I hear this a lot and while many people say they have had problems with commander and officer size I personally have a Colt 1991 series 80 compact that I have had for about 10 years. I have put plenty of rounds through it, shot IDPA with it (not a smart move if you want a good score but since I carry it very practible) and carry it. I am a 1911 guy so this works for me.

I find this hard to beleive if not nearly impossible for the following two reasons: 1. Glocks NEVER fail, NEVER under any conditions. 2. Only 100 year old designs are susceptible to limp wristing seriously I would look at what that one guy who previously posted said good info there.

Shrubmaster? Someone once said anything they touch turns to …. “Let this be a lesson to you all to never trust a gun company that sounds like it should be selling rhododendrons.”

If you read the report the Marine 500 meter portion of their is stated as unrealistic for combat operations. I am not going to get into the whole inter-service rivalry thing but the author noted defencies in both service's training programs. The paper while good does have its shortcomings as well. Just thought it would be an interesting read and is a pretty good history lesson as to how we got where we are at.

The following paper is making its way around the military as well as other shooting/military forums. A lengthy read but worth it. I paid 200 for a 12 gauge about 2 years ago. Solid guns but nothing special. And have fun finding/paying for 16 gauge. I have an A5 16 gauge and I have a hard time finding it and harder time paying for it:mad:

Just wanted to give a public thanks to Hero Gear. Long story short, I recently got a last minute call letting me know someone dropped out and a slot opened up in a Vickers Tactical Pistol Course in Birmingham. I really wanted to try different sights on a particular pistol and shoot it in the course so I called Hero an explained to them the situation and they said they could get it taken care of, and did. Even though I called last minute they hooked me up. I got said pistol back, the sights were good to go and the pistol ran great. Also on day two of training the weather was warm enough for t-shirts and I was sporting my “Keep Tennessee Zombie Free†shirt. I got a lot of compliments and several people asked where they could get one. Also Hero’s reputation is getting out there as several people in the class had heard about the store and are now planning on heading that way based on good things they have heard. There was also an industry rep that was in the course who has dealt with Hero and he had very good things to say about the entire organization. He was really impressed and let it be known that the guys in Winchester were really good guys. Just wanted to say Thanks Hero and keep up the good work.

As long as it functions properly I would not worry. How many rounds have you put through it? Has it had any problems? You are not going to get tack driving accuracy out of it at 300 meters but where can you shoot that far around here regularly. Again my advice is to put several hundred rounds through it without changing anything and not the performance. If it runs good then don't worry about it. If you still want to try to take the play out of it then possibly try: DPMS Accurizing Wedge AR-15 - MidwayUSA Fulton Armory FAQ: Is the Accuwedge necessary to tighten AR-15 upper/lower receiver fit? I don't need one in mine and couldn't install it if I wanted (too tight) but it might work for you. Again just put some rounds downrange and make sure it works first. hope this helps.

+1 for Jeff at Hero He did a trigger job on a series 80 officer's model and is as we speak hooking up a full size on short notice

Someone please close this thread. Everytime I see it it gets my hopes up. Like Paulie said not gonna happen in 2010 so save up. Again mods please close this thread if you deem that course of action appropriate.

The Modern Army Combatives Program is currently taught in Basic as well as BNOC and ANCOC. At the unit level some units take it seriously and train hard others never practice it at all. The lower levels 1 & 2 are devoted to grappling and advanced levels include striking. The grappling portion is more than based on BJJ it is BJJ. Royce and Rorion Gracie gave several seminars to the both 1st and 2nd Ranger Bn back in the late 90s. The entire Army Combatives program grew out of the Ranger Combatives program. This can be evidenced in the current Army Combatives Field Manual located here: FM 3-25.150 TABLE OF CONTENTS I say evidenced because all of the photos were taken at 3rd Ranger Bn’s facility and the demonstrators in the photos were Rangers (Matt Larsen and I forget the other). Many people don’t like the current combatives program but I can see the benefits: it toughens soldiers physically and mentally, it allows 100% sparring, it teaches moves that can be used during EPW control or other situations where non-lethal force is necessary and the force can be turned lethal. As far as MMA being practical I think MMA is more practical than any other style. First MMA is a combination of several styles (hence the mixed part). Second if you train MMA and spar you are actually fighting as opposed to other styles that may rely on form and katas and maybe point sparring. Third while I like jiu-jitsu and judo and they have their place it is hard to execute the moves you learned while getting punched in the face. There is a saying that basically goes like this: you hit a jiu-jitsu black belt in the face a few times and he turns into a brown belt. I think because of these reasons MMA is a viable form of self defense but it is not for everyone. You can’t just go once or twice a week and expect to learn a move or two. It takes a lot of dedication and most people don’t like getting physically beat up. Well just my two cents. P.S CPT Chris is the man. Come on he trained with the last remaining samurai:rolleyes:

Look Captain Chris has “learned from the Arabian assassins in Egypt, the Israeli soldiers stationed on the West Bank, and the last remaining Samurai” (and you thought Tom Cruise Missile was the Last Samurai, wrong CPT Chris is!) not only this but his system uses WWII techniques that “soldiers for jumping dozens of armed Nazi and elite Japanese commandos... And Killing Them With Their Bare Hands! I know... but even more incredible is... in many cases, these Allied "Super Soldiers" did not even bother using their weapons ("too slow and clumsy", they reported:screwy:). Instead, they would just use these extremely effective movements they were taught sometimes the night before they were shipped off to battle. “ Yeah take that Nazis, that will teach you to bomb Pearl Harbor! Weapons were too slow and clumsy, no need for concealed carry when you have touch of death powers. Bottom line is CPT Chris is “the "go to guy" for today's most advanced and highly trained military soldiers, mercenaries and other professional killers...” Many people will doubt the mad skilz of CPT Chris but these people have not trained with Japanese Nazi Samurai assassins from Arabia. I may not know CPT Chris but I do know that you can sign up friends for his annoying newsletter simply by entering their name and e-mail address on the website. This is even better if you send it to their work e-mail, the gift that keeps on giving. Definitely worth a laugh. Anyway setsdw you list that you are in Sparta, come on man SPARTA, don't ya'll grow up doing combatives and kicking people down wells? SPARTA, actually surprised CPT Chris didn't train with the last remaining Spartan, oh wait CPT Chris actually trained the Spartans back in the day, CPT Chris was at Thermopalye...the list goes on and on.

Those dates sound good especially since Monday October 11th is Columbus day. The weekend dates sound good and I am in no matter what everyone decides.

I saw on another board where EAG was running a carbine course there (it filled up quick) in Columbia. At a minimum this means that the facility that EAG is using in Columbia should be open to letting MAGPUL run a dynamic course there as well or at least one would think. Maybe this is not a dead issue yet.

"GIs carrying 1911's defeated Axis forces, including Austrians. The 1911 was winning battles and saving lives before Gaston Glock was even born - somewhere along the way we probably figured out a thing or two on combat handguns." –Larry Vickers Just saying

+1 Quality costs. The biggest question you should ask is this: What will the AR be used for and how much will it be shot? If it isn't shot much and only at a flat range from a bench then you can get away with a lesser optic. If you are going to shoot 3 gun with it or go take a training class from someone like Magpul, EAG, etc. then I would want a quality product. I think the most important thing to remember with ARs in general is that they are like cars. Everyone has a definite opinion about how it should be setup and what to put on it and their way is the right way and everyone else is wrong. Good luck and remember the thing with ARs is if you don't like the setup it is easy to change to something you do like.

Bought one for my 1911 from crossbreed with no problems or complaints. Great product from a company with Great beleifs.
-
It has been said but I would go with P-Mags filled with ammo or if you have the money a quality optic. You can pay less but as they say you get what you pay for.

good luck finding/paying for shells. I have a Browning A5 16 gauge that I love except when it comes to buying shells

I ordered one for my 1911s about 6 months ago and have not been disappointed. Currently I am working out west and when I do get a weekend off (not lately) I go hiking in the mountains. I have carried an officer's model 1991 on a 6+ mile hike with very little issues. I say little issues because at times I could tell it was there and at the end there was a little chaffing but it was a 6+ mile hike and not all of it was on trails. I figure if it didn't bother me on my last hike then daily carry should never be a problem. I am a big fan of the Crossbreed the only thing that makes it better is that it is American made/owned and the proprietor’s beliefs.

Here is one of the best comparison charts out there on ARs. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA All credit goes to a guy named Rob at Tacticalyellowvisor.net Having giving credit to the source I would have to say remember the old saying "You get what you pay for." You have to ask yourself why are you buying an AR? Is it just to have, occasionally plink, "tactical home defense", to be cool or because it is TEOTWAWKI? Also how many rounds are you going to shoot per week/month? DO you plan on attending any courses such as the MAGPUL that was mentioned in another thread? I would hate to pay good money for quality training then show up and have my primary weapon go down. But for the casual/occasional shooter then maybe it doesn't matter. To me firearms are a lot like vehicles. They have a purpose and some models are better than others. My 1988 escort can drive me to work but so can my 01 pickup. They both do the same thing does that make one better than the other? Also I am sure everyone has figured it out by know much like cars/trucks people have definite opinions/loyalty to certain types/makes of firearms. Anyway hope you find a good AR that suits your needs.
