  1. She's exactly what you would expect from Obama; liberal, chosen for her appearance, an academic as opposed to experienced, and ideologically driven.
  2. If you have not been here yet, read the C&R FAQs on the ATF website. They answer most questions. ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions - Curios & Relics The regulations states that a C&R licensee must log all transactions of C&R firearms. That's all.
  3. Penetration is a different animal. It is actually pretty simple. It is simply mass x velocity / area. That's why a small diameter projectile will typically penetrate better. A baseball has much less penetration than an icepick, even if the velocity is the same. So, 9mm will typically have better penetration than a .45acp as it is faster with a smaller diameter.
  4. You do not have to put C&R firearms in your book if you already own them. Unless you sell them. You also ONLY put C&R firearms in the book. If you acquire or sell modern firearmss which are NOT C&R, you do not log those.
  5. There is no way to stop a burglar. What you want to do is make it so time-consuming and difficult that his chances of getting in and out without getting caught go up dramatically. And THAT is where a safe comes in. When you have a gun safe, the time and effort required to steal your guns goes WAY up! Thieves these days are very aware of burglar alarms, cameras, and also police response times! They know that if they can get in and out without getting caught, then they will probably get away with it. Adding in a half-ton safe slows them down, makes them more noticeable, and easier to catch.
  6. Depends on whether she's worth it or not. My wife snores. So do MOST people. I'll bet you do too. If you can't learn to live with it, get some earplugs. But, if otherwise the relationship is good, this shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
  7. There is a LOT of misinformation here. I suggest you go HERE for the real facts: ATF Online - Publications - Firearms - Curios or Relics List Three points of interest: 1) ALL firearms over 50 years old are C&R according to the law. That Remington 700 made in 1959? C&R. 2) At the bottom of the above link are TWO FAQs. Read them both, they will answer most of your questions. Some questions are on both FAQs, but some are not. 3) Most vendors are very cautious about C&R status. If THEY say it's C&R, it's safe to buy. The onus is on seller to know. As mentioned above, many on-line sellers such as Midway, AIM, Century, Brownells, etc give dealer prices to C&R licensees. Another good reference site is: Welcome to Cruffler.com!
  8. That hasn't stopped Congress before. How can they force you purchase a product you may not need or get a huge fine (Obamacare)?
  9. Watching live camera footage from the Iceland Volcano. More greenhouse gases per day than all of Humanity in a year. I may watch All Gore later just for comedy.
  10. How's life up there in Sycamore Shoals?! In Tennessee, the only requirement for a private individual selling a handgun is that you not knowingly sell to anyone who cannot legally buy a handgun (felon, child, drug abuser, mentally incompetent, etc).
  11. Why are you talking about trading YOUR revolver to get HIM a new 9mm? Tell him to save his pennies and then buy what he wants. I'm not much for 'new and shiny'. It has always seemed to me that 'trendy' costs extra and brings no added value or utility. I truly believe in paying for quality, but that has nothing to do with 'new and shiny'.
  12. "Remington .22 rifles made before 1968 usually do not have serial numbers. " I have no idea why they decided that certain models needed serial numbers and others don't. All the Model 12 and 121s I've seen have serial numbers. Likewise Model 24 and 241s. But most others do not. Perhaps it has to do with cost as the Models 12 and 24 were the top of the line during their day. Models 31, 41, 66, 77, and 552 do NOT have serial numbers, unless made after 1967. Other models I'm not sure about.
  13. A couple of points: 1) Colleges are more vulnerable to crimes than many other places because you have a relatively naive and trusting population that has not yet learned to be aware of crime and dangerous situations. 2) Add in that colleges try VERY hard to not publicize crimes which occur on campus as that is detrimental to recruiting, alumni giving, and enrollment. 3) Studies have shown that criminals actually TARGET college campuses as they know the victims are incapable of protecting themselves, and police response is very slow to non-existent. 4) Recent statistics show that campus violence is on the rise. This will continue to rise until we take common-sense measures to protect our college students, such as allowing adults who can legally carry to do so on campus, and forcing colleges to actively report crimes.
  14. If the rifle has no serial number, The 4473 should just show "no serial number". Many dealers use a stock number, or inscribe one somewhere. This is not required, and a collector will pay rather less for any firearms so marked. Prior to 1968, there was no requirement for manufacturers to have serial numbers on their products. The 'KH' letters can help identify the year of manufacture. According to the table at this site: Remington Barrel date Code Your rifle barrel was made in May 1961. This date method is unreliable with shotguns like the 870 and 1100 as many have seen barrel changes. Nice score! These are great rifles and show the best of Remington manufacturing quality. If the rifling looks worn, try de-leading it first. Most .22 rifles don't actually wear the rifling out, but the lead build-up makes it look that way.
  15. Remington .22 rifles made before 1968 usually do not have serial numbers. The barrel dates may be under the wood.
  16. Designing large magazines for rimmed cartridges is very difficult. The rims cause feeding problems if they are allowed to get in front of each other. The AK drum is designed for rimless cartridges and may give you problems with the rimmed .410 shells. If you decide to play with this, keep us informed! I'm sure others would love to know how to get it done.
  17. Very true!! Years ago when I lived in central TX and did a lot of trail riding, I tried this. Yamaha XT550 and a Colt 1011A1 .45. Only worked if I left the bike in 2nd and used my left hand to shoot. After much experimentation I discovered my scores went WAY up if I stopped and fired. Times didn't change much. After that I figured if I couldn't ride out of trouble, I was better off stopping and using the bike for cover.
  18. Political definitions are meaningless. As you have noted, 'Conservative' and 'Liberal' certainly don't mean anything the same as they meant 200 years ago. In fact, the definitions are nearly reversed. If you believe in individual liberty as a good thing, then there have been victories. There were some significant victories in 1995 after the 'Republican Revolution' of 1994. I sincerely believe that we will see similar victories as a result of this years elections. What is most important is to not relax our vigilance. Political party affiliation is irrelevant as we have seen. Both parties are perfectly willing to spend all the money we will let them, and encroach on our freedom until we tell them "NO!". Sadly, that takes a level of moral fortitude I don't know that we have. It takes voters willing to refuse to accept government benefits, jobs, and services. I am afraid that your signature line has become truth in this country. Very few people love liberty more than servitude, and most refuse to even see their chains.
  19. Do NOT miss the Saturday night shoot! If you have never seen and felt it, you are missing a very unique experience!

    MOA rating

Red dot sights are for quick, snap shooting more than accurate, deliberate aiming. As such, a 64moa circle is designed so that at close range when you put the target into the circle, you'll hit it. Obviously, under 100 yards or so, a standard silhouette target will pretty much fill the circle. The object is to sight the scope so that the point of impact is in the very center of the circle. Usually the circle is used with a central smaller red dot.
  21. I'm just a bit older, I suspect. I was C 1/5 weapons from '80-81, and got moved over to 1/12 to be a Co XO from late '81-83. Fun times in the warm TX sun!
  22. Army policy has always been to make everyone look the same. Way back when, you could tell the teeth from the tail because we wore the BDUs. Even though everyone was issued BDUs, it was the combat arms that actually wore them as a normal duty uniform. And the old Khaki uniforms were a royal Army screw-up! Who would have thought that they would issue a uniform that looked good, let you wear ALL your jingle, and was comfortable?!! Naturally, THAT had to go away! Seriously, the boys and girls who go play in the dirt with pointy objects and unfriendly strangers should be recognized as such. While I do believe that the REMFs should have their "30days without a misspelled word" awards, higher risks and gains should be allowed to display higher awards. When I was active duty, it was peacetime, and our point of pride was to wear just ONE weapon qualification badge; Expert Rifle. To us, that showed that you could assume that person was an expert with all the other weapons the Infantry used. Besides, how long should you allow the Expert badge to get? Rifle, Pistol, Machine Gun, Mortar, 90mm Recoilless, Submachine Gun, Automatic Rifle, Rifle Grenade, M203, and Bayonet made a chain that just looked silly. I always thought that berets looked silly. Still do. Warriors should wear hats for practicality. The boonie hat is still the most practical hat ever issued. But if a unit wants to wear them, why not? For a while when I was in 1CD, our battalion (1/5Cav) wore black cavalry hats when on parade. That was mostly silly too. But standing at parade rest under that hot Texas sun listening to speech after speech during change of command ceremonies you came to appreciate the fact that you weren't going to die of heatstroke with that hat on!
  23. The factory nickel plating done to Colt and S&W handguns is a very high quality finish. As stated above, it will never rust, and ages very well as it very gradually acquires a slight yellowing. It's wear resistance is far higher than blued or painted finishes.

Looks like it was made in 1953, according to this site: Serial Number Data I think that the combination of .32New Police caliber and a 4" barrel is going to be less common.
  25. Pretty much ANYTHING that government does is, can, and has been done at 1/2 to 1/10th the cost of the government solution. What's more important is that in your examples above, the individual has the OPTION of not availing himself of government services. This takeover of the healthcare industry FORCES every American to utilize a service they may not want or need. From over twenty years I had no 'health insurance' except for accident and major medical. I had no need for anything else. Those in favor of government-mandated Health insurance are either ignorant, stupid, or evil. I believe most are more ignorant of basic economics than the average teenager in the 1850's. Must be that wonderful government schooling.
