  1. Wouldn't you like to know! (I could tell you, but.........)
  2. I love my AR's,but own an AK as well, for your purposes it would be hard to beat the AK.
  3. Shoot both, more trigger time and matches will make you a better shooter faster, besides both are great fun.
  4. You will need eye and ear protection. holster, 3 mags or 4 speedloaders, and a concealment garment (vest, shirt etc,). Most IDPA stages are shot from concealed draws. www.rangeisssafe.com has links to some local clubs and the IDPA website as well, you can download the rulebook and read which I would recommend. Most local matches use 75-100 rds of ammo, bring 150 rds and you'll have plenty. Plan to have some fun, and don't worry about embarrasing yourself, all of us were newbies at some point, and we will be glad to give you whatever help you need. Also we have a "cold" range policy at the matches, that means don't show up with a loaded gun, shooters are allowed to handle their gun only under the supervision of a safety officer. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
  5. The cover ain't big enough for that.
  6. There is a new site up for east TN regional IDPA events and info. www.rangeissafe.com
  7. Break Free is OK, but I tried a free sample of Weapon Shield CLP, and it is slightly heavier than break free, and stays on the gun longer.
  8. Almost any decent SD round will do the job, just be sure to stay upwind if possible.
  9. If there was ever a good use for pepper spray this is it.Trust me it will send them on their way.
  10. I carry a Glock 22 and a spare mag on me, with J- frame and another G22 mag and spare .38 ammo in my laptop case. Total 68 rds. Can you really have too much ammo?
  11. Does anyone have information on the bill in TN about requiring bullets to be coded? Supposedly all handgun and "assault rifle" ammo will be required to have a number on the base of the bullet.
  12. Alot of us competition shooters shoot the same gun ALOT, if I am putting a gun away that may not be used for several weeks or months, then it is properly cleaned. My main 1911 for IDPA is fired at least twice a week, and cleaned when it needs it. My carry guns on the other hand are kept clean. BigJ45 thinks I clean my gun too much every 600-800 or so! What can I say I'm paranoid! At a major match a gun may be fired 400 rds.or more, I need to have faith that my gun will run fine when it gets dirty, besides a wise old shooter once told me if your gun won't work when its dirty then there is something wrong with it.
  13. You'll put an eye out with that thing, you are a Glock person that pistol has way too many levers and buttons and it does not hold enough bullets for you to ever hope to use it. I'll take it off your hands, but you better act fast this is a limited time offer...... FS
  14. That is how I voted, I consider the Glock to be a reliable fighting gun for not much money. They aren't pretty but they sure don't suck. The really nice thing is if you don't like them you can buy a SIG,S&W MP, XD, or choose from a long list of quality 1911's etc. Choose what suits you, who cares as long as it does the job.
  15. Good question but it does not apply to me, I recently sold all my guns (I only had three) , and converted to Taoism, a very peacful philosophy that looks at the use of any weapon as wrong. Nothing to see here move along.....
  16. WOW!! someone makes a gun that is uglier than a Glock! I had no idea!
  17. Ready to go bang! .38 J- frame, 1911, Glock 22 (my now daily carry gun). I think a gun is as safe as its user, but then I think skydiving is perfectly safe too.
  18. My 1911 easily made it past the 1000 rd. mark on Sat. I field stripped the gun Sat. night to clean it and while it was pretty dirty the slide- glide was still in the gun. I feel sure the gun would have gone through another 1000. I will now go back to my normal cleaning routine, boresnake after every practice/match etc. field strip and clean once a month or 600 rds. whichever comes first. It is nice to know I can rely on my gun to keep working even without cleaning, not a practice I would recomend, but it does elevate my confidence in this particular 1911. If you want to try the slide-glide it is sold at Brian Enos's web site. Robin
