  1. I've run many thousands of rounds of Wolf through submachineguns and pistols. It has not been a reliability problem in any gun I've used. Keep the ammo cool and dry and it will outlast you.
  2. Congratulations!!! Now remember that ANY firearm made before 1961 is automatically a C&R!! Next year it will be 1962, and in 2013 it will be 1963. So every year, there are many thousands of additional firearms that you can buy! Kinda cool, isn't it!
  3. Somehow I am having a hard time getting enthused about a large, heavy, low-powered revolver. When you add in the stupid safety lock, it makes me underwhelmed. But hey! That's what free enterprise and market competition is all about. Because there are other people who are interested in things I'm not interested in! I'd really love it if a reputable manufacturer would make an updated copy of the old Star PD .45. An alloy frame single-action, single-stack 1911 .45acp copy with no grip safety. But make it with the frame about 1mm thicker on each side at the frame rails, better low-profile sights, and Commander-style hammer. I'd grab one in a heartbeat!
  4. The basic problem with Marxist economic theory is that it has no concept of 'relative value'. And ALL 'collective bargaining' is based on Marxist theory. Collective bargaining says that any worker with 'x' years experience and 'y' level of training is as good as any other worker with the same levels. Anyone with a brain knows that it is total hogwash. Take a worker who has a bad attitude, takes every possible sick day, does just the barest minimum needed to get by and is a trouble-maker. Do you mean to tell me that this worker should make the same wages as the worker who is always helpful, willing to do anything asked to the best of his ability, and is always cheerful and a joy to work with? Get real. I've been in the position where a co-worker got exactly the same raise as I did, but had less than half the productivity. Unions are about creating a privileged class; union bosses. The union bosses are the only ones who benefit from a union. Show me where the unions helped airline pilots, mechanics, and flight crew at Eastern Airlines. Oh, wait, the airline went bankrupt because of the union. Over 18,000 people lost jobs. And the unions very nearly did just as good a job at Delta!! They would have done just as good a job at GM and Chrysler except that we, the taxpayers, got the shaft instead.
  5. Absolutely!!! Hollywood runs off the funds YOU give them. By seeing this movie, you couldn't do more to get the liberal's PO'd!
  6. There is no mag ban. There is a bill in the US House, but it shows no signs of getting out of committee. This is one of those bills that gets lots of liberal press, but that congress REALLY does not want to pass. By submitting and sponsoring the bill, they can tell the liberals that they are working hard for more gun control. But if it ever gets out of committee and comes to a vote, then they are at risk of having gun owners target them next election.
  7. Actually, the $10 TICS check is just supposed to cover the cost to the state of the background check. So, if they are doing fewer checks, there should be lower expenses and no loss of 'revenue' to the state. Unless, of course, they have been lying to us about what it really costs to do a TICS check.
  8. There are several excellent reasons to open carry: 1) To acclimate the public to not panicking every time they see someone carrying. Forty years ago, I used to ride my bike to Elementary School with my .22 rifle slung across my back. It stood in the corner with my jacket during school. Nobody thought anything unusual about it. I wasn't the only kid doing this. Now, we lock up kids for drawing a PICTURE of a gun in school! 2) Open carry stops criminals. There have been cases of people open carrying in GA, VA, TX, and other states where the criminals saw people carrying and decided to NOT rob the place. 3) Why should I have to hide my firearm just to go into the gas station or store on the way to or from the range or hunting? I don't normally carry a 6" barrel revolver concealed, and I'm more likely to be arrested if someone sees me taking my belt off in the parking lot in order to get the holster off! 4) As long as a person is not causing harm, coercing, or defrauding others, it really is none of your business. And if you think that someone peacefully carrying a revolver in Walmart is scary, you have some issues of your own to deal with. 5) Lastly, it is my right as a law-abiding citizen of TN to carry any handgun as the law allows. It is my DUTY as a citizen of TN to assist others who may be in danger. And at my age, I'm not going up against someone committing violence without a weapon of my own.

    Snubbies..

I like my old Colt Agent. I wish someone today would produce a high-quality small 6-shot .38 revolver without all the PC crap.
  10. Applebees is trying to be a fence-sitter. By making the signage inconspicuous and not to legal standards, they think they are appeasing gun owners, but if a gun control freak asks, they can point to the sign and say they DO forbid firearms. I won't go there. A waffler is worse than an opponent. At least you know where the opponent stands. The waffler will stab you in the back at the worst possible moment.

    AR-15 barrell gap

Unlike many firearms, the headspace on an AR15 is not really affected by barrel fit. Since the barrel extension where the bolt locks up is a permanent part of the barrel, the barrel nut only serves to hold things together. That's also why the upper and lower receiver can be made of lightweight aluminum alloy. Neither one is subjected to the stresses of containing the firing pressures.

    CZ 75 compact

My wife stole my CZ-75 Compact (NOT a PCR or P-01). I had to get another. I have yet to buy a CZ product I didn't love. The quality and design far surpass anyone else at that price point.
  13. So far, he is my favorite contender for President in '12. Showing up in Wisconsin yesterday was brilliant!! Excellent speaker and has a clear idea of political realities as well as foreign and domestic policy issues. The only fear is that the Republican establishment doesn't like him since he didn't come up the Republican ranks and is won't be controlled by the Party elite. All the more reason for MY support, though!
  14. First produced in 1988. None came to the US until 1990. There are NO legally transferable Glock 18s in the US. The only way to have one is to 1) be a law enforcement agency, or 2) a NFA dealer with a demonstration request from #1, or 3) a NFA manufacturer and make your own from a Glock 17.
  15. After comparing all the competitors, we bought my mother a Kindle. The Nook is OK, but the Kindle is easier to use, has a better screen, and has more books available to it. Also, you can synchronize your books across many different devices, not just the Kindle reader device. For $139, it's hard to beat!
  16. Social Security and Medicare are not good analogies. The reason is that what is deducted from you paycheck is not an 'insurance premium'. It is a tax on your wages. Everyone pays the taxes regardless of whether they will ever be eligible for the benefits. If you want to receive Social Security or Medicare benefits, you have to apply for them separately. They are not automatic, and Congress can change the rules at any time with regard to who is eligible and what benefits can be received. You can also choose not to apply for Social Security or Medicare benefits. ObamaCare is not a tax. You will pay actual premiums, and receive a 'policy' like any other form of insurance. The difference is that right now, you can choose how much health insurance you want, and what kind. For most of my life, I carried only 'major medical'. I was very healthy, and really only needed insurance for a major problem. This was very inexpensive. Under ObamaCare, nobody will have this option. It is a 'One Size Fits All' solution like most other government programs. as such, it will be very inefficient, liable for abuse, and cost several times more than we are being told. Government has the authority to tax you for healthcare. But ObamaCare is NOT a tax. If it was, it would be Constitutional. That is the argument that the feds are trying to use in court. The problem is that the actual LAW states it isn't a 'tax', but a 'premium'. and the constitution does not grant government the authority to force individuals to 'buy' something.
  17. In the early 1980's, I found several loaded BAR mags in a rotted sandbag at Ft Hood, TX while digging a fighting position. Later, I had a friend of mine with a BAR unload these at the range. All worked perfectly. Those mags had been out there at least 30 years, probably 40 or so. It is not how long a spring is compressed that wears them out. It's how many 'cycles' of compression they have had.
  18. Hmmm, this sounds a little fishy. If that were true, why would faster burning powders yield higher pressure than a slower burning powder using the exact same barrel/bullet combination? It seems to me that since burning powder has a sharp pressure peak just as the bullet starts moving, that reducing the friction would allow that peak to spread further down the barrel, leading to higher velocities. This works exactly the same as why friction-reducing rings in your car's engine leads to higher peak HP and better fuel economy.
  19. I have yet to find a compact .45 that I like better than my antique Star PD. Light, slim, compact, and reliable, it is my favorite carry weapon. for a while, recoil buffers were hard to find, but they are now easy and inexpensive to acquire. I change mine every 500rds in order to prevent frame wear. Until CZ makes a single-column, compact .45, I'll stick with the Star. I've also got a Firestar in .45 which is smaller and thinner than the PD, but it is very heavy for it's size and a bit unpleasant to fire.
  20. I've seen it happen in person exactly once in the past 34 years. Reloads with deep seated primer.
  21. Actually, Sudafed is NOT a key ingredient in meth. It is a key ingredient in one of the easiest and cheapest methods used to illegally manufacture meth. There are other methods of illicit manufacture that do not utilize commercial cold remedies. All of the processes used to manufacture meth are potentially hazardous and involve dangerous substances. The latest statistics I have seen has shown no change in the price or availability of street meth as a result of the restrictions on cold remedy sales. And according to the 2006 study, only 20% of US illegal meth comes from domestic production. the other 80% is smuggled in from Mexico and other countries. So, I fail to see how keeping normal people from buying 37 cold pills has any effect whatsoever on the illegal trade, manufacture, or use of meth. I had a cousin who was destroyed by meth use. So I am intimately aware of how destructive those addicts can be to themselves and anyone around them. But I fail to see how making it illegal has had any positive effect on reducing it's use or manufacture. I believe that the money could be much better used on treatment. Those in favor of keeping drugs illegal often make the point that if they were legal, we would see a huge explosion in their use. This is in opposition to the facts and reason. Illegal drug use INCREASES when the drugs are made illegal. The reasons should be obvious. When a drug can be bought without restriction, you don't find pushers in the schools putting pressure on your kids to take them, or slipping it to them to get them hooked and increase their customer base. Prior to 1913, there were no drug restrictions in the US. Drug addiction rates were actually slightly lower than they are today. A perfect example is what happened during Prohibition. Per person alcohol usage rates went UP. After the repeal of Prohibition, alcohols usage dropped to below it's previous levels. And so did the crime, corruption, and other ill effects of illegal alcohol.

    AR parts question

I built a M4-gery on a M1 Sales kit and a Century receiver about six years ago. It has been reliable and accurate. Their prices are comparable to other job-lot dealers like J&T, M&A, etc. My bolt, carrier and barrel have NSNs on them, so they are mil-spec.
  23. While not perfect, this bill DOES seem like an improvement and simplification of our current carry laws.
  24. I have no experience with Red Jacket. I have a GemTech Outback which is small, light, and works very well on both rifles and pistols, including my Walther P22. In TN, we have mandatory sheriff sign-offs for the Form4 transfer. Why do you want a trust? It seems like unnecessary complication, expense, and paperwork.
  25. The receiver is the controlled item. An intact receiver without proper registration is a serious felony. A STEn MKII parts kit is worth about $250 in good shape.
