  1. Love mine 22 lr. For me the 22 mag was just as big in your pocket as a kel tec 380. I forget the 22 is even there. In many cases its either that or nothing for me and I would much rather have that. It's also something I can take running with me. I don't appreciate viscous unchained dogs that come after runners or cyclist. Like others have said hitting your target takes practice and I would argue that in a panic situation anything outside of 5 feet is luck.
  2. Yea I have all the components but have not loaded for it yet(10 inch contender barrel) I bought them off other forums. Hard stuff to find, but I'm hoping what I have will last a while. I think my go to will be the 180 gr xtp bullet. Anyways don't want to hijack the thread. I have had good performance shooting 357 out of it so may also try that on a doe this year.
  3. Walmart off gallaherview Knoxville has thunderbolt small boxes
  4. I have been doing a good bit of research on this topic my self. I ended up getting a 357 max but I think you will find most recommend 180 grain solids. And to stay away from quick expanding bullets used for self defense.
  5. I shoot imr 4350 over 140 gr game kings with great results. I know that's not what you have so may not help that much.
  6. Ok good to know. Guess I'll order some
  7. What are the chances ill find a tin of 7.62 x54R for less than 100 bucks? Just trying to decide if I should make the trip.
  8. Carter's shooting supply in Harrison. They had several others years were 37 42 and 43 I believe
  9. I hope I don't get addicted. I have a tendency to spend more money on guns than I should. It does have a really nice stock and seem in great shape. Almost all of the ones this store had we're like this one.
  10. I'm fairly new to the contender game myself, but I can tell its going to be fun. I love mine. 357 maximum and 30-30. I think I would like a .223 as well
  11. To be totally honest I don't know enough about them tell you who made it. But I'm adding some pics, I know they are not the best.
  12. I have an rcbs. It does the job fine, but mine fits tight with the shell holder and is kind of a pain to put together, with that said its fine just minor complaints.
  13. Found some at a local shop for 129 and thought that was a decent deal. Ill get a pic up soon. Anyways aside from removing the cosmoline is there anything else I need to do before taking it to the range? I'm new to this mosin thing so it maybe a stupid question.
  14. I don't really believe that the number 2's frequent any gun sites. It's mostly new and/or uninformed shooters that probably don't know better and have enough money not to care.
  15. Ok I'll let you guys know if I come up with anything.
  16. Anybody seen some data on this combo? I have some powder I need to use up and thought I might try it. Just looking for a range of weights. Will be shooting 124gr JHP.
  17. Lol yea I may just stick to the factory stuff. Who knows. Maybe it just sounds like a better idea than it really is
  18. Anyone tried one of these? I would like to make my own reciever but I ran across these and thought it might be easier to start. I have no experience building an ar so I know this may be a newb question. Looking to build a duel purpose light weight hunting rig/ home defense.
  19. Thanks for the info. It is definitely a contender barrel. The pin will fit fine with the other barrels. However, with the super 14 barrel it will go about half way easily, but gets tight in the middle (this is not even attached to the frame). Also, I don't see any obvious burrs or marks that might get hung up.
  20. I just acquired a super 14 barrel for my G2 contender and I cannot get the hinge pin to go in well. I could probably tap it in with hammer but I'm afraid I would not be able to get it back out. The two other barrels I have had on it fit fine. I'm fairly new to the contender platform so I was insure how tight these pins are suppose to fit, or if there was something I could do like buffing the inside of the barrel lug where the pin goes.
  21. I have been looking for some of the lighter grain bullets for my contender barrel as well.
  22. With everything being equal how much variation or changes in accuracy would you expect from interchanging brass manufactures. So the same load but maybe federal vs Remington brass for example. Just something I have always wondered. I would not want to sight in with one, switch to another and have it be off target.
  23. Lol I was thinking the same thing. Can't find them anywhere.
  24. Lookes like I will not be able to get into canning in the future like I wanted to. I feel like I need to get a pressure cooker before they get banned.
  25. Guess I should have asked first. Thanks for the info.
