  1. Everyone should practice periodically drawing and firing from however you normally carry. So wear whatever type of cover shirt you normally would be wearing when carrying. MAKE SURE YOUR GUN IS UNLOADED. Then have someone else make sure it is unloaded, then you check it again. Practice unconcealing, drawing, presenting and firing at some point on the wall. Do it over and over to build muscle memory. If your range allows it, practice the whole thing again with live ammo. If others are on the range, ask them if it's OK with them if you do it, or just wait till you're alone.
  2. How dare those pesky gun owners try to chill his 1st ammendment rights while he is trying to chill their 2nd ammendm, ent rights!!
  3. So does anyone have a tally of Rep's and Sen's that have verbally said they will support the veto override?
  4. Here's the response I got from Senator Randy McNally:
  5. It bugs me how they have to spin it by saying "Should we be allowed to 'Pack Heat' in bars". Makes us gound like gangsters. Thay can just say "carry a firearm into places that server alcohol". Can you say "Truth in reporting"?
  6. Just sent an email to Sen McNally and Rep Hackworth. They both supported the bill last time and I encouraged tehm both to continue their support. I was especially pleased with Jim Hackworth last time, who actually returned my call, left voicemail, and followed up a week later by calling me back again. Shows me he cares about the people.
  7. Wow! Those are some pretty heavy packs. You should shoot for around 25 pounds until you are ready to spend some serious money to get them under 20. Look at all the stuff you brought, and set aside everything you didn't use and next time think about not bringing that stuff. Look for ways to shave off ounces and pounds from your gear. It's amazing how much weight the little things add up to. Get rid of a dozen 1 oz items and you got yourself a pound of savings.
  8. The way I understand Nat'l Park carry, it should be legal right now thanks to the Bush order, but was blocked by injunction from an activist judge. So now that it is law, and obviously the desire of the people, could the judge be persuaded to drop the injunction? And if he did, would Bush's rule be back in effect?
  9. Either. I'm just looking for something to shoot.
  10. Been thinking about this for a while. I like to shoot my .22's but prefer something with a bit more kick. My 9mm fits the bill, but ammo is getting more costly. What's the next size up round that won't break the bank and is readily available?
  11. For whitewater kayaking, you can try www.boatertalk.com . It's a forum similar to TGO, but dedicated to kayaking. Be forewarned, the atmosphere is not quite like TGO, they are mostly granola eating, Birkenstock wearing, tree hugging hippie types, who like to argue a lot. But there are several "Review" areas that you can look at what other people think of different boats and gear. I see you live in Knoxville. Look up River Sports, go by and talk to them. They've got lots of whitewater and flatwater boats. They usually have a Spring Demo Day, where they bring all their boats to a lake and let you paddle around in them. I think they even let you rent kayaks if you want to try one out for a whole day. You need to decide before you buy the type of kayaking you want to do. A flatwater boat will get you killed on whitewater. A whitewater boat will frustrate the hell out of you on a lake. It is an awesome sport. Fun, good excersize, you'll see amazing places most people can't get to. If your kayaking with your wife, you'll have something to do together.
  12. I've been kayaking for about 25 years now. In fact, that is the main reason I moved to TN, the rivers are just so good here. Here's a couple of pics of the places I like to go. First one is Baby Falls on the Tellico. The second is Potter's Falls on Crooked Fork near Wartburg.
  13. I got my packet a few weeks after joining from the original link in this thread. I've even recieved two of the monthly magazines so far. Gotten a few spams, but way less than I was expecting. I just now revisited the link and it looks like it has changed some. Now it is a "Trial Membership" without the full benefits like the monthly magazine.
  14. That e-mail says the bill would allow loaded shotguns and rifles. Is that true? I thought it was just a loaded handgun, and only by permit holders.
  15. Called yesterday. I asked if the Gov was indicating which way he would go, and she said "No". I asked how the calls were stacking up, and she said "More people are for the bill to become law."
  16. Would that be 10 consecutive days, or 10 work days?
  17. Just like the nice lady said, her permit arrived about a week later. I'm convinced the call brings the paperwork back to the top.
  18. Found this on American Handgunner Magazine's website. It's not the article I was thinking of, but it is similar. The quote above is near the bottom of the provided link, and a picture is there as well.
  19. I just read an article about IO that said they make 100% of the AK right here in the US, so there's no restrictions on them. I went to their web site, but could not find any information about this particular build, just a bunch of import stuff.
  20. I just emailed my Rep, Jim Hackworth, expressing my support for the bill. I was encouraged last week when he personally returned my phone call from the week prior. I had called him and left a message, which he promptly returned and got my voice mail. A few days later he called back again - good follow up! Anyway, I told him I was in favor of the Senate bill passing, and he said he expected it to pass. I'm definitely holding my breath.
  21. I'd be tempted to print out the TN code and hand deliver it to him at Kroger's, carrying of course.
  22. Got mine yesterday. I figured it was because I signed up for the free 1 year NRA membership. I've started getting other things since then too, like a CenterFire catalog.
  23. 2006 Yamaha V-Star Classic Silverado:
  24. Looks like it would be fun to holster!
