to strive for success, assure them that nothing they do (wrong) is their fault. The damnocrats destroyed the black american community. Getting so that lately, when I see/hear the word progressive, I do a quick mental round count. Maybe I'm just getting crotchety in my old age....
  20. We will have to arrange for a range, but shoot yes! Carbines and Garands, for fun and bragging rights if nothing else. I think I'm gonna enjoy seeing the fedex truck even more, if that gal is the new driver for my route
  21. Carbine, that is - fresh from Civilian Marksmanship Program. The Happy Trucks! Lots of character in the walnut WWII stock... I may have solved the petroleum shortage...
  22. Yes, there was a misunderstanding. The store owner was mistaken in believing he'd get away with that crap that day. There are 2 kinds of mexicans in this country today. Visitors (tourists, and the like), and invaders. A mexican who comes to this country to be a citizen, who obeys the laws of the land and wants to jump in the great melting pot, isn't a mexican. He's an American. Politically correct crap like 'hate crimes' and calling patriotism 'extremism' is just a socialist tool to divide and destroy my country. Don't expect me to give it a polite response - although it will certainly get a warm one. Millions of people from around the world have immigrated to this country, and up until recently it was usually a wonderful success story. They had little in common, just the desire to become Americans. If seeing a foreign flag flying over an American flag on American soil doesn't churn your gut and fire you up, perhaps you should re-evaluate your loyalties, and reconsider your residence.
  23. To he11 with a beer, I'd like to buy him a rifle.
  24. Dave, I don't think of myself as a 'cop hater'. Nor do I think of myself as a cop respector. Cops are in no wise special except for the fact that they can arbitrarily impose anything from a hard time to huge fines and fees, to death on fellow citizens, and get away with it. This would imply a certain level of responsibility to go with the authority, don't you think? Other career fields face similiar hazards, without the benefits of being able to shoot back, and having qualified immunity when they do so. I'm guessing your oath said nothing about impartially upholding the law, so extending special privilege to fellow officers and Mom were okay. We're all just happy that cops never cause traffic accidents. Especially accidents involving fatalities among civilians who just happened to get in the way. Because, you know, that wouldn't be merely a tragedy, it would be an outrage. I'm not angry at all. I was just pointing out some apparent inconsistencies between authority and integrity with some officers. If the manner in which I phrased it upset you, I apologize. The phrasing isn't really meant to be sarcastic, rather it is meant to highlight the difference between your paradigm ("Its' okay to not enforce the law when dealing with another officer") and the reality that the rest of us face. Couldn't think of a better way to draw your attention to the difference. Just something to think about, is all...
