  1. Sometimes they don't even do that. I realize there is a lot of demand right now. A week ago, I went to a big name Knoxville shop, went in with cash, and asked to pre-buy a certain pistol. They said they wouldn't do it. Suggested I come in on Thursday mornings when they get their weekly shipments put out on the shelves and just "see what they got. If the one I want is in I could buy it". For me this was the last straw with them. I have resolved not to be back.
  2. Open up Windows Explorer and go to this folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc Look for a file called "Hosts" and open it up in notepad. You should see a bunch of lines with "#" in front (these #'s just comment out the line and make it not do anything) and you should see one line like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost If you have anything else, it probably has been added by malware. Make a copy of the file and then erase everything below the 127.0.0.1 localhost line. If there is nothing below this line, then this is not your problem. another thing to try, open a command prompt and type IPConfig /all <Enter> Look for the default gateway line and look for the IP address. Type Ping and the ip address. If you don't get successful pings, your PC can't connect to your router. If this is the case, I'd look at your ethernet connection to your router. One other thing to look at is if your PC got set up for a proxy server for Internet connections. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN Settings, and make sure there is not a check box in the Use Proxy settings. Good luck
  3. OK, so my wife just took her carry class and is thinking about a carry gun. She is really liking the idea of a revolver for it's simplicity and reliability. Does anyone know of a decent revolver chambered in 9mm? I like 9mm because of it's price over most other ammo. She currently owns a Bersa .380, but won't shoot it because ammo is so expensive. She'd be way more inclined to shoot more often at 9mm prices. Also, I shoot 9mm and having the same ammo for both guns would a bonus.
  4. These comments bring up a good point. If the stamp is on the firing pin, it would be very easy to file it off. If it's on the bullets, whats to keep me from sanding it off before I load up? Again, another stupid law that would only keep the honest, honest
  5. Lets say for sake of discussion, that this lawsuit goes through and Hillary is booted out of the position. Her NY Senator slot has already been filled and her replacement sworn in. Does that leave Hillary out in the cold? Or does the replacement Senator step down?

    Best 9mm List

It can't be a serious list, a Glock didn't show up till #10
  7. I think Jimmy may be a little bit below the frame of the picture!
  8. http://www.freezerbagcooking.com/ I have used this technique for backpacking. Just get some instant rice, and throw in a little seasoning, I like Taco powder, put it all in a heavy duty freezer bag. Bring along one of those chicken breasts in a sealed foil container, or some tuna. When ready to eat, mix it all up in the freezer bag, add boiling water, let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes and enjoy. I also throw some oatmeal, brown sugar, powdered milk and a tablespoon of coffee creamer, all into a freezer bag. Add some boiling water and call it breakfast. I was skeptical at first about the integrity of the freezer bag, but it held up great.
  9. My point is, he has risen to the most powerful position in this country, why does he have to label himself as anything other than an American? I can see talking about it occasionally, or when filling out a DL application or something along those lines, but why do we have to hear it all the time? I mean come on, it's obvious he's black, I don't need to be reminded. My family line is Polish (keep the jokes to a minimum please) but you don't hear me saying it every day of my life (OK maybe if I were anything other than Polish I'd bring it up a little more, JK). I bring it up during specific conversation and that's it. If I went to another country, and someone asked me my nationality, I wouldn't say Polish-American, I'd just say American.
  10. So, anyone want to hazzard a guess at when the first restaurant carry bill will show up and he can put his money where his mouth is?
  11. I was thinking about this exact thing earlier tonight. He's actually only 1/4 African. His mother was 100% caucasion, and his father was 1/2 black + 1/2 mid eastern. Why not say Arab American and appease the middle easterners? He's just as much that as African. Better yet, why not just say Black American? He's the president of the United States of America, which requires that he be a naturally born citizen. Why bring African into it at all? Still better, why not just say American? We can all see he is black. Haven't we made it past subdividing ourselves? I thought we were going to "change" for the sake of "unity".
  12. Totally unconfirmed story, but here it is... My wife was talking to a friend, whose husband and son just took their carry class. When they went to the drivers license office to turn in the paperwork, they were told that they have had more applications for carry permits than they have for drivers licences this month. Thought that was very interesting. Soon we may be having to go to the Handgun Carry Permit office to renew our drivers licenses.
  13. When did a presidential inaguration turn into such a specticle. This thing has got a lineup bigger than a SuperBowl halftime show. I don't remember all this fanfare for Bush or even Clinton for that matter. To me it is just a bit unseemly. I think taking the office of the President should be a somber occasion. It almost seems like they are saying "Ha, Ha, in your face. We won, you lost". Also, what's with all this "We are one" business. I don't want to be a part of what he stands for, and I'm sure his side is not willing to change their mind to be like me. So who exactly is standing unified? Again, I think it's more like them taunting, saying "We are one... Because we won"
  14. Went to the Oak Ridge WM last night, and the shelves definitely looked bare. They did have a few boxes of Blazer 9mm, which they had been out of for a long time, so I grabbed a few of them. They were still out of the 550 value packs of .22 shells. I got the last few of the 50 count boxes. My wife is taking her carry permit class in two weeks. She is planning on using the .22 Ruger since it is such a tack driver and easy for her to shoot. I never thought I'd have trouble finding ammo for it. Salesperson told me that their shipments have been getting longer an dlonger in between deliveries, and when they do get stuff it is of limited quantities, like one case of any particular round.
  15. A few years ago, we converted our fireplace to gas logs. I highly recommend this, especially if you already have gas service. We got "ventless" logs which burn 100% of the gas, so the flue can be closed and all of the heat stays in the house instead of going up the chimney. Plus it's on instantly, and best of all no smoky smells in the house. Our chimney didn't draft very well. I think the logs cost about $125 and the hookup was about $100. You'll probably pay $100 for calling someone out to sweep your chimney.
  16. BK, You said earlier you were young and single. Your best asset is free time. Use it to get a second job, and use every penny of it to pay off debt. You have no responsibilites to a wife or kids, so work as much as you can. I know it may be for less than what you want to make, but it will help speed up the process. And it's only temporary. One day you'll be debt free. Set up a schedule for how long you need a second job. When you reach your goal, quit. Sell some stuff. Everyone has junk laying around they never use, that someone else wants to buy and keep in their house. Use every penny to pay off debt. Look at your bills and see if there is something you can do without. Really need 50000 minutes on your cell plan? Really need 500 channels of cable? Really need to eat out 8 nights a week? You get the idea, look for ways to cut back. Every penny you save, pay off debt. Get yourself on a tight budget. Here's how I do it ala Dave Ramsey. Sit down and list out everything you pay for, rent, utilities, gasoline, food, insurance, medical, credit cards, everything. Think about extra stuff too like car repairs, things that come once a year or infrequently like dues or HCP renewal and add a little in the budget for them. Then, on paper "spend" every single dollar you earn. What I mean is, account and pre-assign every dollar you get. If you list all your bills and assign money to them and you still have $20 left over, find a place to put that $20. Now force yourself to stay on that budget. We use cash and envelopes. I have an envelope for eating out. Every month we decide how much $$$ we need to eat out. When I get paid, I take that much money out in cash and fill the envelope. When I want to eat out I grap the envelope. If there is $50 in it I go where ever I want. If there is $10 left in it I go to McD's. If there is nothing in it, I fix a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at home. It sucks sometimes if there is nothing left, but I realized that I'm a big boy now and somtimes big boys have to do the hard things. Also, in your budget, allways give yourself a little "blow" money. Not a lot, but some. This is for you to spend any way you want. I've found if you put yourself on a budget that is so restrictive and you never get to blow some money on stuff, you'll just give up. These ideas are not original. My wife and I teach the Dave Ramsey course. If it sounds interesting to you, I'd be happy to sit down with you personally one evening and give you some more info. Also, if you're interested, I can email you a sample budget that is in Excel format. It is one that I use and works great. But whatever you do, don't go to Cali. I really think you'll be better off her in TN. Financially, and emotionally.
  17. What happens if Dems all vote for him, and Repubs are split? Not sure if they would do that or not, but it could also be a show-stopper.
  18. Had me fooled!
  19. If you really want to have a discussion with the owner about an improperly posted sign, why not pretend that it is correctly posted and try to convince them to remove it. You can find lots of info on this forum to help support your position on why posting is a bad idea. Otherwise, I agree. Just keep quiet.
  20. At one of our local gun shops (Frontier Firearms) they always check for one in the chamber before handing a gun to a customer, AND upon the customer handing it back. Even if they have been watching the customer like a hawk. They do this every time, without fail. I really respect that. I went to them when I was looking for my first gun. The first time they handed me a pistol, I stupidly grabed it and put my finger on the trigger and started talking to the clerk. He very politely mentioned that I may want to hold it with my finger off the trigger, just to get in the habit. I'll never forget that, and that first experience with the gun is now burned into my brain and my finger never goes to the trigger unless I'm ready to pull it. Like others have said, I consider every gun loaded, and just out of principal I would never point it at someone while shopping.
  21. Well then, they'll have to pony up the lions share of the tax themselves then, because most of the BS in this country comes from Washington!
  22. Just heard on the news that Sea Ice is at levels we had 29 years ago, and the earth this year has experienced the fastest growth of sea ice ever on record. OMG! We must have overcompensated for global warming and now we have started some sort of cooling death spiral. We're doomed!
  23. I did have an occurance one time where I didn't grip my XD quite right and it wouldn't go bang. I was at the range and practicing drawing and shooting from concealed under a shirt. However, I looked at it as a good thing. It made me evaluate my draw, and I found that I was doing some things seriously wrong. Now that I have made some corrections, I've not had any more problems. I will say though, that when you pull the trigger and the gun does not go bang, it is very disorienting. You sit there looking at it wondering what is going on. Now, it is burned into my brain that if it doesn't fire, check my grip. It's kind of like one of those classes where they make you turn around and someone does something to disable your gun, and you have to figure out what it is.
  24. Went to the Oak Ridge Wallmart yesterday and the shelves looked pretty bare. They had no Blazer 9mm, but had one or two boxes of WWB 100 pack. They were also out of all .22 shells. Clerk said they got a case of .22 in the day before and it all sold in one day. He also said it would be a few weeks before they got any new stuff. I'm hoping that lots of people just got some new toys for Christmas and had to feed them. If so, I'm sure the shelves will fill back up once the newness wears off.
  25. I think I'll send in my request now for my own trillion dollars. Seems like these days, all you have to do is ask.
