  1. Very nice piece! I'm sure I have no chance of talking you out of it - so how about a photo?
  2. Browning Medallist, from the '60's. Tin can killer extraordinaire... Between this and the Woodsman my wife wants to steal from me, my 22 pistol needs are met....
  3. ReefBlue, I wouldn't be able to interest you in an R/C submarine, would I? Big sonufagun...
  4. 1985, South Carolina, Christmas Eve. I'm headed back to Norfolk, where my ship is homeported. On a bike (yeah, you know it goes downhill from there). An intoxicated gent in a very large caddy cuts me off by pulling from the median into traffic (4 lane divided interstate). I went from 65 to 0 in about 3 seconds from the time he pulled out. Think Superman commercial - you will believe a man can fly... Fast forward 10 years - Need my license renewed in Virginia, want to take care of it before deployment aboard USS America. Can't be done - SC has 'suspended' my driving priveleges for driving without insurance. WTF? Called SC DMV, they actually had the records on microfiche, and admitted that yes, I had insurance, it just wasn't from SC. So what, neither was I or the bike... They decided it was their mistake, but I still had to pay $65 to get my driving priveleges back. I was short on time, so went directly to western union and wired the money... came back to DMV next day, called SC, they confirmed to the VA DMV I had paid, over the phone. Got my license. Fast forward four years... License expiring, needs renewal. Guess what? Yeah. State of SC owes me $130. One day, I WILL find a way to collect. Glad to hear you are squared away, Mike. Keep that paperwork handy! Laminate it! Shoot straight Mark
  5. One of my other major hobbies - restoring and using old Coleman lanterns, lamps and stoves. This 1921 model QL327 lantern, for example, burns as brightly as Colemans' modern offerings. If you have something like this gathering dust in your attic or barn, drop me a line!
  6. Well, its' a shame they shot him with a Tazer. They should'a used a shotgun. I've led an exciting life, I guess - one home invasion, and one attempted carjacking. Both times, my being armed was what saved the day.
  7. Made all preparations for getting underway. And today am at sea again - or should say, as usual. 9/11 occurred about 60 days after I retired from active duty. I couldn't reverse my retirement, so I signed up with Military Sealift Command. They'd asked me prior to my retirement, but before 9/11 I was extremely uninterested in spending more time away from family, friends, and "a life". (14+ of my 20 was spent at sea). Since signing on with MSC I have had about two months out of the year at home. I've certainly spent more than that in the Gulf. It does make some things difficult: Honey-do chores, home improvement, the neighbor who caused my wife to get a CCW. I feel like I have contributed something, though. Not 'in the line' anymore, but I've brought them a bunch of "beans, bullets and gas". And hey, I get two honeymoons a year. How cool is that?
  8. I've had all the warm I can handle, the past few years. When is the next ice age scheduled?
  9. The only thing I can contribute is a plea - don't start NOT trusting your instincts.
  10. I have the original wood stocks. This particular gun is neatly (believe factory) stamped US, and belonged to the US Army shooting team in the distant past.
  11. Hampton Convention Center Hampton, Va. 500 tables Exit 263-B off I-64 Coliseum Drive off Mercury Blvd. Admission $7 Show Hours: Saturday 9-5 Sunday 10-4 Link to dollar-off coupon:http://www.guns-knives.com/Coupon.html
  12. The Hampton shows I attended in the past were the best I've ever seen. You owe it to yourself! Really kicking myself that I won't be able to make it to this one.
  13. Hey Verb (mind if I call ya verb?) - I'm down at NOB right now. You gonna make it to the gunshow next weekend in Hampton? (that I'm gonna miss, sunofa- well, such is life).
  14. So you are what, 4 hours from Kingsport?
  15. Best lasagna I ever had I bought in an alleyway restaraunt in Naples...
  16. Joe, I am very sorry to be a tease. My wife has claimed this gun. She gave me the news tonight on the phone. Surprised me. Again, very sorry. Gonna check with my buddy on the availability of the black one - he's into me for about 4 grand, so he might be willing to part with it. Regretfully Mark
  17. CAS, how old is the stereo? I'm an electronics tech. If you want to use it as a target, fine - just please don't leave anything behind. That glen is where the scouts will be camping later in the year. Hope you can arrange a ride!
  18. I think it's a waste of time, unless the aggressor isn't really serious. No doubt it will be banned post-haste in (formerly Great) Britain, though. 230 grains at 900 FPS, repeat as needed.
  19. Joe, Photos sent, I will let you and Sue duke it out. Yeah, it isn't too hard on the eyes... By the way, I might be able to lay my hands on the black version. Friend of mine has it - we bought them at the same time, he never took his out of the box. My wood is prettier, though
  20. Joe, I posted three photos - y'know, I forgot how pretty that wood is... I have another 15 or so, but uploading to the board is slow for me. Shoot me your e-mail address and I can send 'em to you. - by the way, Sue had never seen this one, and she really likes it....
  21. I know this isn't much help just this minute, but I have reloaded for rifle and pistol in the past. I'm hoping to get my reloading bench back together when I come home in November - still have the equipment (and even some excess), just need to finish out the reloading room in the new garage. Would be happy to demonstrate how easy and inexpensive reloading can be. First things first - save your brass. Save anyone elses', if they don't want it.
  22. Roger that. Nobody has any numbers for the Nashville chapter of Lemmings, Inc?
  23. Darn it, Fury, every time I check this thread I have to look at that M1 of yours. You know what that is doing to my karma? Jealousy is a sin. Hope you feel bad!
  24. Marswolf, you sound like the sort of cantankerous old SOB that I'd get along with quite well. Refreshing being non-pc in a world of conformists, isn't it? Hope we can get some trigger time in sometime. By the way, does anyone have info on how many morons actually showed up in Nashville for the protest?
  25. My condolences. Hope that you take some comfort in your extended family - us. Mark
